Food was below average
Sunday post matinee dinner. Food was pretty good but portions small. Service could have been better. Overall OK and would return in a pinch.
Went to dinner for my girlfriend's birthday. Ordered at 5.05 didn't receive any food or attention until about 6 where the manager came over to tell me that my order was not able to be fufill Ed because the pork chop was not stored correctly. Mind you during my hour of wait I saw numerous pork chops coming out of the kitchen. There are too many good restaurants in the theater discrict to go to Thalia.
We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and was promptly seated. It was a Sunday afternoon and by 1 o’clock not very crowded. Our server took our order timely— but that’s where good service ended. We had to wait 55 minutes for our lunch to arrive! It did come hot but the timeframe was too long! This happened before so we tried it again. The service did not improve.
I ordered crab cake sandwich, and it was very flat (literally), and way too much filler instead of crab. I couldn't even taste the crab! The absolute worst crab cake I've ever had! Period. The fries that came with it were clearly not fresh as they were hard, and most likely reheated after it was sitting around for a while. The waiter was nice enough, but not all that attentive. He mostly tried to sell us the unlimited 90 minute drinks for $20. The glasses we had were not washed properly, and though it was pretty empty inside, my party of 2 was sat in the middle of a bunch of people. It was weird to see all of these empty seats and still be on top of each other. I know this is a restaurant for theater goers and (primarily) tourists, and I knew the food would be subpar, but I basically got served cafeteria food. Native NYers would like someplace close/decent to go to before a show, and this place is sorely lacking. It COULD be SO much better...if the chef/owners cared more about the food and quality. McDonalds would've been more satisfying. The only nice things were the quiet noise level and restaurant decor. That's it!
This was an unfortunate visit to Thalia. Whenever we go to the city we try to visit this restaurant but our Sunday brunch was nowhere near as good as it has been in the past. We were greeted and seated promptly which was very nice. We ordered our complimentary cocktails that come with the brunch and about 10 minutes later the waiter returned to say the bar was busy so could we place our order and then he would go and get our drinks. They were only four tables taken at the restaurant so it was odd that the bar would be too busy to pour four mimosas. When our food arrived, the two ladies who ordered BLT sandwiches had no bacon on either of their sandwiches. My chicken Cobb salad had 10 tiny pieces of grilled cubed chicken in the entire salad. Another in our group ordered the burger and it was less than impressive. When we told the waiter the bacon was missing he said we have a new chef and apologized. We asked if we could just get bacon on the side. He Returned with two small plates of bacon. After that, he never checked on us again. We were all really surprised in that we have always found the restaurant to offer much better service and much better food. It was just very disappointing.
Food was Overpriced and underflavored, wine was expensive and awful quality.
Very enjoyable . Waitress was excellent and moved my group to a windowed table. Food good. Great pre-theatre spot.
The quality of the prix fixe menu was a surprise and enjoyable. ambiance was very good. some of the decor is tired looking and the blaring old katy perry music was not pleasant. staff were pleasant, efficient, fast (pre-theatre). will visit again.
This was our second try, we will not return. Service was terrible, food was okay and it was very loud! We went before theater. No alcohol, one soda, shared a salad and 2 main courses, by the time we left with the tip it was over $100. Not worth it!
