Texas Ratings and Reviews
We love TEXAS. This wasn’t our best trip. They were busier than I have ever seen which was great for them. They handled it great. Except they ran out of my favorite the Ribs. I had to get something else for once. It was great. I guess I should try new things sometimes. Shelby knows how to make me happy and sent me home with a few of their amazing cookies. We love Texas and we will be back. Hopefully they have more Ribs then...
Ate at Texas two times on this trip to Dallas. Have eaten there before when in Dallas. The food is always superb - great steaks done just right every time. The staff works as a team so is always on top of any needs, friendly, personable, attentive but not intrusive. The "feel" of Texas is special - interesting design appeal, very nice background music (but not so loud as to affect table conversation), a warm fireplace burning at one end and another outside on the covered deck. The furthest thing from a chain restaurant I can imagine (in a good way) - the owner and his family and staff consider guests their friends and circulate to make sure everyone feels personally welcomed and that the food and service are perfect. They go out of their way to make sure anniversaries and birthdays are special. Good variety on the menu but I confess I have difficulty not ordering the New York pepper steak every time.
We enjoyed our first experience at TEXAS. They were packed with happy customers ready to enjoy a great meal. Warning: DON’ T CUT THE BREAD... break it!! It’s the enjoyment of breaking bread with friends. Never mind the crumbs. Excellent food, service, entertainment, hospitality and atmosphere. Not the place to bring unruly, running kids or crying babies. Get a babysitter and enjoy yourselves.
We went New Year's Eve. It's a beautiful place, with a great atmosphere. However, all was not well. When I made the reservation on Open Table there was no mention of a "New Year's menu." I found out when the restaurant called a few days before NYE to confirm. Not that it changed our desire to go, but that is something that we should have known up front. Our waiter was very outgoing, but a little scatter brained. When he took the salad plates, he took both forks from all four of us. Before the food arrived he brought 4 napkins, folded in a triangle and placed them in front of each of us. He explained that the plates come out extremely hot and they did that to protect the table. So they delivered the food and cautioned us how hot they were, and we in turn, pointed out that we had no forks. They did not come back immediately. In fact, we sat there wondering if they had forgotten. At that point I touched my plate and to my surprise, it was barely warm. After the forks finally arrived, I realized that the food was basically room temperature. Being New Year's Eve, I'm sure that their stress level was high. Then again, they chose to be open and they should have been prepared and not have been so harried. It is a very nice place and the food was great, except for the temperature. It is expensive, but on par with other places in that category and is fairly price for the food and atmosphere. I would go again and I suspect that on a "normal" evening the issues that we had would not occur again.
Upon arrival we were promptly seated at a requested upstairs table. Shannon, the upstairs "hostess" greeted us warmly and spent a little time making us feel welcomed - a very nice touch overlooked by many places. Service was timely between courses and attentive without being intrusive. The steaks were perfectly cooked and all sides except green beans were tasty and seasoned to our tastes, especially the mushrooms in a light wine sauce. Good food, attentive service and prompt seating all made for a good dining experience!
Texas is one of our favorite places to eat. The food is outstanding and we have never been disappointed with any food choice. Service is always spot on and entire staff is very friendly. Taylor was our waitress and she was excellent. Shelby was a bright spot in our night! We keep going back. Well worth the $$$
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Texas. I ordered the chicken breast with pecan sauce, roasted veggies, and burnt corn--all Weight Watchers friendly. He ordered beef filet medallions and said they were extremely tender and flavorful. Everything was delicious, including the crusty bread served pre-meal. We enjoyed the entertainment--a great singer who used tracks and embellished by playing guitar and sax. The highlight of the meal was the complimentary chocolate cake with a sparkler for our special occasion. This was our first time dining at Texas, and it was a wonderful experience.
The menu had a good variety as well as the wine list. It was Christmas time and the decorations were beautiful. Really made it seem warm and inviting. The wait staff and managers were very friendly and courteous and really wanted to meet your every need. Since it was our first time there, our waitress was very good at explaining the dishes and how they were prepared. This is always helpful when it’s your first visit. The presentation of the food was great and time was appropriate. The food was very good but probably not the best steak I ever had, but it was tasty. Some people at my table had fish dishes and said they were really good. I would definitely go back again!
The second time I have been disappointed. I have now learned to stay away. The bread was very dry, not crusty as intended? Took 3 requests for water. Wine took 10 minutes to arrive. Salad was pitifully lacking in actual greens! Looked and tasted like a Panera salad. We had 2 salads, one with steak and one with salmon. The fries on my granddaughters chicken tenders were decent-about all that I can say.
We made reservations for 7:30pm to dine for my birthday and arrived promptly at 7:20pm. The hostess told us to wait at the bar and they would get us when our table was ready and we weren’t seated until 7:55pm. It took another 10 minutes just for someone to come ask us for our drink order so we already had our food order ready to go when the server arrived. I ordered a cup of soup and it came out ice cold so I had to send it back. Our food didn’t come out until 9pm. Had we known that it would take an hour and a half from our reservation time to get our food, we wouldn’t have dined here. Our server checked on us only one time during the meal and was unapologetic about food coming out cold or late. We were literally about to leave because we waited so long but then our food finally came out as we were sliding out of the booth. The manager tried to rectify the situation by bringing us a slice of chocolate cake to share but we will not be dining here again.
Fabulous night! Food was excellent! We had two children who were entertained by the owner who greeted us and the magician who came around. It was great to have such a nice restaurant be so welcoming to children! Food was pricey, but we ordered several appetizers, exquisite top of the line main courses, and a bottle of wine. Our server was helpful and attentive. Busy restaurant, recommend reservations. We would definitely go back. We were looking for something special for a birthday celebration and found it with Texas!!!
My wife and I have been here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Dale and crew work hard to make sure it’s done right. The kitchen has always performed to a high standard of performance and execution. Forty plus years in the food industry has led me to be a little bit critical of underachievers in this market. Not at Texas! Well done.
My wife & I have been going to Texas since the day it opened and have NEVER had a bad experience. Every meal Dale comes by our table and personally greets us and checks on us multiple times just like he does every table in the restaurant - try to find that type of service in a Dallas restaurant any longer !!!!!
I have my own business and at the end of every job my customers receive a $100.00 gift certificate from "Texas" - this is how much my wife and I think about this local restaurant.
"Keep it up Dale - Great Job"
