The service, food, view from the porch and overall ambiance were excellent. The waitress was attentive and responsive. The food was delicious. We tried three appetizers - the hummus, bruschetta and the nachos. The grilled pita bread and hummus were quite tasty as was the bruschetta with tomatoes, olive tapenade and shredded cheese. The nachos were simply prepared with jalapenos and cheese sauce. The entrees were all well-prepared, tasty and enjoyed by all in our party.
We had wonderful drinks and dinner entrees here, while we were in town celebrating my husband's birthday. The service was excellent. We were given the corner window, which allowed views of College Ave. and Penn State gates. It was perfect for reminiscing about the years we spent at Penn State ... many decades ago. Thank you, Allen Street Grill
Excellent service and food
Disappointing experience. Reserved table was very poor location, cramped, and next to large noisy party. Only other table offered was in back banquet room also next to a large party. The new menu is lacking and quite casual dining. Server was pleasant but we wanted more intimate setting and left. May try again after the merger with Spats but not before. Very disappointing experience after many good ones
Had a wonderful meal and highly recommend the fresh beet salad. Kip has been a server there for quite a while and knows just when to interrupt conversation to refill water glasses! Excellent service!
The Allen Street Grill has been our Valentine's Day tradition for several years now. We're never disappointed. Make sure you request to be seated in the "atrium" area.
As always our experience at the Allen Street Grill was pretty good. The food was decent, some of it was overpriced, but overall not too bad. The wine has small pours, but isn't too expensive. The biggest complaint is that as all the workers are college students, they could often be seen whispering, giggling, and flirting in the corners. It's unprofessional, but that's what you get in a college town.
We had a lovely, very attentive server. It was my daughter’s Valentine birthday and we had a lovely time.
Adam was a great and thoughtful waiter. Would love to see a Sunday brunch menu here.
My first time dining at Allen Street Grill. The dining experience started fine but we waited for 30 minutes for our food due to an issue with the pasta machine. Our server failed to alert us or offer an alternative which negatively impacted our entire meal.
Got a reservation for 4 at time we wanted via Open Table ( were surprised given all sporting events in Happy Valley). Open ravioli and seafood cavatappi were excellent as were desserts. I’ve never been disappointed at the Allen St Grill.
Service and food was great!
Sadik was a wonderful waiter and on top of things. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the menu. Great items, but could have been a bit more extensive. The portions were just ok and prices are a bit high. Don't think a family of 4-5 can eat very affordable, and the kids menu is pretty limited.
The food was wonderful! We had a great table right by the window as well. I want to let everyone know how phenomenal our waiter, Sadik was. All 3 of us commented on how exemplary the service that Sadik gave us was! He went above and beyond. We will definitely be back!
Hardly any waiting to be seated when we arrived with our reservation. Food was very good and the atmosphere could not have been better. We went to celebrate my son's graduation.
Excellent food! Had a great experience.
Was not impressed with the Allen Street Grill. They came recommended but I don't know why. The ambiance was exceptional, the service was mediocre, and the food was certainly not worth the price by far. My lamb chops were cooked to the correct temperature, but were not seared properly and the sauce tasted old, as did the mashed potatoes. My table-mates had similar experiences with creative, but overcooked deconstructed ravioli, watery chicken parmesan, and stale french fries. Perhaps it was just too busy a night for the kitchen but I expected better.
Made reservation for a corner window room table. Called the day before to confirm this, as it was a special occasion. We were seated in another room and it wasn't the same at all. The food was so average and very disappointing. Our server was good.
Love to sit on the corner and see great views of PSU. Especially at Christmas time with the lights.
The food was good but the service was fair at best. We had to wait over 15 minutes for lemon for water and another glass of water. We were given bread plates and said bread was on the way but we didn't get the bread until we asked for it about ten minutes later.
The server never came back to see if we needed a refill on the water. A friend ordered a bloody Mary and it was one of the worst she ever had; hardly any vodka and it was a brownish color, not red, as it should be.
We sat at a window table and the view, especially of the large Christmas Tree, was very nice. However, you could hardly hear the person sitting across from you because it was so loud. There was a larger table of six and they were talking loudly and the acoustics are horrible for multiple tables when people are actively speaking to one another.
The food was good and the price reasonable. I am not sure though if I would east there again when in State College. I am sure there are other places that are just as good or better. What it does have going for it is the location 'on the corner.'
We come here because of the location and view of State College. The last two times- being there my meal had to sent back. Due to it being under cooked. Then it's basically dry food. We had to remind waitress to get our alcoholic drinks. It's definitely a bummer as we only come to state college for special events. We probably won't return for dinner but will come back for lunch and drinks over at at the bar. The same bar tender seems to be there every visit. Very nice guy! Best service! I alsp feel like we keep getting the same waitress..who may be a little to comfortable working there...
