The American Sector @ The National WWII Museum
Local Gulf Shrimp, Stewed Tomatoes, Fire Roasted Trinity, Jazzmen Rice
We have been there before & enjoyed the food and had no trouble with service. Maybe the chef was having a bad day.
We took some friends there who had never been & it was many different things that caused me to give it a low rating.
Our food came out cold, my friend didn't get his complete order, one of his sides was cold & you could tell it was just frozen potato cubes.
We where very grateful to the manager he compted our food & offered dessert.
My son met me at the restaurant for lunch and to celebrate his 21st birthday. We decided to eat at the bar which turned out nice because the bartenders went out of their way to make it special. My cocktails were delicious and the burgers we had were cooked perfectly. This is definitely a great addition to an already outstanding attraction in a city full of things to do.
Stopped for a quick bite . Didn’t want to venture too far into downtown to avoid traffic. Great spot . Fried shrimp are yummy.
Service was extremely slow
The place is beautiful, had brunch while staying at the new Higgins hotel. The food was very good, our server very attentive. Would absolutely eat here again. We had the biscuits and gravy as well as the crawfish eggs Benedict. Wish both were a little hotter in temperature but overall a great dining experience. The museum is NOT to be missed.
What a wonderful place to take a break from touring the museum and have a very nice, relaxing lunch. All of our food was fresh and flavorful, and very reasonably priced. The service was excellent.
I don’t normally seek out restaurants within museums but everything I read about this place said check it out and I’m glad we did. We had the Country Supper w/ wings and an Oyster Po Boy. Both very good. Also recommend their house special Victory Garden Bloody Mary. Tasty with just the right kick. A great place to take an hour’s break while visiting the WWII Museum.
I met a friend for brunch and we were very happy with the brunch menu and the lunch menu. We also really liked the choice of three juices with the bottomless mimosas. My husband and I are already planning our next brunch for this weekend.
Great restaurant while visiting the WW II museum. Our waiter was great!
Great service. The happy hour menu is yummy!
A decent lunch that allowed us to stay on site to enjoy the museum
We ordered salads for lunch & they were delicious. Dessert was cream brûlée with fruit compote & it was great. A fun place with great food.
I thought the food was not on par with what we, as New Orleanians, have grown accustomed to. For example, chips came with my entree and they looked like the crumbs out of the very bottom of the bag. The bread they used to make my sandwich was very stale.
Very nice experience, wait staff
Very polite and attentive. Food delicious and attractive. Good value for your money.
The food was really good, the service was perfect, you must go to this museum it is awesome.
Service was not good. We waited 90 minutes for our food. We were a party of 6, 2 adults and 4 kids and we were charged a high gratuity. Server never came around. Why should she? She gets an automatic tip. Also it was very expensive.
Great time and shrimp and grits.
Good food and service, great setting. What you would expect with one of the nation's premier museums.
Need to tone down the pepper and sauces. Louisiana food should be spicy hot...not just pepper heat. Grilled redfish (an awesome fish) had ton of sauce as did the shrimp Po-Boy, neither described like that in the menu.
I would for drinks and snacks but some of the food is a little over priced for what your getting.
The American Sector was, first of all, very convenient if you’re visiting the museum. Honestly, I did not expect the food to be as good as it was. The selections were adequate and had something for most taste buds. Sunday brunch has bottomless mimosas. The wait staff were very friendly. There was not a long wait to receive your food. My party arrived a little early for lunch and there was not a crowd, but reservations are recommended because the place filled up very quickly around noon and there seemed to be a wait as we were leaving. All in all, a great place to eat when you visit the museum.
Food and service was excellent! Everyone enjoyed it. Will was great!
It has great food and very attentive service when it was not very busy It’s a great place to have a few drinks and high quality food in the CBD close to the arts district
The server was excellent. I ordered a cheeseburger which was over cooked and dry. The French fries were good, however. I have heard from locals that the food at the American sector is not good and they were right.
First time visiting NOLA and the museum. Excellent food and service and highly recommend this restaurant. It was nice to have a visit from the manager to come to speak with us
Haven't been for a few years and I remember the food being much better. Not sure what happened, but at a table of 7 literally no one was impressed by the food. That said, nothing was BAD. Service was good, environment was fine.
What happened to John Besh? The restaurant is not the same without him. It has gone from excellent to fair. What a disappointment.
Wow- This is not just a museum cafe for a quick burger! They have a comprehensive menu with everything from gumbo and salads to wings/ burgers/ nachos to fine meals with hanger steak and shrimp and grits. My neighbor had debris (roast beef) over fries that looked yummy but I had grilled redfish with sautéed squash, zucchini and spinach with a huge, succulent piece of fish for $20. Nice ambiance, large bar area for dining too, and table service. Unfortunately service at the bar was terrible. This was 3:00pm, not busy, plenty of wait staff. Two ladies next to me left after waiting an unacceptably long time to get water and then still waiting for their order to be taken. My beverage was empty a long time and I finally had to ask for a refill. Too bad to put a damper on the delicious food from the kitchen.
If dining at prime lunch hours or weekends, use Open Table and make a reservation. Yum!!!
It was a fantastic experience! We will definitely return!
We ate here after a day at the World War II Museum. It was convenient and not crowded. It looks like they do a pretty good business at lunch, but the museum closes at 5 and dinner is pretty quiet. They have happy hour specials from 4-6:30. We ordered a couple of small bites, but someone came out a bit later and told us they were unable to do one of them. We ordered main dishes—oyster po boy (good-sized and tasty) and shrimp/grits (first order was not hot so sent back...second order arrived as hubby was finishing his po boy, and was ok but not great). Had a side salad which was small and a little wilted but ok, and a couple of glasses of happy-hour wine which were decent and inexpensive. Overall it was acceptable, and would probably be a good choice for a family that wants something convenient after visiting the museum. Service was so-so.
I had a great experience
Knew menu very well
Don’t think it’s as good as when it was a Besh restaurant. Menu listings are better but Food was ok at best. Waitress was very nice and tried hard but seemed overwhelmed. Wonderful location that’s hard to beat when you’re at the museum for hours!
Was very good and fast so that we could continue our visit to the WWII museum
Great food & service was efficient. Will be back for sure.
Thanks for a great experience and good food. Our tour groups enjoyed our day at the World War II Museum and were glad to get a great meal on site.
Everything was wonderful!
Who in their right mind closes at 6:30 on a Saturday in downtown NOLA?!? When I reserved a table and sat down, the hostess was like "are you really coming here to eat?" I was dumbfounded. As I waited for my friends to show up, there were some corporate looking people hanging out in the dining area and staring my direction, obviously thinking "what the heck is ths guy doing, doesn't he know it's closing time soon?" I did not feel welcomed and was very uncomfortable.
Excellent! Food was good, ambiance was good. Very enjoyable!
