From what we’d heard about the place, we expected something very special. Something extraordinary is what we had. Sweet, funny, warm server took good care of us, but didn’t hover overmuch. Terrific appetizer of a marinated mushroom variety with goat cheese on toast. We are foodies. My wife and kids and I spend a lot of time thinking about, and preparing good food. The Artist’s Palate will quickly put you in your place if you think you’re hot stuff in the kitchen. These guys know food and especially the subtleties that make great food great.
My pork tenderloin was the best I’ve ever had. My wife said the same of her swordfish over sepia-colored rice. My 18-year old son thought his scallops the best he’d ever had, but, “What, just three?”, was his only negative. You cannot give an athletic teenager his favorite seafood in such a small serving. But, it’s a trendy place and smaller servings are the order of the day.
The wine list was excellent. The gin and tonic opener was made by a strong hand...perfect. Dessert was only excellent. The place is simple in appearance, with clean contemporary lines, crisp waiters, friendly. Damn, I wish it weren’t three hours from home.
Fun, semi-casual place to dine. Good food, good drinks.
We had a large party of 14 and our table was set up beautifully in the center of the restaurant. All of the dishes were masterfully prepared and delicious. I had scallops with sweet potato purée with brussel sprouts, there is a large beer and wine selection. Very supportive and attentive staff. Thank You Artist Palette for treating our party so well!
Server Jackie is one of the best I have ever experienced!
Great menu, service, drinks and food! My favorite restaurant in Hudson Valley!
The salmon was the best I ever had. Combined with the creamed potatoes and perfectly steamed spinach, this dish was beyond delicious!
The Artist's Palate has upped their game from excellent to perfect. From welcome through dessert, the staff were attentive, prompt but not overweening. Drinks and wine were fairly priced and well made. We tasted each others appetizers of beet salad with avocado and potato/buttermilk soup. Each was a new and refreshing change and delicious. we then tasted each others main course of perfectly cooked scallops and swordfish. We could not finish dessert, which we took home for enjoyment later. Always a favorite, we now rank the AP the best in the Hudson Valley-Rockland to Rhinebeck division.
Good food and very nice ambiance. Very much liked the kale salad and Apple fritters.
Score another win for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week! Rarely do we travel an hour to dine but this one sounded well worth it and we were not disappointed. It's a sort of mixed neighborhood in downtown Poughkeepsie but obviously one that's rapidly being gentrified. Front of restaurant is undistinguished but once you open the door you're in for a visual treat. The atmosphere is casual elegance at its best with exposed brick (accented by a very clever band of backlit unframed mirrors), cozy tables and a well-stocked bar. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive and very knowledgable about the menu. We began with buttermilk potato soup for me and kale salad for my wife and we both heralded them as the best we've ever had (these alone will be enough to bring us back). For an entree I had the Skip To My Roo, lovely medallions of kangaroo that were cooked perfectly and were tender and delicious, and my wife had the equally delicious salmon. For dessert we had the apple fritters and chocolate mousse and both were outstanding. We'll definitely be back, probably for the 6-course chef's selection so many have praised.
Our server, Michael, was fantastic! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the wine list and how the food was prepared. As a bonus, he was able to tell us quite a bit about a local artist that was showing a piece at the restaurant. Very enjoyable!
Overall a great experience. Food was fantastic and the service was very good. I had the kangaroo entrée, a special for restaurant week, and it was out of this world !
The cauliflower was to die for, and I'm usually not a fan. Everything was delicious, the lobster mac and cheese is our family favorite.
Artist Palate provided first class food and service. Preparation, presentation and quality was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or just a nice meal out. Enjoy
Had dinner during restaurant week. The beet salad was delicious—nicely pickled and not overly dressed. Scallops were cooked right, brown on the outside. They sat on a bed of puréed sweet potato, crispy Brussels sprouts and bacon. Ate every bit. Waiter was informative and available. A lovely evening.
This was our third time at Artist's Palate and the food as always was excellent. Service was great - our waiter made sure we had what we needed and checked on us throughout the meal. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and the art displayed on the walls adds to the view and conversation. Portions could be a little more generous, but overall it is a great experience. I highly recommend Artist's Palate!
Micheal was very attentive and gave us great recommendations. The food was great and beautifully presented.
