   I had booked in plenty time to receive a phone call on the 30th December at 10.00pm to inform that the restaurant was closed on 31st December and that they did not not know how I managed to book online. Extremely dissapointing as it was a special occasion due to it being my partners birthday and spoilt our hogmany.It is such a shame as I have been there many times previous and had take always from the restaurant although I am afraid to say I shall not be going back as never even got an apoligy.

   Staying at the Hotel20 overnight I decided to book a table at the Thai Pad for the sake of convenience. My friends and I were going to the theatre so booked for a pre theatre meal. We were first into the restaurant so the food was all freshly made. Boy, was it worth the wait!! All 3 of us had different dishes and each one was superb. We each had 2 courses and had 3 side dishes for sharing. Along with this we had a bottle of wine and the total bill came to £54 - absolutely incredible. I would say that if you are in Edinburgh, you ha e to go to this restaurant. You will most certainly not be disappointed. You may have to search a bit to find it but well worth the search.

   We chose the Thai Pad based on reviews we had read and we were not disappointed, the food was exceptionally good and very reasonably priced. You have to go downstairs to get to it but do not be put off, we'll worth it.

   The maitre d was efficient in service but he was not welcoming or responsive in any way. We politely requested the tealights to be lit which he did but again not speaking. The atmosphere and ambience including the fern strewn entrance was odd. A shame because the food is very good indeed. Might order a takeaway but could not recommend the actual restaurant.

   Though quiet for a Friday night, this suited us as we'd just arrived from London and wanted a nice chilled dinner near our hotel. Took some time to find, but we very impressed with the food and service. Had a lovely dinner and we weren't rushed despite even though we were the only ones in the restaurant for the last hour. Offered us dessert despite it being past closing time. Wish it was more local to us, a big thumbs up!

   Food good but lacked atmosphere - not the waiter's fault but 2 people started playing Xmas songs from adverts on tele!! Loudly. We went to the bar but VERY LOUD people letting each other know how important they thought they were. They weren't. Starters were fine and mains good!
