We love the ambiance of the main seating section. Walking into the front door, you are presented with a scene of good music, a bar, and a staircase to the upstairs seating area. Crystal chandeliers hang over all and present a good vibe.
However, if you are in a group of 6, or if the main room and upstairs are full, you will be herded away to a back room where there is no ambiance. It might as well be a business conference room. You feel totally isolated and disconnected from the restaurant you thought you were in. The wait staff also forgets about you! Forget about ordering another drink—you’ll be done with your meal before a server strolls in remembering that you’re there.
Being seated upstairs or in the main floor dining room is a class act 5-star fun eating experience. Don’t let them put you in the back room.
My advice to the restaurant is to knock out that wall and enlarge the main seating area.
I am the Organizer of the PDX Matinee Moviegoers. Thai Peacock is one of our favorite restaurants, especially after seeing a movie at Living Room Theaters, across the street. We are usually seated in the back room, where we can enjoy our food while we talk about the movies we've seen.
Very rude staff! We were not given a very warm welcome when we entered the restaurant. We had made a reservation a couple of weeks in advance since we were celebrating my daughter’s graduation. Our server was very rude when I told her the bathroom did not have toilet paper. She acted like I was inconveniencing her. She took our order pretty much the same way. The food was okay but she never bothered to check to see if we needed anything. Since we were a large party, the 18% tip was automatically included so this would explain why she didn’t even try to provide good service. Nothing was done or said about the special occasion. It also happened to be Father’s Day and our large party included three fathers but there was nothing mentioned to them either. There are a ton of restaurants in Portland, so there is no need to plan a return visit here!
PDX Matinee Moviegoers love Thai Peacock. Excellent food and service.
Great for groups. We had a group of 14 people. Service was fast and they gave us separate checks. Everyone in our group wants to go back. PDX Matinee Moviegoers.
Thai Peacock's staff attended to our large group with excellent service. Great food too. I definitely recommend booking large group reservations with them.
Food was fantastic and served lighting fast. Will be back! Cocktails were also very good.
Food was great, we were especially pleased by the speed our food was served!
Awesome food, quick and delicious. We were a party of 10, seated in special room which was quiet although lacking a bit from the louder more pleasant main dining room. Still one of the best Thai restaurants. Servers recommendations were terrific. Be warned though. Their medium is what most Thai restaurants would call Hot.
Food is amazing. Almost the best Thai we have ever eaten. The service could be better (friendlier). We were a family of 7 and one of our childrens food arrived after everyone else at the table was finished eating. In many American restaurants, a good manager would not charge for that late dish.
The ambience was nice, cozy, and clean.
Busy night. Took a little while to get drinks and appetizers came at the same time as food. But the food was fantastic and super delicious!!
So great! Loved the happy hour
Food is fantastic, service is amazingly fast and the new add on space is perfect for large groups.
Great food and excellent service.
If you like Thai food, this is a good place.
New Year’s Eve!
Came for Christmas Eve dinner. Great service, and authentic Thai dishes. Would definitely come back again!
As usual the experience was great! Great food, and the service was wonderful.
Had the Pad Siu, yellow curry, tom kha soup, fried rice, and for desert a banana filled egg roll and coconut ice cream. Everything was very tasty the couple we brought thanked us for choosing this restaurant.
A good choice for simple Thai food in the downtown area. The food was good, service friendly. We had a group of 12, yet the food came out promptly and was all quite tasty.
Ordered for chicken but was served pork. Had just 4 adults to dine in and 2 kids . Was charged a gratuity of 18% and was incorrectly mentioned as a party of 6+.
Left a tip of 5 dollars and that was charged to 9 dollars when I saw my posted cc card transaction. This is not acceptable. I will never visit this place again and will never recommend any of my friends.
This was our first visit and we were very impressed with the tasty food and great service. One of the best Thai restaurants we have been to. Highly recommend for any occasion.
The food was very good, flavors were balanced.
The service could have been better. Water was not refilled, even after asking. And put server was not friendly.
We reserved on open table but somehow they lost our reservation. Despite that, they quickly found room for our party of 8. The service seemed a bit put off and we had to repeat our order and send items back as they were not what we ordered. Once we did get our food, it was wonderful.
I enjoyed the evening but as we were dining late we were not allowed to be in the loft area. The food was nicely served and parking was easy.
It was a beautiful restaurant, it was a place I would go back to for sure.
Best Thai food in Portland. Fast service come early or make a reservation.
Be careful if you bring a group to the Thai Peacock. The restaurant is great. Amazing setting, beautiful lighting and the food was very, very good and reasonably priced. The staff was great. However, we booked a large group and they put us in the back room. It felt like we were eating in a warehouse. If you go with a small group, ask for the balcony, it is the best spot in the place.
We started with Tom Kha soup, which was delicious. We also had several noodle dishes, including one with crispy fried egg noodles and boiled egg noodles, which was particularly delicious. Highly recommend this place!
Small dining area, with additional seating up a set of stairs. Food is good Thai food. I ate a bowl of Tom Yum soup that was as good as any that I've tasted.
When I called to confirm my Open Table reservation, they said they do not accept reservations made online and took my name and reservation again (even though their Facebook page says you can make reservations there, too!) Food and atmosphere were awesome.
My favorite is the pad Thai. Deeeelicious !
Food and ambiance is always good here. Happy Hour is definitely worth a stop.
The food was wonderful, with even my pickiest friend having no complaints. The evil jungle noodles were delicious, and dinner itself was pretty inexpensive. Highly recommended.
My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner upon the recommendation of our hotel concierge. We live in the Washington DC area which has a lot of good Thai restaurants. We would come here at least monthly if we lived in Portland. The food is absolutely authentic. They manage their spice hotness to each customer's tastes. All of the traditional Thai curry and pad dishes are on the menu. The family-owned restaurant styles itself as offering Thai "comfort food" and we agree. The restaurant is about three blocks from Powell's Books and just a half block south of Burnside between the Pearl and Southwest districts. We didn't count the number of tables but we did sit upstairs which offers a loft-like view of the downstairs area. There seemed to be a nice mix of local and tourist patrons so this is a neighborhood gem for sure, not a tourist trap. Prices are reasonable. If you are reading this review you probably already like Thai food -- you won't be disappointed
Loved the Thai food at this small eatery. Parking 'fairy' gifted us with a spot right out front. Our waiter was friendly & efficient. And the food - fantastic, fresh and filling. We'll definitely return!
Wonderful selection service and authenticity. Excellent meal at a reasonable price.
Foods was excellent and beautiful. The heat level I requested was just right. Noise level was low. Small place, so probably not a good fit for large parties. Cocktails were good but small and expensive. I stuck to beer after one.
We were in town for the weekend and made a reservation for 5 (always tricky) through Open Table. Unfortunately, we under-estimated how long it would take us to walk to the restaurant and by the time we got there (15-min late), they had released our table. Fortunately, they found something else for us - a great table in the "loft" -- with great view of restaurant, outside, etc. Excellent lighting (my pet peeve) too. Food was ample (5 of us shared two starters and three entrees). Delicious papaya salad. Great tofu dishes too.
Thanks to Yelp reviews, I chose this restaurant for my 35th birthday dinner. Although the service was spotty and the staff members were rather abrupt and rude, the food was incredible! We had a variety of appetizers (chicken satay, the salad rolls, etc.) and I ordered the Gang Mussaman with chicken and I was so happy I did. My sister and friend split the Evil Jungle Noodle with chicken and said it was delicious. It's too bad our server was so impolite and helpful, especially considering it was my birthday. But, I would definitely go back the next time I'm in town.