Service was a little slow. We were surprised since the place was pretty empty when we got there. People arriving after us were experiencing much better service. No bread provided even though all other tables had it.
Fantastic. Took my girlfriend for our anniversary. We were seated in the corner window surrounded by holiday decorations. Very romantic. Appetizers, drinks, entrées, dessert. All amazing. Service couldn't have been better. Best date we've been on. Can't wait to go back
We stopped in for dinner before going to the hockey game. The service was excellent and the meal was outstanding. We sat on the enclosed porch and the view is very nice. We will be back very soon.
Went to have a memory filed evening night before Penn State football game. Had the best table in the house. Waiter was fabulous helping to choose entrees. Restaurant was great for handling a crowd. Food was exceptional and reasonably priced. High praise to the staff.
Requested a table on the porch in the corner...had a wonderful table overlooking the lit up Christmas tree! We had a very nice dinner.
Our family has dined at Allen Street Grill several times and typically we enjoy it very much. On this occasion, we experienced poor service and the food was not special. The restaurant was not busy on this Sunday for an early Lunch, yet our waiter showed neither an attentive or responsive nature to our less than demanding needs. We waited an extremely prolonged time for our meals, which were nothing to write home about and an even loooonger time for our desserts. A few times, one of us had to get up and re-request what we had asked for in the first place. We noticed a few times that our waiter was texting on his cell phone.
Great service, amazing food, I requested a seat near the window and surprisingly got it for a Saturday night, there was a group of college girls seated near us and they were quite loud the entire time - that would be my only complaint
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I thought the prices were a little high for the quality and quantity of the meals.
We eat at The Allen Street Grill often on Friday nights prior to PSU football games or just when in State College, PA visiting. The restuarant is situated in a great location on college avenue and the food is usually very good. This past Friday night, the 5 of us did not have a very good meal. The restaurant was busy, which is expected on a big football weekend; however, there were many open tables all around us. After a significantly long wait for our main courses and watching other tables get entrees. desserts, etc. during our wait, we finally asked and were told to 2 duck entrees were overcooked so they were being remade. Good thing we asked. When the food finally arrived, the other 3 entrees seemed to have been kept warm on under a heater as they were a bit dried out. During the wait, a request for additional beer was not fulfilled with the waitress finally returning saying the delay was because they ran out of that can of beer? oh well. We were still charged for the beer which had to be removed from the bill after it was received. The waitress was trying her hardest but the delays and rather bland food are the reasons for the lower than normal review this time around. This experience was hopefully just an oddity and I would still recommend The Allen Street Grill.
Thank you for a wonderful experience at Allen Street Grill. Having made a reservation, we were seated promptly at a window table overlooking College street. Thank you, Adam, for the recommendations. My wife and I loved the Salmon and Chicken Piccata. The Tres Leches was a delicious dessert. Having visited State College for the first time (my wife is an alumni), you MUST visit here when in town. Be sure to request a window seat. Thank you for making it a wonderful experience!
We visited the restaurant on parents weekend, it was a great place to talk and enjoy our son. We all enjoyed our meals, service, and the view.
Our experience was just ok this past weekend. We had a reservation at 2:15 and we were seated promptly. Off to a good start since they were really busy but it was downhill from there. We waited almost an hour after placing our order for the food to arrive. Server barely checked on us and didn't go out of his way to refill drinks and check on our food. Server wasn't any help after someone spilled a drink. We asked for more napkins and about 10 minutes later he brought us two. Finally a kitchen staff person brought out our tray of food and placed on a stand near our table. I thought ok food is here. Nope, server took his time before he brought the food to the table. Finally brought the food. Drink refills and more napkins were difficult to get as he hardly ever checked on us. For the most part the food was fine but not worth the wait. Could have gone to any chain resturant and gotten similar food. Won't be rushing back when we visit PSU.
Good food. Not outstanding but good. Service is relatively attentive but nothing memorable.
It was great that we made a reservation since it was crowded for parents weekend.
Always reliable...but make a reservation, especially for weekends that draw large Penn Stater crowds :)
We had a very good meal here on a mid-week evening. Service was good, as was the food. The view of campus is nice. We'll eat here again.
Our meals were great. We got the lamb chops and the chicken piccata. Our server was very friendly and we loved having him! I thought it was great that he picked up on my boyfriends Pittsburgh accent. He checked up on us just the right amount and always made sure we had everything we needed.
Very accommodating with great food and great service! Definitely will return next time I'm in the area.
