Private Party Facilities:
The newly renovated American Hotel brings back the old world charm and ambiance of Freehold's long standing social centerpiece. Originally built in 1824 as a stagecoach stop, the hotel grew as did the needs of Monmouth County. But, after 180 years of making memories, the facilities were in need of a total make-over. New owner Steve Goldberg, stepped up to the plate by completing a full renovation, creating a New York style Boutique Hotel with restaurant and Banquet facilities which were described in the Asbury Park Press as a "masterpiece" and brought a new life and vibrancy to downtown Freehold.
Located in the heart of Freehold, N.J., Monmouth County's government seat, the American Hotel provides travelers and guests a charming stay in a vibrant community.

The American Hotel - Market Yard Grille Ratings and Reviews
Our reservation was towards the end of the brunch. Most foods we’re over cooked in their chafing dishes. There was no chef at the omelette station and a server had to go get one. The cold items like the shrimp, oysters, salad and dessert items were excellent. Table service was good and the staff was friendly.
Our large party was very well taken care of by the staff at The American Hotel - Market Yard Grille! Our servers were wonderful and attentive, the food was terrific, and the restaurant was very accommodating. The ambience in the fireplace room was perfect, and everyone in our party has been raving about the entire experience. Thank you so much for a special evening!
First time there, menu looked promising but lacked flavor. I had the lobster and shrimp bisque and it was just a chunky tomato soup. Entrees were basic had little flavor. Not bad but not good. Waiter was attentive but never smiled and was not engaging. All the severs were huddled by the stair near our table talking instead of working. It was strange. It’s also the place you go if you are over 60. We saw two tables leave before getting food that were younger, assume they left because it was too stuffy. Will never go back and would never recommend.
Everything was great!!!! Jameson our waiter was “AMAZING”.
He was very attentive and wasn’t pushy at all. He recommended a fabulous bottle of red wine that was middle of the road not ridiculously expensive. Most waiters/waitress push the most expensive wine.
I am new to the area (within 10 miles to restaurant) and wanted to take my family to a nice brunch for my wife's birthday. Everything was very good but what was outstanding was the service. I suggest going very hungry, there is so much good food to try for Sunday Brunch!
Had reservation at 8pm and felt rushed out of the restaurant by 9:30. Waitress had her coat on and stared at us until we payed so she could go home. Then bus boy rushed us out. This was all before 10pm. Unfortunate to be rushed out of a restaurant when it is still open so staff can go home especially when the bill with tip is $200. Not what you’d expect from a nicer restaurant.
Americana Hotel is an excellent choice for great food, ambience and service. Nicole is a wonderful waitress! Butternut squash soup was flavorful, hearty and delicious.
Loved the seafood Fra Diavalo. Great selection. Next time will try a steak though there are many great choices
We have been to this restaurant several times however this time was the worst. Service was slow at first but our server apologized many times. Food came out very slow and my husbands steak was overcooked. Server did bring him a new one. Was a disappointing meal.
The hotel has gone through an extensive renovation and is fabulous. The dining room was beautiful and we had a great meal . The menu offered a huge selection from steaks to fish to many specials. Two of us had the scallops over risotto along with spinach and was by far the best scallops we have had in a long time. Our waitress Nicole was a delight and very attentive. I can't say enough good things about our dinner . Don't think you will be disappointed.
Good food. Like the fact that you are not so closely seated to other people; the tables are spaced that you can have a private conversation without people in your business. Really enjoyed the live music. Good menu- something for everyone. Liked the free valet parking. Beautiful inside. Will definitely go back. A gem.
I went to Market yard Grille with my fiance and his parents by recommendation of a friend and it was fantastic. The red sangria was delicious, the food was amazing (I had the stuffed flounder), and our server was very attentive. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to others.
Been here several times because downtown Freehold does not have many options other than Federici's - cash only, Metropolitan cafe, usually crowded and noisy. But the service here is always hit and miss. Took a while for someone to come over asked if we wanted water. When he came back we were surprised he had not brought bread. Got our order in and good for the waiter he asked if we wanted our appetizer and salad at the same time or separately . That was done correctly. Bottom line if you can put up with inconsistent service its a good place. I wish more managers realize the service is more important than the food
Normally Market Yard is always amazing. Something was a little off this time.
I didn't want the asparagus that came with the always amazing rack of lamb. I asked if I could have broccoli instead. Server said sure.
I ordered the lamb medium rare. It came medium. The kitchen is always amazing. Did the server get it wrong or take too long to get it to me or did the kitchen make a rare mistake?
The gravy with the lamb was wonderful.
The lamb while a little over cooked was high quality and tender.
Also ordered the key lime pie ($9). The slice was tiny and it was half whipped cream. Very little actual key lime pie. Very disappointed for $9.
Bill came and the $40 dollar rack of lamb was $43? Asked the server, why? They said it was $3 to switch the broccoli and the asparagus.
They didn't mention that originally. I feel they should have.
Usually a favorite restaurant. They had an off night on a not very busy Saturday night.
Birthday celebration. Quite pricey especially based on quality of food. Food wasn't bad, just wasn't as good as other comparatively priced restaurants. Don't mind spending this type of money if blown away by my meal. I however was not. Also felt children's meal portions were especially sparse at $8.00 per meal. For example, my son's hamburger was essentially one slider sized portion. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but not sure we'd ever return. Better restaurants in this price category. Hotel does though have a nice upscale ambiance. Also has band playing on Saturday nights.
Overall, it was a terrible experience. The service was very unprofessional and slow. The food came out cold and did not taste fresh. The waiter was extremely rude and condescending. I will not be going back anytime soon nor recommending this restaurant to others.
