Our second visit to the Rye location. Such a nice place & the food was great. We have been to Canterbury also where the food was just as good. We missed out on Margate about a year ago as the restaurant was closed for the day with a gas supply problem which was a bit of a disappointment.

We have visited the Ambrette many times and have never been disappointed. The Autumn Tasting Menu on Friday was no exception.

We ate at this restaurant for our Wedding Anniversary and thought It was amazing! All the little extras inbetween courses were super and the food excellent. A warning should however be given that is you don't like hot as in curry hot food please don't order certain dishes. Also it should be noted this is not a restaurant to take children too.

The service was first class as always. The intro free drink was very nice. The starter course was excellent, we had bream. The free bite in between courses was very nice, we had that last time we were in so I think the restaurant should ring the changes there to match its competiton. The free small soup (tomato) had, as at our last visit, visible fat floating on the surface, I left it, tomato soup shouldn't have any fat in it. We both had venison that was cooked to perfection but the accompanying fennel potatoes were rather glutinous and tasteless, not sure what happened there. The beetroot accompaniment was superb. There was too much sauce on the plate and the pompadoms were not eaten. They are a detracting accompaniment to a nice dish and have no taste value. These I find too greasy as well. We learned one thing, check to see if there is a group due in. We were seated at a nice central table, there were only 4 couples in. We were looking forward to a nice ambience for a romantic dinner as it was my wife's birthday treat. However, a party of ten were seated right next to us after we had finished our first course and we could barely hear each other. It would have been better for the restaurant to have realised the implication and sat us at one of the plentiful spare tables a distance away. It spoilt the evening so we didn't have a sweet and coffee, preferring to leave. Advice to self, don't come midweek and check for groups.

Very impressed by our overall experience. The waiting staff were friendly and professional, explaining each dish and on hand whenever we needed them without being intrusive. The food was delicious. Imaginative combinations of quality ingredients, Indian spices and fragrant flavours - all beautifully presented. The meat we had was perfectly cooked, succulent and tender. Absolutely loved the complimentary extras like the welcome cocktail, little samosas, soup and the iced granita with popping candy which brought a huge smile to our faces. Refreshing and fun. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely come back.

The use of spices by the North Indian chef at Ambrette is masterly. I've seldom eaten Indian food this good, even at the best 'modern' Indian restaurants in London.

We have always enjoyed our meals at The Ambrette but the meal we had on Friday was outstanding and our friends were mightily impressed. Can't wait to go back.

It's hard to know how to describe the food here: Indian with a European influence or European with an Indian influence. Regardless, it's very very good. We had a party of four, all of whom eat Indian in London a lot, and we all felt this was up there with Tamarind, Amaya etc. Presentation wasn't the greatest, but the flavours were terrific. Spices were used delicately and imaginatively. The wine list is ok (whisky list isn't great), and the ambience is very nice - clean and modern. It was warm on the night we were there, so we would have liked some more air, but overall, it was a great night with terrific food.
