Thai Time Restaurant & Bar - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We were a group of mixed preferences. Thai Time staff was incredibly helpful in selecting dishes suitable for each diners taste. Wonderful presentation and and culinary experience beginning with specialty house cocktails, appetizers, a variety of entrees, ending the evening with tasty traditional Thai deserts. Thank you!
Great food and great drinks but what makes the experience most memorable is being lovingly served by Tumi. All you have to do is show up and Tumi will take care of the rest. If you do not know what to order, she will find out what will work for your tastes and it will be wonderful.
Phad Thai Noodles is my test dish when I try out a new Thai place. Phad Thai is like a hamburger - simple in concept but difficult to execute a stellar version.
Too much sauce and it was a bit too sweet with a slight taste of ketcup. Need to be able to taste the rice noodles. The chicken and shrimp were over cooked and tough. I ordered medium spicy and should have ordered next degree up in spiciness. Lime wedge was tiny. You should be able to taste distinctly each of the elements in a pad thai and not a mishmash.
Service was friendly and nice.
I've been going to Thai Time for years and they consistently create a memorable meal. It's a friendly atmosphere and the food is delicious ! Tumi is adorable and is always smiling and welcoming. Tom (and Tumi) make excellent cocktails ~ and in generous size glasses. Their new girl, Jai was delightful, too. I've tried many of their menu choices over the years as there is a great selection of tasty Thai dishes. Give it a try! You'll enjoy yourselves. Parking is available in back.
It's been a couple years since we've eaten here and it's only gotten better. Owner and staff made our group of 6 feel welcome. Ambiance is charming, staff suggested drink options that were original. We had our wait staff suggest dishes for our group and all were tasty and we left feeling satisfied and that we had tried a variety of the restaurant offerings. Great evening, we'll be back.
The food was fair, nothing special or memorable. We had calamari, tom yum goong, pad thai, and eggplant w/basil.
The service, however, was not great. They were severely understaffed with only two people working on a Thursday night. While they were nice enough, they were frazzled and rushed from table to table, spilling water all over the table whenever they refilled our glasses. It took 15-20 minutes to take our appetizer order and another 20-25 minutes to take our entree order.
Thankfully, I was with patient teenagers who didn't care so much. But overall, the food was not good enough for me to go back.
This is my go to place for Thai. Come in and meet the staff once, next time they not only remember you, they have an uncanny way of remembering what you like too. Now that's service. The food is always great, fast service even when they seemed shorthanded everyone pitched in so no one had a long wait. A must have is the Tom Yom Goong Soup, its kinda a hot and sour with shrimp but the kiffar lime leaves and galangal bring a taste to it that is outta this world. Go in and enjoy.
I have been to Thailand many times and I love Thai food. Most Thai restaurants in the SF Bay Area tone down the intensity of spices in their dishes, but not Thai Time. There are 2 dishes I order to determine if a restaurant is authentic: Som Tum (green papaya salad) and Larb, and I tell the kitchen to make them "Thai spicy". Thai Time's papaya salad is very close to the ones I've had in Thailand, closer than any other restaurant I've tried in this area. Same with the Larb. The papaya salad needs to have a slightly fishy/shrimpy taste together with sourness from lime and saltiness from fish sauce. The Thai Time papaya salad fulfills these criteria.
The staff here is wonderfully welcoming and the food was incredible! We had not been here in quite a few years but had remembered that we had enjoyed the food. Everything and everyone was even better than we remembered.Tumi (sp?) was the best!
My husband and I look forward to a return visit soon.
Thai Time is a great place to go for groups. I have gone here for both work lunches and happy hours with friends, and it's always a good place. The food is authentic Thai food and host very good options for affordable prices - especially the lunch specials. serive is fast, which is also a winner when dining during your lunch break. Located on El Camino in San Carlos, Thai Time is a good getaway from the usual downtown restaurants.
Food recommendation: The green curry with a Thai iced tea.
Great food, great service, what more could you want? If you really want spicy be specific as you will get a milder version if you do not. Also be aware if you ask for spicy it has a pretty good kick. You can add additional spice by asking for the hot pepper condiment plate to be brought to your table. The house made thai chile in the fish sauce is the bomb.
My husband and I eat at Thai Time every weekend and have for about 10 years. We love the people (staff and patrons), the food and the cocktails. The food and cocktails and beer are especially good. It is a great neighborhood restaurant. Very fun and friendly.
