Terzo Piano, located on the 3rd floor of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, open for lunch daily and Sunday brunch. It features the signature cuisine of Chef Tony Mantuano, who has been delighting Chicagoans for years at the four-star Italian restaurant, Spiaggia. The food is all fresh, local, organic and sustainably produced. In season, you may also dine al fresco on the covered sculpture terrace, while enjoying spectacular views of Millennium Park and the Chicago skyline.
Terzo Piano is open to the public, without requiring admission to the Art Institute.
Guests may access the restaurant either via the Nichols Bridge which extends from Millennium Park to the restaurants entrance or via the Modern Wing entrance of the Art Institute at 159 E. Monroe St. and take the elevator, on the right side, to the third floor.
I would recommend it, however our server appeared hungover and failed to put in our flatbread appetizer order when we ordered it. By the time we realized it was not coming it was too late to order appetizers and we had moved on to our main dishes. We ordered several deserts and he forgot one which came later as he was not writing down our order. We had to ask for our cups to be filled with water several times. I also saw our server eating in the back while I was coming back from the restroom. The COFFEE was very good, although we expected the food to be better for the price.

Food was great and so was the attentive staff. Ate at an outside table
Friendly greeting, low-key, relaxing surroundings, service just a tad slow at times, great food.
The food was expensive for its quality. We were asked what we would like to drink as we sat down. We asked for tea. They arrived later than our food orders and only after we did ask for them three times.

