The Arrogant Butcher Ratings and Reviews
I ordered a hamburger and it was okay. Nothing special. Someone else ordered a Chinese chicken salad and they said it was really good. I will have to try something else next time. I will definitely go back and try it but I didn't think the hamburger was that great. When you only have an hour lunch, the service is kind of slow.
Great place that I keep going back to. This is the first time I make a reservation in advance and it was for 6pm. Place wasn't packed so not sure why they wanted to seat me all the way in the back when there was plenty of open tables in the main dining area.
What a great dining experience. We started with the bread appetizer. My wife loved the goat cheese. I had the cheddar. Both wonderful. My wife had the beet salad, one of the best she's ever had anywhere. I had the seafood special. Shrimp, scallops, sea bass, mussels, in a scrumptious red sauce. Off the chart good. We finished up sharing a caramel pudding. After taking off the ample whip cream it was sooooo good. Must try. Our waiter was attentive but not over overbearing. Would definitely recommend to all!!
Don't be put off by the three stars. This is a GOOD restaurant. I think Fox restaurants, as a whole, does a good job. I'm just not "wowed." We love going to Culinary Dropout in Tempe for lunch. We've been to North Italia in Scottsdale....it was along the same lines as Arrogant Butcher. Service at all of the restaurants has been impeccable. But I'm just not amazed by the food. At AB we had the crispy shrimp appetizer. Just a bowl of fried shrimp. We both had the basic chopped dinner salad, and it's exactly that. A bowl of mixed greens that you can buy at the grocery store with some dressing. I had the grilled ribeye. Good. Nothing to write home about. Some of the beans in the goulash that it's served with were still a bit hard. Hubs had the Saturday night prime rib special. It was just ok, too. Great ambiance, server was great, food was just alright. Definitely not worth the $108 for a tanq and tonic, some basic fried shrimp, two basic salads, and a couple pieces of meat.
My hubby and I went for dinner. Pretzel and Fondue appetizer was good although too much bread to have before a meal and it is a large portion. I suggest having it alongside a few beers if not having dinner. The fondue however, was a great dip for the fries that came with my burger. It was a bit overdone but I am not as persnikity as some folks so I enjoyed it anyway.
This was our first visit and we loved it. Close to downtown entertainment and easy in and out parking, in the area. Genette, our waitress, made very good suggestions and we tried them all. Excellent dishes and LOVED the oysters. Great spot in downtown Phoenix!
Looking over the drink menu, I noticed right off that ingredients are from the uber top-shelf. The Angel's Envy Old Fashioned, and Casamigos Blanco caught my eye right away! This care in spirit selection set it apart. The butcher block appetizer was very inventive and excellent. Most of us had the meatloaf special and although Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans may sound simple, each was perfect.
My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided on Arrogant Butcher. We had heard good things, and they were all true. Wonderful food, the dessert we chose was the salted caramel pudding...amazing!!!! Would go back and would recommend.
We had a pregame meal here on a Monday night and won't be back. The restaurant was very noisy, the waiter never came back after delivering our food to check on us and the food was not good. We tried the famous pretzels and cheese-boring cheese that congealed because the heating candle went out (note absent waiter) and the pretzels were dense and rather flavorless. The artichoke hummus was decent (was that dominant flavor cumin?)but the pita seemed undercooked-it needed to be grilled or toasted for some oompf. The zucchini fritters were crispy on the outside but seemed pasty in the center. I could go on but that is all I care to recall. At least the drinks were good. This was my third and last visit here.
A coworker ate here the night prior, and she talked about the bad service. The drinks are good, the pretzel bites with fondue is great for the price, but the service is so bad and disjointed that it doesn't matter.
Water has to be asked for it seems, because after 15 minutes of your waiter coming by and taking your order he still doesn't produce water. There wasn't a huge incident, it was just little things that restaurants should be on top of. For example, when the plates were brought out for appetizers, they were super wet. Another server saw this and switched them out for us, not our own server. Also, the check was dropped off with no pen (crazy) and 10 minutes trying to get him to come over (or anyone) didn't pan out.
Happy Hour would be best, or a big group . Also the pretzels are super good, so don't miss that.
I love the Arrogant Butcher and try to eat here every time I'm in Phoenix. I love their charcuterie selections, the pretzels and their burger. This time I had the Wedge with Kalbi and it was amazing. So many flavors andnso satisfying. Definitely shareable. If ur visiting Downtown Phoenix stop in here for a great meal.
We gave this place a try based on reviews and the description. It was disappointing to say the least. Too casual a place for a date night, but live and learn. What wasn't OK was the nonexistent servers, insanely loud noise level (to the point you had to shout across the table for the other person to hear you) and only average food. Drinks were good, but that can't carry a restaurant.
Food was fantastic. Next time we go with a bigger party to enjoy the appetizer platters that is for larger groups to share. We had the House pretzel and cheese fondue. Wish we had more people to share as we couldn't stop eating and almost filled up on the appetizer. I had the Daily special of Cioppino. Perfect. My wife had the Fillet. I finished it when she couldn't. It melted in my mouth. The flavor was awesome to. Excellent meal. We will be back.
