Teske's Germania Restaurant
We went to Teske's twice on Friday to celebrate birthdays. They had a jazz band playing. Along with a full course meal (soup, salad, main entree and apple strudel), the ambiance and service was a perfect setting. I would recommend it to anyone.
Teste's service was outstanding with top notch meal. All five of us at the meal felt it was a restaurant we would definitely return to and recommend.
Great food and good service.
German recipes with American portion sizes. You'll take some home with you. :-)
The only noise was from my kids (sorry!)
Very, very cozy, gemuetlich, wonderful ambiance.
Almost like home. :-( I want to go back.
After a long span of time between visits to Teske's, we were so pleased with the experience. German cuisine has been very popular with my family and we've tried newer places north, but were excited to see the excellent menu and traditional atmosphere in full force at Teske's. The dinners are not only delicious, but a great value. Soup, salad, entree and dessert all value-priced, but quality was good, and dishes were very true to the homey cooking traditions. Potato pancakes were crisp. The soup and salad were ok, but certainly appreciated. Schnitzel was very good, and the strudel was a nice closer. Surprisingly no one felt overstuffed or heavy after the meal.
Another positive was the noise level - although busy, it was easy to have a conversation across a 6-top. So many newer restaurants have noise levels that drown out 'inside voices'. The ability to make reservations is also a huge plus.
We'll definitely be returning to Teske's. Thanks for keeping this San Jose institution true to its roots!
Incredibly wonderful German cuisine. Authentic and delicious!!!! Will be coming back
really autenthic German food in the bay. I can strongly recommend this place
Wonderful and attentive staff, excellent good, and a great atmosphere
Back seating area very muggy and loud , otherwise it was great service is fast!
Loved it! Great authentic food! Would definitely return!
We visited Teske’s Germania to celebrate my son’s birthday. Service was excellent, food was good, atmosphere was a bit noisy, but fun! Looking forward to returning when the beer garden opens in the warmer months
We look forward to going to Teske's when we are in San Jose and this time did not disappoint. Our dinner of schweinhaxn was done to perfection - tender juicy meat wrapped in crisp skin! We started with marinated herring in cream sauce - excellent! Gabi, our server, was knowledgeable of the evening's offerings and helpful in her descriptions. Wonderful service, great beer, and superb German food.
Great food. Buffalo meatloaf was exceptional. Bean soup wonderful. Great service from Cynthia.
Great spot before the Sharks game. Great food great atmosphere great service great everything
We have been to Teske's many times. The friends we were with, it was their first time. They loved it.
Delicious food ... we all ordered the Pepper Steak even though the other dishes passing by our table looked absolutely scrumptious. But the sauce on the steak is wonderful. Plus, you get soup, salad, and dessert. Drank Bitburger beer. Equally delicious. Teske's is The Best.
Friends’ 38th wedding anniversary
Room where we ate had bad lighting and decor. Wait staff was friendly but was unknowledgeable of the menu and beer on tap, which made decision-making difficult. Food was okay, but not worth the price. Bar looked cool so maybe our experience would have been better if we just had drinks.
Our waiter Danielle was alert and attentive. She did a great job. The food was good, but once again we forgot just how much food comes with a dinner and we made the mistake of ordering appetizers. This, combined with bathtub-sized beers, made finishing what we ordered a challenge. Our tween-aged son made a valiant effort, and got through most of his schnitzel. It might have helped that he did not have any beer. Teske's is a fun immersive experience that transports you straight to Germany.
Love this place, great food, service was awesome and enjoyed everything overall!
We were in town for the 2Cellos concert. So not knowing any local restaurants, we chose Open Table for possibilities. German cuisine was the group consensus. The restaurant is registered as a historical building. A dark, rich wood interior and a, presumably, original outstanding backbar (circa late 1800’s??) serves as the entrance into the two dining comfortably appointed rooms.
The hostess and wait staff were friendly, informative, and efficient. Overall we felt the food was above average and creative. It was served at an expected temperature and in a timely fashion. The only disappointment was a warmish, wilted salad served tossed in a watery odd-tasting dressing. The apple strudel was superb.
We were pleased and thus, recommend it to all diners.
Awesome service, food, and atmosphere. I’ve been here the past two years for Octoberfest and had a blast with my family. I went there tonight for a birthday dinner and everything was just as amazing. Great German food with good size portions. They were nice to put our birthday cake in the fridge and cut it/plate it for us! Can’t wait to go back!
Love this well established place. Cozy comfort food and great German bier. Ja! Alles schmeckt sehr gut!
Great food. Great service.
The wait staff was good, and considerate. However, for someone that has traveled to all parts of Germany, the food left a little to be desired. The sauerbraten here is served with a cream based gravy. In most restaurants in Germany, the gravy is a dark gravy. The sausages were either stringy or excessively spicy. The apple strudel was a disappointment compared to true German apple strudel.
Overall, we were under-impressed.
Out-of-town folks staying at a local park n fly hotel have dined here 3 times and absolutely love the food.
We had a fabulous experience! The owners were very engaged with the customers and offered great suggestions on entres and drinks! This is a special place.
Just going to keep this short because there's so many good reviews on this place. That was the main reason we tried it and we were not disappointed!
Great friendly service. Pork and veal schnieitzel was overcooked and tough.
The German food was excellent. We found out the the owners' father immigrated from Germany to the US via Canada. The staff was excellent. It is a very nice family run restaurant.
Excellent comfort food and a lot of it. Service is cheerful and efficient. Good value - four courses for reasonable bucks - Less than $30. Good beer but surprising lack of variety - in the dining room at least. Good for a date only if you want to have hearty food in a fun atmosphere. Not particularly romantic.
Have gone to Teske's periodically for a few decades. Has always been good and remains so. Seems more busy too, never used to get a reservation but seems like a good idea now.
We really enjoyed our meal and the service was great! I hadn't been there for a long time. I'll not wait so long the next time!
Food was delicious! We ordered 2 of the specials! Duck with ginger sauce. And grilled pork medallions. Both were the perfect amount of food. Dinners come with lentil soup, a salad, the main meal and apple strudel for dessert!
We had to take much of our meal to go as we had a ballet to attend.
Had delicious food to eat the next day!
Looking forward to returning!
The service was very perfect. The lady who took care of us was kind and smiling. The food is authentic German.
Very nice experience, warm friendly staff and very good food. The beer was pretty good too!
Amazing, authentic German food. A family favorite. The sharing plates are pretty substantial; the entrees are generously portioned.
We really enjoyed the German food and especially the beer selection. It was kind of quiet so we were very well served and it was a great experience. I will definitely be back.
Nice, cozy restaurant with a very pleasant staff, nice menu and a full meal offering (starting with soup, salad, main course, and dessert), and a great selection of German beer. Reservations are highly recommended as it is a popular dining place.
Tasty German cuisine in a cozy setting for a reasonable price that includes soup, salad, entree and dessert!! Many beer choices and a nice selection of wine and cocktails. Great experience worth repeating!!
