Australian restaurant so went for the leg of lamb. Way over cooked. Rare, medium rare, medium, all the same. Very chewy, not cleaned of tendons. Veggies over cooked as well. Tiny Bacon pieces on sliders. Very poor food.
I was planning to have dinner here but once I arrived with my friend we had our drinks and left.
Went on superbowl night great atmosphere good food good service
Had my bday drinks here amougst some attractive Aussies. Lots of great laughs with friends and the staff. Jess T was fantastic and made the experience a lot of fun. Prices are great, and everything gets brought out at the perfect time.
Great pub, great food, great service. I have had multipe nights and afternoons at this pub. The atmosphere is great, with plenty of TVs....plus a heavy hand by most bar staff is always welcomed. Good place to meet for pregame or a quiet afternoon of relaxing.
My food was pretty ordinary (fish and chips) but my daughter enjoyed the salmon she ordered. Despite booking, there was no reserved table for us and we were made to feel a little as though we were in the way. I was hoping for a great experience as it was New Years Eve and we always visit The Australian every time we are in NYC but this time the experience was pretty ordinary and disappointing. So we left early - not bothering to see in the new year there. On the positive side, our server was very friendly and very accommodating.
Really friendly. Great food. Would highly recommend.
I love meat pies, this is the only place I have seen in NYC that offers them. Sadly, the meatpie was just beef in a curst, no real flavor. The sausage roll was just meat pie filing in phyllo dough. My kids had to order three different meals until they actually had something left. The service was very friendly but it took almost two hours to service five people lunch (I guess that's similar to Australian service).
Great option for both locals and expats wanting a taste of home. Not too over the top with all things Australian, but enough to give you an understanding of what the team are doing. Great selection of food and drink covering all options.
Great Bangers & Mash. Will definitely be going back!
For a Thursday night is was very busy and loud.
Great service and even better when you are getting served by an Australian st the Australian Bar in Nyc
Great bar to relax in after a long day sightseeing. Extensive choice for both food and drinks. For starters, we had chicken wings and squid to share. Mains were steak sandwiches and fish and chips. We did have an issue with our mains however the owner sorted this immediately and certainly did not impact on our night. The portion sizes were good and the food was both tasty and reasonably priced. Added bonus was the live singer. Check out their “happy hour” and drinks offers. Well worth a visit and would certainly recommend to friends and family.
Im a mad Richmond Tigers fan & the Australian had great coverage of the Pleliminary Final between Richmond v GWS the atmosphere was electric.
Great for watching PAC-12 games in NYC. Especially Cal!
The only thing that made me unhappy was the extra charge because we had a table of 12. As they say in Australia - NOT HAPPY JAN.
Service here is always exceptional. Everyone is so friendly and pleasant. Food also is very good.
Lovely staff, lovely food! Will come back!
We had an awesome happy hour meal with drinks. Great value!
Just happen to pick up this restaurant because it was close to our hotel, and met some friends there. The crowd was loud and having a lot of fun which made it a little difficult to have a conversation at the table but we all still had a really good time.
Would definitely recommend this place for the service, the food, and the ambience.
Main reason for visiting was to watch the Leeds Rhinos v Wakefield Trinity rugby league match from the UK which the bar usually shows. Booked a table to have a meal while watching the game and the barstaff put the game on the TV by the booth we were in so it was comfortable to watch, eat and drink. The game a disappointment as Wakey lost but the food, drink and service from great friendly people was wonderful and I'll go back again whether to watch a game or just have a great time in a friendly place
Solid option for Aussie food and beer, as well as ample access to screens for Rugby, Aussie Football and other sports.
One of the few places in NYC that you can eat, drink and watch Australian Football (AFL) and also Rugby games
It's always a great time at The Australian! Matt Astill is a King among men!
I went there to try kangaroo only to find out they were out of it. I ordered a salad and the lamb dish. They both came out at the same time. The lamb was dry and portion was small. My server never checked on me. I would have ordered another drink if she had. I had to ask someone else for my check. When I left my server was in the bar area with a group of people.
Our group had a great time. We booked for 12 people and it steadily increased to about 20 and the staff were great about it. It is never a place for a romantic dinner, it is an after work or sports bar venue. I have read reports that the food and service is poor. The food is good with some dishes and passable with other, but for what people are going for it suffices. for the right occasion we never have a second thought about going back.
Strewth mate it was fair dinkum we went flat out like a lizard drinking
Went on a weeknight with an Australian friend. The decor was pleasant, with a choice of booths or free tables in the dining area. The service was great, very quick and attentive. We had calamari, lamb chops, roasted lamb, and pavlova. All dishes were outstanding. For sports enthusiast, this is a great place. Too many screens and a bit too loud for my taste as it becomes difficult to have a conversation. But then I don't care much for American football.
We went for lunch around 12:15 the week after Christmas. The restaurant wasn't busy until about 1:00. Lunch specials were $12. Great for NYC. Australian fare. Tried the kangaroo skewers as appetizer, pricey for 4 little skewers, but we can say we tried kangaroo & liked it. Burger, not on lunch special, HUGE. Aussie Meat Pies were on lunch special & were very tasty
The food is definitely Australian but is very average. We ate there twice because my husband is Australian and we thought we would support the place. We had many entrees between the 5 of us and the best we ate was the calamari. The pavlova crust was too hard. They sat our family up in the noisy bar section for dinner reservations even though we had a child who was under age. Our table was VERY sticky from an earlier group, even after we asked them to clean it. It was not our greatest NYC experience.
Poor service staff ignores you food is mediocre for the price would never go back
Food was good but the place needs a renovation. Scratched up tables and chairs. The booths are all torn up and need replacement.
It was my second visit in NYC and i enjoy to go there every time !! One of the best nachos i've ever had. Nice pub atmosphere.
Was intrigued by Aussies and kangaroo...
Kangaroo was just OK. Traditional meat pies were also just OK; small portions.
Salad, salmon, and steak sandwich looked better.
Service was spotty - server changed mid-way through out meal without notice
Not terrible, but probably wouldn't go back.
LOUD!!!! Perhaps it is unfair to be too critical of the establishment & focus on directing the comments towards the patrons!!!! Loud!! Rude!!! Inconsiderate of others!!! I would like to blame it on the age of those just barely being of age to drink but that would not be entirely true. Our server was very sweet & I had no expectation of the food but it was respectfully passable. There are way too many other places to eat in our great city that provide that type of food at a reasonable price with a superior environment!!! Ps upon arrival the snippy hostess reprimanded me for only reserving a table for 2 when we are a party of 3. I double checked my confirmation & it was for 3.........perhaps math is not a strength????
Food was OK but nothing to write home about--kangaroo kebabs were interesting, roast lamb was stringy and tasteless. Good tap selection of Australian beers.
Was a bit disappointed. The service was quite slow and the food just OK.
Great bangers and mash. Very friendly service. Good bar crowd with great selection of sports to watch.
The food was ok.
Wouldn't go back again. I enjoy the meat pies at Pie Face here in the city. As far as the lamb is concerned...I roast lamb much better and more tasty and less dry.
Server was a bit abrupt because it was busy. Average food, average everything.
Just ok bar food and service. portions were small.
