Ashby Inn has great food and service. It is on the expensive side, but worth the price.

Impeccable wait staff and food presentation. Food courses were just right size and each course was perfectly prepared for us. Chef and server were attentive to my wife's dietary allergy and she was well pleased with her abundant choices. "Well done."

It was a rainy day so we sat inside for brunch. Always made to feel welcome here. I was happy with a split of Hillenger brut rose while we enjoyed the warm bread & honey-butter sprinkled with sea salt. When we read the menu & were intrigued by the smoked olive oil ingredient, the chef sent over a sample & more bread. We both loved our appetizers. I had the endive salad while hubby tried the Black Forest ham dish. His entrée was Shrimp & Grits (a big hit) & I chose Fish & Chips w/ smashed peas. I wish the chef would add more herbs (especially mint) to the peas for a more complex flavor. Great tartar sauce & crispy chips. My dessert was a deconstructed Crème Brulee called "Burnt Cream". Beautiful as well as delicious. Barry did not enjoy his Caramel & Chocolate Cremeaux as much. As if the chef read his mind, he sent over a bowl of Sticky Toffee Pudding ala mode. Very sweet & yummy. It sealed our resolve to skip dinner that night! We love their Cappuccino w/ rock candy on a stick (which I always take home for the grand kids). Can't wait for Spring so that we can have a table on the patio overlooking the garden. But it was lovely to sit in the parlor in front of a fire.

We've been going to the Ashby Inn for years to celebrate special occasions. This year the service was exceptional but the food did not hold up to what we were used to plus the costs have increased.

I've been a few times now to the Ashby Inn, and each time the food has been wonderful. Definitely worth the drive out to Paris, VA!

We visited the Ashby Inn 10 - 15 years ago. It was impressive then, but is still better now.

Note: No rating is given for noise level, because there were only 2 other diners on the evening we were there. We do not like a noisy place, so the level was perfect for us.

Magnificent! We had the Vegetarian tasting menu. It i perhaps the most notable menu in the greater Washington DC area, and even further, and that includes even some of the more famous 'country' inns in the Virginia horse country. Truely world class. For this menu and presentation, one could and should travel far. And the option to stay the night, at a reasonable cost, after taking the superb matched wine flight, makes this an even more compelling candidate for consideration as the finest dining experience. (Certainly this is the case for the vegetarian, I heard great things about the 'regular' tasting menu, but we did not partake.)

We had a date on a Thursday night at the Ashby and were blown away by the experience. I am vegan and my boyfriend is vegetarian. We let the restaurant know ahead of time and they went above and beyond to cater to us! The manager, Carlos, made sure to talk to us about our dietary restrictions and was very accommodating so we chose to try the tasting menu. Every single dish was incredible. Chef Tom absolutely conveys his skill and love of food in every plate. All of the components on each dish were creative and complimented each other wonderfully. Not a single detail was overlooked. Even our dessert course was made especially for us- blood orange “custard” with cranberry sorbet. Our server, Nolan, was world-class and extremely professional; and the sommelier, Stuart, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly! This was truly extraordinary and we are so grateful for the experience.

I had dinner last night at the Ashby Inn. It was AMAZING. I actually think I should say that I “experienced” dinner at the Ashby Inn since it was so much more than eating great food. From the moment the first course arrived I knew I was in for a treat. Every plate was a work of art and our knowledgeable server carefully introduced us to each one. By the time she had finished, my fork was trembling with anticipation, and I was too. The lovely and cozy atmosphere on a winter’s night and the smooth professionalism of the staff just added to the perfection. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I was clearly on the receiving end of a coordinated masterpiece, from the artistry of the chef and the care of the sommelier to the beautifully synchronized arrival and departure of the plates! I’ll be back.

I was hesitant to book on Christmas Eve. We ate there many years ago and it was great. New owners apparently have kept things going. It was a nice evening with attentive service, we’ll prepared and presented dishes, albeit small proportions.

Quality not quantity - which is just what I like. Spare me the large portions of mediocre tasting dishes. Give me something I can’t make at home please.

Charming accommodations, rich with historic features. Out of the way but a great place for a special dinning experience.

An intimate inn set in a lovely village with an adjacent Apothecary worth visiting.
Service was way beyond expectation. The 4 of us were served simultaneously by 4 servers in a move that seemed choreographed. The menu was very local and creative and included items seldom found . Everyone praised their meal and wanted a taste of what each of us had ordered.

