   We were rather underwhelmed by the decor at this converted pub, but the welcome was warm and friendly. The menu is refreshing and flavours interesting and not too extensive; always a good sign. We arrived just ahead of a large group so delivery of our food was a bit slow but well worth the wait. Sadly we didn't have time to test the dessert selection which sound delicious...a reason to return.

   On arrival at 6pm, with no other guests, we were shown to a small table in the bowels of the restaurant. After a little discussion we were offered alternative seating. The menu offerings read wonderfully and the reality was perfectly cooked, presented and superbly spiced. The flavours were excellent. However we did have an increasing sense of being rushed along; that was underlined when we were served a complimentary granita and literally 3 seconds later our desserts were served. Still we went for the food and that was excellent !!

   The Ambrette is as good as its reviews suggest. The restaurant is widely acclaimed in all the top food guides and it's a tight squeeze getting in past all the awards. Service is efficient, warm and knowledge. The cooking of mostly prime local ingredients with a subtle South Indian twist is truly outstanding.

   Really lovely food, attentive service, more expensive than most but perfect for that special occasion. Do have special offers on at the moment.

   The moment you walk into the restaurant you feel special. The greeting is warm and friendly. The staff are attentive but give you time to make your choices. The food was superb and the staff knowledgeable about the food on the plate. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

   I booked into The Ambrette for the set lunch on a Saturday with my parents and we all loved it. The service was excellent and there were some little extras alongside the set lunch which were unexpected and a nice touch - a welcome drink, a potato fritter to nibble on and an intermediate little cup of creamy soup. The food was very tasty and we all cleared the plate of every course. Whilst every course was amazing I think the highlight were the desserts which in some restaurants can be an after thought but NOT here - yummy. The lemon posset was voted favourite. We will definitely visit again and soon! Great value and lovely food across all courses. A rare find.

   Saturday was our anniversary, so where else would we go? The food was as good as ever, as was the service. Free glass of sparkling wine was the icing on the cake!

   My husband and I had a superb meal thanks to Dev and his team at the Ambrette. The service from all of the team was outstanding and made us feel as though we were the most important people in the restaurant.... However they did that for everyone that stepped foot in through the door. The food was absolutely wonderful and we were told exactly what was on our plate when it was served. The source of the food was explained on the menu and most seemed to be local.

    We live locally and have visited the Ambrette many times. It never disappoints. The food is always carefully prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. This time we took advantage of a special offer which ensured that, even on a Monday evening in March, the dining room was busy. One of the great things about The Ambrette is that it uses local ingredients wherever possible and also adds in unusual touches, such as sea purslane. The menu also changes regularly according the season. Great restaurant, attentive staff without being overbearing and excellent food.
