Tesoro was perfectly okay, though the service was a little odd. We were greeted indifferently and seemed to have three or four different waiters throughout our meal. The food was average or slightly below average Italian fare, and the dining room itself is a bit dingy. We recently moved to the neighborhood and wanted to give the place a try, but wouldn't come back.
Great, reliable restaurant
Food was good. Service started out fine but fell off as things went along. Seemed server forgot us and we need to get the attention of another server.
My friend and I had a lovely time. The wait staff was excellent , the food delicious and we were encouraged to sit and chat for as long as we liked. It was a wonderful birthday celebration for my friend We hope to go back to Tesoro in the near future.
Went with my wife and kids and had a fantastic time. The food was excellent (everything was delicious, and my son said he thought the calamari was the best he ever had) and the service friendly and prompt. Very reasonable prices, especially considering the quality of the food.
My friend and I went to Tesoro for lunch. We were greeted and seated by very courteous staff who helped us to our seats. The service was exceptional. Food served seemed to have been cooked after we ordered (steaming hot, which was most welcome). Throughout the meal the wait-staff continued to serve us most pleasantly. All tables were not taken. The ambiance was extremely appealing. We had a delightful time there. I've been to several restaurants in the DC area for many business lunches and special occasions and would rate this as the best!
take pride in food and excellent attentive service
Loved Tesoro! Food was amazing and will be definitely going back!
Tesoro is an excellent value and a neighborhood gem. The portions are ample and the staff friendly and helpful.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner. Nice local place for a quick bite at the bar. But the restaurant needs a pick-me-up. Menus are old and cracking, walls need a paint job; the word "seedy" comes to mind. The food was lackluster. The pasta fagioli was the best item we ordered; very good. The fresh mozzarella in the caprese salad was lovely, but paired with tasteless "winter" tomatoes. The ravioli had unseasoned ground veal. The cream sauce lacked the creamy, buttery flavor we expected. A bit disappointing for a holiday night out.
Hot and delicious. Fresh ingredients... pizza is awesome also the house bread.. service superb thank you for a great lunch Happy holidays !!
We came in around 10 pm... the place was busy... that's a good sign. I ordered the Ragu vetelo with house made fettuccine it was delicious... my girl friend ordered the fettuccine Mediterrana... it screams seafood.. it was very tasty..termeso for dessert was house made too. Light and not to sweet... also house bread us out of this world . 😁😁😁
We were in the neighborhood and Tesoro was across the street. One half of the space is a bar and the main seating area is to the left of the entrance. This is a fairly small restaurant, similar to many on the upper west side of NY.
I ordered the Pollo Il Tesoro and my wife had the Polo alla Regina. As we just came from a art opening we did not have any of the appetizers and we are also attempting to lose weight. The Polo Il Tesoro came with pasta. The sauce for the chicken was also used on the pasta. The chicken was very tasty the by using the Il Tesoro sauce the pasta was not overpowered. My wife's chicken was served with spinach. Everything was done properly. When we are back in this area we will stop in again for dinner.
While the food was fairly good, the service was poor. I was quite disappointed with the overall experience.
Terrible Service and Food. Never going back again.
Tesoro is consistently good. The owner and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The chef doesn't mind creating something not on the menu (within reason if they have the ingredients). We love this place.
Generally, we really like this restaurant. However, on Sunday evening (Oct 22) it was a very different experience. We had made a reservation for 6:30. When we arrived we noticed that there were several tables set up for a large group. But the waiter said that the group would not arrive until 7:30. So we thought it would be OK. We sat down and the waiter recommended a bottle of wine. We thought it was the same one we had had on several previous occasions. It must have been a different year because to tell the truth it was horrible. The veal marsala that I ordered had very watery sauce. I had wanted a pasta with white sauce but the waiter said that the pasta would be in the sauce. Then the large group arrived at 7. There were only two servers working with quite a few tables. By the time we tried to pay our bill, we waited an eternity. We finally stood up and went to the credit card machine to pay the bill. We had a gift certificate. It took a while for the waiter to figure out how to use the gift card and charge the rest of the bill. What we are trying to say is that we don't understand why the system took our reservations when there were only two servers on staff and a large group expected. Also, if the recommended wine is a different year, then it should not be suggested. And when asking for pasta with white sauce, it should be allowed.
