This was our second try, we will not return. Service was terrible, food was okay and it was very loud! We went before theater. No alcohol, one soda, shared a salad and 2 main courses, by the time we left with the tip it was over $100. Not worth it!

My daughter and I stumbled upon this restaurant about a year ago when running late for another dinner reservation. We canceled the original reservation and stepped into Thalia.
We were there this past Sunday. Everything about this place is really nice. The staff, atmosphere, and food. Everything is fresh and delicious.

Thalia is my favorite "before theater" place to eat. Whenever I have tickets to a matinee I make sure to get brunch there and I haven't been disappointed. It is a prime location for when you have tickets to a show, because you don't have to worry about not making it to your show on time. The menu is great, and their theater brunch is a great deal. I always take advantage of their $20 bottomless booze for 90 minutes as well.
This time I was there with a party of 5 and we had a really nice time. The only complaint I have (and this is why I did not rate it 5 stars overall) is that it did take awhile for the waiter to get us our first round of drinks. I have gone to Thalia a lot, and each time I order the bottomless booze, my waiter seems to disappear - it is almost as though it is strategic. Once I mentioned to someone that I was upset that it was taking so long, they did fix it right away, and we didn't have to wait for another drink again.
So - I do HIGHLY recommend Thalia - and if you do get the bottomless booze, just be ontop of them, so you get your money's worth.

we had eaten here before and liked it, but hadn't been to Thalia in a few years. This time, we found it cramped with tables almost on top of each other. It took us over AN HOUR to get our main course served! We think the server forgot to put our order in - she gave us some mumbo jumbo about "kitchen being backed up" - yet people who sat next to us after we had been seated got their food in a reasonable time. Waitress apologized and took our wines off the bill - mysteriously they were still on the bill when we got it. Awful experience, never going back.

The food was great, the service was mediocre. There was a couple seated beside us (table where one side is a chair, the other a long wall bench) and they took it upon themselves to turn their table sideways to sit on the same side of the table on the long bench. This ended up crowding our space and it uncomfortable to sit less than an arms length away from strangers sharing passionate kisses between bites of food. Table was poor location, especially given we'd made a reservation and our cozy neighbors. We were not given bread even though every other table had a basket of bread. The lobster bisque was amazing. I had the Scottish Salmon, my boyfriend had the duck-both were excellent. Location was great for Gershwin Theater show after dinner.

I have been going tp Thalia since it opened. While their lunch menus has gone downhill, their brunch and dinner menus remain quite nice.

We won't be back. Arrived at 6 for 6pm reservations. Ordered promptly. Waited for drink to be delivered. Apps came out timely. Waited until 6:52 for entrees. Sat looking at our empty plates for 15 minutes. Problem with sound system sent music volume to 11, like cover-my-ears-concert-loud, which lasted for 5 or 6 minutes maybe longer. Couldn't wait to get out of there.
I ordered the salmon with brussels sprouts & mushrooms. It was delicious. My husband was very happy with his food. Our server was very nice. But the place must have been understaffed for us to wait so long. Not the servers fault, the managements fault.

Great overall experience for what we paid. Server was the only downside. She was hard to track down when we wanted to place our drink order. She missed out on a much bigger check as we only got one refill the whole night. Our entrees were eaten with empty glasses. I gave her the benefit of the doubt as she seemed to be the only server for several large tables, but we chose to get dessert elsewhere despite Thalia’s delicious selection. As per the food portion of the evening, fantastic. Meat temperate were spot on, pasta was tightly bound, and the sesame seed tuna plating was gorgeous. Would return for the food but most likely will not due to service.

Mushroom ravioli and burgers were great, but the cappuccino was tepid and needed to be returned for a hot cup, and the level of attention by the waiter left something to be desired. Overall, though, a very good pre-theater lunch, and we would definitely return.

We enjoyed a terrific pre-theatre dinner at Thalia on December 16th. Our waiter Ryan did a magnificent job throughout the entire meal and made sure that we had no problems arriving in time for our Broadway show. The food was excellent. We had an assortment of steaks which were cooked perfectly and a delicious cioppino stocked with succulent seafood. The meal was topped off with a delectable tiramisu and some wonderful coffee with Bailey's. We would definitely recommend Thalia to any theatre-goer for an awesome pre-theatre dinner.