Our serving staff has been notified on our daily meetings and we will ensure we give the best service in the future. We hope you give us another try on your next visit.
Eat on the patio when the weather is nice. Great food and people watching
Hi DowntownDiner, Thank you for your kind review! We look forward to having you for lunch again.
The setting on the terrace was perfect on a warm September day. The plates we ordered we excellent. Service was uneven as the room filled. Even the bread is a la carte making this restaurant expensive. The food and ambiance made it a great place for lunch with a good friend.
Hi MadelaineB, Thank you for the kind review! We look forward to serving you on your next Art Institute visit. Cheers!
It was my Mother’s birthday. The food was excellent. We started with the lobster and corn fritters. They came out promptly though the wine didn’t appear til midway through the appetizers.
We both had the trout. Delicious with 2 sauces and a salad. Best I’ve had in a long tIme.
Dessert was a delicious semi freddo that the waiter brought for the birthday treat.
Service was good not great. The pacing was terrible. It was at least a half hour between the starter and entrees.
The front staff was disorganized and a bit rude as there was confusion with our reservation.
I will return when I go to the Art institute just hoping the fix the bugs as it is very pricey for lunch.
Hi Falander, Thank you for taking the time to review Terzo Piano! We regret your service wasn't up to standard and have discussed your review with our staff. Rest assured we take reviews very seriously and we will make sure our team offers the best service moving forward. We hope to impress you on your next Art Institute visit.
Very nice place for lunch while visiting the art institute. The food was delicious and generous. The view is amazing.
Lovely day to be outdoors. Would be nice if they could find a way to have both seats of the deuces face the outside! Service was great. Crepes were terrific. Quiche was a little bland, but filling and crust were both nicely done. Lobster fritters were yummy.
We sat outside on the patio which was perfect. Food was delicious!
It was ok..service was very slow. Food was as expected from a Chef.convenient to the art museum so that is good
Delicious cuisine at Terzo Piano with wonderful city views. We dined outside on the terrace and enjoyed a late afternoon lunch. Friendly wait staff who kept an eye on us while we dined and took great care of us. We had a nice flatbread appetizer and the Salmon crudo which was exquisitely prepared and served fresh. Great fresh flavors from the chef here that go really well with a cocktail or crisp beer. Entrees were also fantastic. I had the eggplant 3 ways which was some of the best eggplant that I ever had. Fettuccini was also terrific, fresh and flavorful. One thing is that the portions are smaller which honestly is how we should eat our food. In this case it is quality over quantity and besides who wants to come to eat at a museum and stuff yourself? We really enjoyed our dining experience here and would highly recommend it if you plan your day this is a great place for a nice lunch..
Terzo Piano is a lovely restaurant for a visit before, after, or during your visit to the Art Institute. The menu is varied and creative as are the drinks. The dessert on the day we were there (a bourbon ice cream with bourbon peaches) was the highlight of the meal. We were very pleased that we were able to carry on a conversion without having to speak loudly or to ask the speaker "what?" every third sentence. Service was a bit slow and somewhat inattentive. Reservations are highly recommended.
The lobster salad was yummy.
The view, as always, spectacular.
I'd recommend Terzo Piano for its location. It used to be great for its food also, but the new menu is ho-hum. The salad I had was mediocre and the chicken on it was overcooked.
High quality food, service and cocktails! A must eat-at if you are going to AIC!
Great place, a favorite for brunch with friends then art.
This is the perfect place for Sunday Brunch! We dined there one of the last Sundays of summer and were fortunate enough to get a patio seat outdoors. The food was delicious, service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant for dining with friends.
Hi Kariok, Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to review Terzo Piano. We really appreciate positive reviews as our team works very hard to offer the best service and menu! We look forward to serving you again.
It was a beautiful day and we sat outside for lunch. Our food was delicious. Salmon crudo to start and then I had a flat bread. It was a lovely light meal before seeing the Manet exhibit.
Very interesting menu. A nice change from Panera corner bakery style lunch. Good if spend wine list. Outside but protected from the wind and sun. Service was slooooow but friendly.
Wonderful ambience (we were seated outside). Delicious, creative salads and nice little wine list. Excellent service. Will return for sure.
It was a perfect day to dine on the patio. The food was delicious and our server was excellent....I can think of nothing that would of enhanced our experience!
One of the most pleasant experiences ever in a restaurant and the best of many we have had at Terzo. We ate outside on a perfect day and had the Manet inspired cocktails and entrees. Our waiter was perfect. It was an out of the park home run experience. 🙃
Incredible view with food to match. Very attentive service. Overall
an experience as beautiful as the art in the museum.
Worst possible table, positioned directly adjacent to busy bussing station. The crashing of plates and silverware made it difficult to hold a conversation, and my view of the dirty dishes bins compromised my appetite.
We had a very pleasant lunch. The service was very attentive and the food was excellent. The menu is not lengthy, but this allows them to focus on these items and prepare them very well. The wine list is very well curated. There are a number of half-bottle options that are much appreciated at lunchtime.
this is my favorite lunch restaurant in the city. it is always open and airy and the atmosphere is fantastic. and the food is always great.
Amazing views & great food. Sit outside to enjoy all of it.
Very small portions and limited menu. Nice atmosphere vut overall 3 stars max.
Amazing lobster salad with friendly service and good wine. The space is light and airy and buzzy but not noisy.
Excellent food and wine with imaginative options. Also the views and convenience make this our destination every time we are at the Art Institute of Chicago.
What a fabulous lunch with an out-of-town friend and a fabulous way to show off our beautiful city!
We were very disappointed on our latest visit. The food was mediocre - really nothing special. Portions were very small. Usually we could at least count on the hamburger if nothing else appealed to us but that was gone. Poached chicken was OK but too much frisee and maybe 3 baby vegetables. Lobster was the same. Our child had more rigatoni pasta than the adult fettuccini order. Service was slow as our waiter was also the bartender. We often had to wait for attention while she made drinks. We have always loved coming here when we visit the Art Institute. Last time our meal was outstanding. I have since heard from friends that the management has changed and they had a similar recent experience. I doubt we will return unless I here things have changed again. Too many great restaurants in Chicago to spend this much money on a poor experience.

Always the best food and atmosphere . Enjoyed the outdoor seating
The terrace is perfect for a summer lunch. Food is good albeit price-y.
Birthday celebration for my sister. We had a great time.
Exceptionally friendly and just really pleasant staff.
Absolutely wonderful! Enjoyed the Sunday brunch with my brother and their wives after viewing the Manet exhibit. The selections were delicious and plentiful. Several of us enjoyed the tender steak and eggs. Enjoyed a variety of desserts too!! Incredible service. I eould highly reccomend it.
Nice outdoor seating. Limited menu options, especially vegetarian. Special Sunday brunch. Nice dining option while visiting art institute, also has a discount for members!