The Ashby Inn was so quaint and comfortable while still offering luxury product in a country setting. My date and I had a lovely brunch with delightful wine and a delicious meal. The entire staff was gracious and knowledgeable. Our waiter Rory went above and beyond his duties to make us feel welcome and special. The extensive wine list was impressive and the sommelier extremely helpful.
The Chef's food was flavorful, seasonal and delectable! Can't wait to make it back for another visit!

Location is 45 miles from DC but a world away. A lovely old inn in a breathtakingly beautiful valley. Food was delicious. Creative twists on traditional dishes that were seasonally appropriate. Fixed price lunch was well worth the $75 per person. Service was a bit confused (twice dishes for our table were brought to the neighboring table) and our Russian server was a bit abrupt, but may have been a language issue. Overall highly recommend and will return.

Overall our dinner was extremely disappointing as we were celebrating a birthday. A dinner for three, with one glass of wine, one cocktail and one beer cost more than $350 - and my wife hardly ate a bite, it was so bad. Even the bread wasn't appropriate for dinner and may have been leftover from breakfast (one type was sweet with cream filling; the other however was stale and tasted unsalted). Our veal dish was one of these deconstructed dishes with bites scattered around a large platter - and it was stone cold by the time we received it (we surmised because it took so long to "arrange"). The accompanying garnishes for the veal of apple and vegetable amounted to a bite of each. A fish appetizer was icy and tasted very "fishy". Incredibly disappointing in any context but especially for the price! We will never return nor recommend it. Beware.

We opted for the 2 course meal, mushroom salad and veal strip for me, Red Drum for companion. Wine suggestion merited an extra bottle for the cellar. Service and quality of food outstanding, looking forward to next Date Night.

My wife and I dined at the Ashby Inn for our 29th wedding anniversary. We really had fun. Great and interesting food, great service. A bit of a food adventure. They bring out canapes, amuse bouches, palette cleansers, and the like, which adds to the fun and interest. It's got some of the same style and approach as the Inn at Little Washington.

One or two items may have suffered from being a little chilled, i.e. prepped early and kept chilled. Over chilling can mute flavors. The pork terrine was really tasty and well served, but a little dense. Maybe terrines are normally, I don't have a lot of terrine experience.

First off, great restaurant and always a pleasure to dine. Lovely place, nice service and creative dishes that are indeed fit for foodies.
Couple of recent wrinkles:
1. The newest menu begins at a two course $60 prix fixe. There are no small plate or app options outside this minimum. For someone who is a very light eater, this is a bit of an issue.
2. We made early reservations and arrived to an empty restaurant. Rather than being seated, we were told that they were getting ready for a few very large groups and would we mind waiting in the bar area? Not a problem, but we soon realized this was being suggested for every table. There were no large parties. I don't mind the desire to drive up bar revenue but I do mind dishonesty.
3. I have a very severe nut allergy and was pleased that my allergy profile is on record. Our server greeted us to review and make well informed suggestions . Super! I reiterated that my most severe reaction would come with a hazelnut; prolific on the menu. She double checked with the chef and I happily chose one of the entrees recommended.
It arrived with tiny swirls of cream, not identified by the servers explanation of the presentation.
with further questioning our server dashed back to the kitchen to confirm it was indeed hazelnut. My oh my.
I was not comfortable eating the replacement plate, fearing the expensive contaminated protein might have been replated. My husband enjoyed two dinners.
We likely won't return. The care and attention is all fabulous, the food is creative and beautifully plated but just too complex for someone with a nut allergy. Unfortunately, there are no simple options on the menu.
Can't recommend this lovely restaurant for those with allergies.

Great dining experience! The staff was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The food was unique, creative and full of flavor. We were delighted to squeeze in a drive to Ashby Inn in the country before the Fall color faded. An al fresco brunch was made possible with the addition of space heaters & plastic sides on the patio. As always, we were warmly greeted by staff & soon I was sipping my brut rose as we enjoyed the garden from our corner table. Warm bread with sweet butter sprinkled with sea salt, then appetizers: smoked trout rillettes were smaller than anticipated but the butternut squash soup presentation was perfect. Now if the Apothecary would start selling the gorgeous pottery bowls! Barry chose the pork sandwich while I claimed the flank steak. I asked for it to be prepared medium rare. Our very nice waitress informed us that it was always cooked to medium. (the surprise was to get the dish entirely RARE!). We both had the chocolate mousse dome & cappuccinos. A lovely way to start our weekend!