Amazing restaurant. Loved the quality, homemade pastas and fresh ingredients. Produce from Italy and cheese from Wisconsin, Tesoro knows how to make it right. I made a reservation for 7 and the whole group loved it, from wine and appetizers to dessert. The staff was amazing; friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Reasonably priced menu in a good location. The menu is varied from simple pasta dishes to more adventurous fish and meat dishes. Pasta selections were chosen by two or our three person group. The sauces were interesting and the amount of pasta large. The best of the three meals was a filet or fish. On this particular Wednesday night, the service was slow. I had to get up and visit the bar to coax the second round of drinks that we had ordered 10 minutes earlier.
Food was delicious and similar to what I've had in Europe. A great find.
Amazing food and even better service. Great prices for the area as well. My only complaint is that there were a few parties smoking while dining on the patio where we were sitting which was not ideal.
It was amazing..great prices for the food.i am a chef and it makes me quite picky so I was very impressed.
Our mistake was to be there at the same time as a large group. it was evident that the restaursnt is not equipped to handle that many people at any one time. Not enough waiters, who tried to do their best, but were overwhelmed. Another example of poor preparation was that at some point another waiter asked us to empty our bread basket so that he could take it and use it for a different table!!!!! Pretty bad,no?
Will not be going back any time soon.
innovative menu, great food. cute street patio. service OK
Been there before and liked it - food is familiar but not at all boring. Good ingredients and not stingy w/spices. One in our party had fried mozzarella sticks, which can be greasy, but these were terrific! Well-breaded and not a drop of extra oil. Penne Arrabiata was spicy and delicious; veal was tender; Pasta Fagioli (bean soup) is totally authentic and it's almost worth going for that alone. Staff is friendly and helpful but not overwhelming. It was too cold for the outdoor patio, but if you sit there, the Connecticut Ave. streetscape is very nice.
And just so you know - the Tesoro ownership is involved in an organization helping wounded veterans. They've been very committed and keep it up when lots of people have forgotten that vets need ongoing support. One reason we chose it was to patronize a restaurant that shows its values - and these are the best values.
Tesoro can be relied on for recognizable Italian-style food, easy for families and groups. While it may not be at the top of "foodie" lists like its across-the-street neighbor Sfoglina, it's perfectly acceptable and much less expensive.
A local staple. Excellent friendly service! Recommend the seafood fettuccini. Prices are very reasonable.
The food and service were great. We would go back again
Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The food was good, classic Italian. Portions are huge.
Right down from our house and even if it wasn't, worth the drive to enjoy the home prepared meals. Food is always delicious and the specials are innovative and delicious. Always a pleaser for our out of town guests. Service is superb and the management always attentive.
Have to say it wasn't as good as it has been in the past! But maybe just an off night.
Not sleek or modern, definitely a bit shabby... but we'll come back for the delicious bruschetta/foccacia alone and the food was solid. (E.g., Slightly overcooked but fresh paparadelle with fresh shellfish and fresh spicy tomato sauce. A splurge on a special that was worth the expense.) Seems to have a neighborhood crowd of varying ages, families, couples, groups of friends... We were glad to have stumbled upon it!
What a wonderful surprise this restaurant was. We thought it would be a good place to have dinner, but it was a Great place.
I hadn't been to Tesoro in a few years, and was happy to find the food is still good. My favorite dish, Tortellini Tri Colore, remains on the menu! The portions were quite large. Our server was wonderful - attentive, friendly, and unobtrusive.
The wait staff was excellent (Jovanna), the neighborhood gathering "vibe," and the generally friendly atmosphere a plus.
We started out w/decent drinks and appetizers (Italian mojito was pretty darn good), but the entrees were not to spec. The lamb chops were ok, but cooked a little too well for lamb. The quinoa side underneath was cold. It was purposely served cold, but didn't make sen Jovanna did get it heated up for us, but by then we were not all that wowed. The ravioli/pork loin dish was a little too sweet, and not all that sophisticated but ok. Would definitely come back for drinks and apps.
Never returning! Calamari soggy! Mozzarella sticks cold! Pasta over cooked & broken! chicken parma disgusting filled w/ fat & tough. Something has changed - even the plates which were smaller yet overly piled!
It was my second visit and both the food and service were as good as the first time. A varied menu of Italian dishes.
Mediocre on all fronts. I have been to Tesoro several times and had good meals. This was the exception. All 5 of us had bland pasta dishes.
Visited the area with a large group, and had a wonderful experience. Our servers were excellent and the food was amazing!! Will come back for sure.
Extremely friendly & courteous staff. Food was very good.