Server was very attentive and great, it really made our dining experience better.
Visited on a slow, snowy evening. Attentive, friendly, enthusiastic staff. Great charcuterie platter - one of the best I've had. Interesting preparations of meals (one scallops, one steak) - both were great. Will definitely be returning.
Our server Oshan was gracious and the food excellent as usual. We went for a Valentine’s Day dinner and had a lovely pre fixe. my only qualm is that two parties of two people who were evidently familiar to the staff arrived after us and were seated before us, despite the fact that we arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation. It seemed pretty unprofessional. Other than that, the food was great.
I came here with my husband and two friends. Everyone seemed happy with their main course, except me. I ordered scallops; $30 for 3 scallops, but they were huge. They were not, however flavorful the way thirty dollar scallops should be. Fresh scallops have a sweetness, and a taste of the sea. These were just salty. I thought 3 would not be enough, but I didn't finish them. They were on a bed of very delicious shredded and roasted brussels sprouts, but that was all atop sweet potato puree, which seemed odd. I didn't love my scallops and sprouts atop a layer of moosh. My friend disliked her dessert (a s'mores inspired thing); mine was so-so (apple fritters that were mostly dough.) My husband ordered a fish dish (I can't recall what kind of fish) and he liked it very much, but it came with NO sides, which seems awfully stingy. It was just...fish.
The space is open and attractive. The server was very nice and attentive. But I wouldn't come back for the food.
Excellent service from our waiter, Mike, and the food was outrageous!
This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable. Our waiter, Greg, was just a delight and very helpful in deciding what to order. I had the chicken dish and there was so much, I couldn’t eat it all, very decent size portions. It is definitely casual but elegant dining. I live an hour away, but would definitely make the trip back soon.
It was fantastic. Nice and cozy. Quite. Great service and atmosphere.
I’ve been here a few times and every time I go, I think about the experience for days after, and wish I could do it all over again from beginning to end. Every time I go it’s the best meal I’ve ever had, and the service and the kind and generous way the whole staff treats their customers is exceptional. Love this place!
Spectacular food and cocktails. The kitchen serves top tier food, expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. The bartender is first rate and can assist with drink suggestions. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
Friendly, well designed restaurant with innovative, delicious cuisine with a local flavor.
service was great.
The food, almost all of it was excessively salty!, need to lay off the salt shaker!
otherwise lovely.
Creative preparation of all courses. Good service and ambiance! Outstanding restaurant
We had a good dinner in this attractive, inviting restaurant. Our server explained menu items carefully, answered our questions and seemed genuinely interested in our thoughts on the food. Our chacuterie plate was delicious, as was my branzino. Nice dinner in a lovely spot!
Best meal I’ve had in ages. Wish it were closer. Loved the cider mussels, duck breast (pictured), pork and pumpkin stew, scallops, mushroom risotto, salads.
New chef and new menu! Breaded chicken wings with Buttermilk dipping sauce and kale salad with pistachio dressing were great. Pork and pumpkin stew was also a great surprise. Something different and completely wonderful-spicy, crunchy pipitos, and hearty. We will be back!
We went as a gift from some friends. We were very impressed with the courteous service, creative menu, and high quality food. The ambiance was very comfortable and relaxed.
Everything was perfect.
Very good food. Very creative presentations. Service was friendly and on-point. Noise gets to be a bit much, but I could still converse with my table. It was very warm in the restaurant, almost too warm. I would go back. Absolutely.
We’ve been to The Artist’s Palate several times for dinner. The food, wine, and service is always excellent! We love to support local business and this is one of our favorite. We will definitely be back.
We had a party of 8 celebrating 3 birthdays. I emailed ahead, called the night before and thirdly, asked the waitress for candles in our dessert. Despite all the planning, it didn't happen, so that was the disappointment of the night. The food was good though.
The service was great. For appetizer we had the mussels - absolutely the best I have ever tasted. Then for entrees The scallops were cooked to perfection and the chicken was very flavorful. Will definitely go back again!
Did not disappoint. Sophisticated menu, delicious vegetarian option, attentive device, and delicious wine pairing.
The Artist Palate is just amazing. You have great service and the most incredible preparation of food you have ever had. I wanted to marry the chefs!
Put more wine in the glass. Too expensive. Food good. Waiter good.