We were dining pre-theatre, since the restaurant is across the street from "Wicked " at the Gershwin. They were speedy off the menu, but they have a nice prie fixe selection for pre-theatre. Excellent food, presented beautifully, by relaxed waiters.

Four of us went for pre-theater lunch. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any redeeming feature to our experience. One if us had to ask for coffee multiple times and we never received the bread basket ( and when It was brought with meal after having to ask, the muffins were burnt ). Well done home fries were requested and were brought after the meal . The lobster roll at $24 was perhaps 2 ounces of lobster salad , at the most , and the fries were lukewarm. Nothing was done to redeem the poor service and fair food. None of us will return. Randi M, Great Neck

CANNOT RECOMMEND. The burrata and "heirloom" tomato salad listed on the menu, has no heirloom tomatoes at all but it has the price of a salad with heirloom tomatoes! The manager explains this as a typo, but what about the price? This appetizer had unripened, tasteless plain tomatoes... NOT worth the price. My "medium" hamburger arrived as a completely raw patty of ground meat that was seared on the outside. Upon being shown it, the manager quickly took it away and brought a proper burger that was delicious (but arrived after all were done eating). My husband's salmon was wonderful. My mother's dinner was actually missing key ingredients as listed on the menu, but at that point we didn't even bother mentioning it for fear of further holding up our dinner and missing our 8PM show. All and all, we would NOT return or recommend this restaurant. Serving raw meat is dangerous and misrepresenting dishes at an improper price for the actual ingredients used, is just plain DISHONEST. The server was awesome, but not a great night, overall.

Great service and food. Held a business dinner here and the staff was most accommodating even preparing a beautiful dessert for a retiring colleague with a message on the plate. The wine selection was excellent and food was inventive and tasty. Before and after dinner cocktails were interesting and delicious.

Great location to theaters! Service was awesome!
Food was good and great. (Good) Oysters were a little small, but the taste was yummy! (Great!) My app of SPICY AHI TUNA TARTARE was delightful not too spicey, but it had a nice kick to it. (Great!)The SQUID INK CAPELLINI for my entree was incredible! (Good) My wife had the evening special, Shrimp and Lobster ravioli, it was OK. I wish the ravioli and sauce would have been a little more flavorful. (Good) The complimentary bread given before meal was good. There were different kinds. (Ok) The olive oil to dip the bread in was a little bland. (Great!) Beer selection. Our server Kat ( Short for a long Russian name) was friendly and very attentive through out the night. Even the wait staff that supported her was great! I even enjoyed a lite conversation with the house manager. My fellow African - American from Africa...Lol
A little pricey, but I guess that comes with the NYC theater district territory. (So I'll live with it)
I was hoping for a little low lighting and privacy because we we're celebrating our anniversary, but I guess that might be hard to get anywhere near the theater district ;)
Overall, Really enjoyed our time and would definitely come again and recommend to others.
Hope they keep up the good work.

My daughter and I met at Thalia for brunch before a Sunday matinee . The staff there is lovely, and they sat us right away. The table was a bit squeezed in, but no big deal. They let me wait for my daughter, pouring coffee. All good. I ordered their spinach and mushroom omelette, and asked for it very dry. My daughter, the kale salad w chicken. My eggs came wet, runny and sitting in a pool of butter. Yuck. My daughter left half her salad. Done.

Having a lot of time before an evening event, I asked that the food not be brought out one after the other, with talking room in between. Our request was seen to. The chilled wine was poured for us and often asked . The wait staff was exceedingly friendly, but not obsequious. Not a fan of raw bar myself but I would recommend it to others who are. The pre-theater menu was well-balanced; the salad fresh and piquant, the salmon grilled perfectly to my liking, and the kiwi sorbet fantastic! I've come here before because I like the low-seated and informal cocktail lounge area, and the theatrical ambiance. And I will come again!
