Thalia Ratings and Reviews
Four of us went for pre-theater lunch. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any redeeming feature to our experience. One if us had to ask for coffee multiple times and we never received the bread basket ( and when It was brought with meal after having to ask, the muffins were burnt ). Well done home fries were requested and were brought after the meal . The lobster roll at $24 was perhaps 2 ounces of lobster salad , at the most , and the fries were lukewarm. Nothing was done to redeem the poor service and fair food. None of us will return. Randi M, Great Neck
CANNOT RECOMMEND. The burrata and "heirloom" tomato salad listed on the menu, has no heirloom tomatoes at all but it has the price of a salad with heirloom tomatoes! The manager explains this as a typo, but what about the price? This appetizer had unripened, tasteless plain tomatoes... NOT worth the price. My "medium" hamburger arrived as a completely raw patty of ground meat that was seared on the outside. Upon being shown it, the manager quickly took it away and brought a proper burger that was delicious (but arrived after all were done eating). My husband's salmon was wonderful. My mother's dinner was actually missing key ingredients as listed on the menu, but at that point we didn't even bother mentioning it for fear of further holding up our dinner and missing our 8PM show. All and all, we would NOT return or recommend this restaurant. Serving raw meat is dangerous and misrepresenting dishes at an improper price for the actual ingredients used, is just plain DISHONEST. The server was awesome, but not a great night, overall.
The staff at Thalia were very friendly and made our experience. They were very accommodating by moving our reservation up a half hour when I called the morning of. Restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, clean bathrooms, and the complimentary brunch cocktail was a great addition!
Great service and food. Held a business dinner here and the staff was most accommodating even preparing a beautiful dessert for a retiring colleague with a message on the plate. The wine selection was excellent and food was inventive and tasty. Before and after dinner cocktails were interesting and delicious.
Great location to theaters! Service was awesome!
Food was good and great. (Good) Oysters were a little small, but the taste was yummy! (Great!) My app of SPICY AHI TUNA TARTARE was delightful not too spicey, but it had a nice kick to it. (Great!)The SQUID INK CAPELLINI for my entree was incredible! (Good) My wife had the evening special, Shrimp and Lobster ravioli, it was OK. I wish the ravioli and sauce would have been a little more flavorful. (Good) The complimentary bread given before meal was good. There were different kinds. (Ok) The olive oil to dip the bread in was a little bland. (Great!) Beer selection. Our server Kat ( Short for a long Russian name) was friendly and very attentive through out the night. Even the wait staff that supported her was great! I even enjoyed a lite conversation with the house manager. My fellow African - American from Africa...Lol
A little pricey, but I guess that comes with the NYC theater district territory. (So I'll live with it)
I was hoping for a little low lighting and privacy because we we're celebrating our anniversary, but I guess that might be hard to get anywhere near the theater district ;)
Overall, Really enjoyed our time and would definitely come again and recommend to others.
Hope they keep up the good work.
My daughter and I met at Thalia for brunch before a Sunday matinee . The staff there is lovely, and they sat us right away. The table was a bit squeezed in, but no big deal. They let me wait for my daughter, pouring coffee. All good. I ordered their spinach and mushroom omelette, and asked for it very dry. My daughter, the kale salad w chicken. My eggs came wet, runny and sitting in a pool of butter. Yuck. My daughter left half her salad. Done.
Having a lot of time before an evening event, I asked that the food not be brought out one after the other, with talking room in between. Our request was seen to. The chilled wine was poured for us and often asked . The wait staff was exceedingly friendly, but not obsequious. Not a fan of raw bar myself but I would recommend it to others who are. The pre-theater menu was well-balanced; the salad fresh and piquant, the salmon grilled perfectly to my liking, and the kiwi sorbet fantastic! I've come here before because I like the low-seated and informal cocktail lounge area, and the theatrical ambiance. And I will come again!
My visit to Thalia was both my first and last. The music from speakers was overly loud, and complaints to the manager went unheeded. The table we were directed to had a peeling surface. Although we told the waitress we had theater tickets, service was exceedingly slow. When the waitress was asked for dessert menus, we were given only one although three were at the table. When we left Thalia, I apologized to my two guests for my choice.
There is nothing good to say. Service was abysmal. Waiter quit after he took our drink order and just walked out. Management didn't even know he was gone. It was the worst run establishment I have seen in awhile. Good came eventually but was cold and literally thrown at us. Ugh. Awful
We waited 10 minutes for water, our server quit in the middle of his shift, so no one else came. When we asked for water the man who served it rolled his eyes. They served the meal with no salt and pepper and when we asked they slammed it down. There were also three other tables with issues. Then I️ waited 15 minutes for honey for my toast when they never told me they had no preserves. The honey was expired in June! Terrible service and we would never go back. We ran into the ladies at the table next to us after our show and they received our check instead of theirs. The best part was leaving and not paying.
The best thing about Thalia's is the convenient location to many theaters. The food is good. I was satisfied. However, service was very slow, clearly understaffed for the number of patrons they were trying to serve. The 'free' drink, made free by the entre order, was also free from alcohol! I swear my mimosa was made with flat stale champagne! There are better restaurants in town, show make earlier reservations or you also might end up at Thalia's.
