Restaurant was temporarily closed. This information was not provided to Open Table. I found out what I went online to get the restaurant's phone number.
We didn’t have an experience. Despite taking our reservation, the restaurant was closed.
I made a reservation only to arrive at the restaurant and find them closed.
restaurant seems to be closed... we got there, parked, and then found the doors locked
I made a reservation and showed up on time. Upon getting out of my cab, I learned that this restaurant was CLOSED. I called to check, maybe did they move? Nope. On the other end of the phone was a busy signal. So I had to spend over $40 to finally eat, as I was in the middle of nowhere with no dinner and no car. Angry is an understatement, as I was with hungry children.
The restaurant accepted our reservation and had advertised opening hours, but it was closed when we showed up.
So sad you lost liquor license. It was rather a depressed area. Maybe new owners?
We passed by this restaurant on the way to our hotel. The posted menu and the outdoor seating prompted us to make a reservation.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that they currently were waiting on their liquor license.
We should have left then but we didn’t.
We were seated at a table that did not have the napkin wrapped silverware like the other tables.
We decided to take them off the table beside ours. There was only one other table that was occupied the entire time we were there so we were surprised when we were reprimanded for taking this silverware from the other table.
The calamari I ordered was not freshly breaded but appeared to be frozen that anyone could buy and reheat.
Our meals were mediocre. Our veal seemed liked processed meat rather than fresh veal.
We were very disappointed with our restaurant selection.
Great food, wonderful service. We met friends for dinner and the staff was laid back and we were able to have a relaxed experience and catch up with old friends we hadn’t seen in awhile. Great with the kids too! It was like having dinner at a friends house!
Excellent service and good food
Very friendly service. I would go back for the bread service alone.
Best value in the city...outstanding meal with excellent service.
My family and I went here to celebrate my birthday. I felt very special thanks to the hospitality of Rosa and Ignacio. The food was delicious and plentiful, the garlic bread with tomato-garlic is fantastic. I had a specially prepared fish over a bed of spinach which was absolutely wonderful. I also had their penne arrabiata also spicy and excellent.
Poor weather so very quiet evening at Tesoro. I thought the food was good, not great. Service good. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Would go again, at least once more.
If someone wanted some quick Italian food, some of the specialties here would suit them quite well.
Wonderful food, great and fun service, good ambiance. Worth checking out!
This was our second visit to Tesoro and it did not disappoint. The owner/manager, Enrico met us at the door and welcomed us to a warm table (it was 20 degrees outside) where we waited for another couple. This was a birthday celebration, and the staff was great. They advised us on wine and the daily specials. Their Negroni cocktails are as good as any in Florence Italy. Delicious bread on the table. And don’t skip dessert....the tiramisu is worth every calorie.
It’s not a big restaurant, but homey. The food is fresh and the cook is willing to make adjustments. We have a problem with cream in the sauce, and the cook modified the sauce to a red sauce with no cream for our meal....perfect. We were there for 2 hours, and never felt rushed.
We went there on a Saturday night based on a Washington Post recommendation. The Post was right, good food, ambiance, and affordable. The pastas and breads were great as were there specialty drinks. I made the mistake of not getting pasta. I went for the shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp and vegetables were good, but I tasted my partner’ss pasta and it was amazing. The restaurant was also very accommodating on the sauce. My partner can not have a cream based sauce, and the restaurant was willing to make a change. Delicious. Also, don’t leave until you have their tiramisu...worth every calorie. Must be shared. We look forward to returning.
Birthday party for grandmother. Food was suboptimal and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Still service was very slow.
Tried to make up for lack of taste with larger portions.......food was flavourless and bland, though quantity was reasonable. Restaurant was busy, so maybe a good community place to eat??
Service was great. Pasta was just ok. Not seasoned at all.
This was terrible food. I should have walked out before I sat down. I was waiting for Chef Ramsey to walk in.
I reserved a table at 5 because we had tickets for a lecture at 7 at a nearby embassy; we were delayed by traffic and so got to Tesoro only about 5.30 (we had called to say we would be late). Despite our lateness, we were treated with grace and efficiency; the waiter was very knowledgeable and we both had satisfying meals within our time frame and got to our 7 pm lecture with time to spare. The menu is standard for an Italian restaurant, but the quality of the food and the efficiency of the service were really exemplary!
Tesoro has been in business for a decade or two, and while the food is still quite good, the ambiance and decor are badly in need of an update. The kitchen turns out reliably good Italian fare - fresh pasta with tasty sauces, great fish and veal dishes, and some terrific warm bread to start the meal. But Italian restaurants that have opened up in Washington in the past five years have surpassed it with more exciting and delicious foods, with far more enjoyable decors, so Tesoro has fallen behind the competition. Nothing bad to complain about, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to dine there. A solid, pleasant, reasonably priced neighborhood restaurant.
You can't beat the value: excellent, homemade Italian food for a very reasonable price. The ambiance is nothing to get excited about, but it's a great place to have a good conversation and chow down on good food.
The food was fantastic! There portions are very generous, you get definitely get your monies worth.
Terrific venue. Staff very friendly. Great Caesar salad.
Was our second time there and I believe it’s gone downhill. The space is very shabby, dark, and dingy and needs a cleaning and an overhaul badly. Service was fine, nothing special, nothing awful. The food was good enough, standard Italian-American fare, but it just felt flat. Being seated we had to look into the dirty kitchen was certainly no help. I would not go back again unless things changed considerably.
Food was inedible. Salad dressing tasted like it was from a bottle. Sautéed spinach was clearly thawed frozen spinach. Nothing seemed homemade or authentic.
Tesoro has great Italian food, great wine, fantastic deserts and espresso, a cozy and friendly atmosphere and is a great place to go with friends to have a good time.
What a great experience! We had no dinner plans for my birthday, so I did a quick search in my phone and we decided on Italian. The food quality was great, tasty, and served warm! The house appetizer was delicious marinated tomatoes with warm crusted bread. I am drooling as I type! LoL The staff was welcoming and engaging. My husband told the waitress it was my bday and they brought out a delicious dessert with a candle. The extra special part of the night they sang the birthday song to me and used my first name! They obtained my name from my openview reservation. How cool was that!!! We will be back and I recommend this restaurant to all!
Best Italian food I’ve ever had minus the food from Italy itself.
Tesoro was perfectly okay, though the service was a little odd. We were greeted indifferently and seemed to have three or four different waiters throughout our meal. The food was average or slightly below average Italian fare, and the dining room itself is a bit dingy. We recently moved to the neighborhood and wanted to give the place a try, but wouldn't come back.
Great, reliable restaurant
Food was good. Service started out fine but fell off as things went along. Seemed server forgot us and we need to get the attention of another server.
My friend and I had a lovely time. The wait staff was excellent , the food delicious and we were encouraged to sit and chat for as long as we liked. It was a wonderful birthday celebration for my friend We hope to go back to Tesoro in the near future.
Went with my wife and kids and had a fantastic time. The food was excellent (everything was delicious, and my son said he thought the calamari was the best he ever had) and the service friendly and prompt. Very reasonable prices, especially considering the quality of the food.
My friend and I went to Tesoro for lunch. We were greeted and seated by very courteous staff who helped us to our seats. The service was exceptional. Food served seemed to have been cooked after we ordered (steaming hot, which was most welcome). Throughout the meal the wait-staff continued to serve us most pleasantly. All tables were not taken. The ambiance was extremely appealing. We had a delightful time there. I've been to several restaurants in the DC area for many business lunches and special occasions and would rate this as the best!
take pride in food and excellent attentive service
Loved Tesoro! Food was amazing and will be definitely going back!
