Terrain Garden Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Terrain Garden Cafe never disappoints. I enjoyed a relaxed lunch and some fun shopping with my sister for her birthday. We experienced courteous, friendly service from the host desk to the wait staff to the servers. Our meals were savory and well-portioned. I usually visit during spring or summer when the overwhelming sea of green makes the dining area a paradise, but even in the dead of winter, it was a lovely, cozy experience.
Most favorite spot. The decor is gorgeous, atmosphere dreamy, and the food is really tasty (and they have great menu options, something for everyone). The fettuccini was amazing, as was the pork belly/brussells sprouts/scallops dish! And for drinks, the spritzers are out of this world. The honey pie (seasonal) was also delicious. 10/10 - would recommend this to everyone!
I brought my future daughter in law to have breakfast and although it was raining we had a great time. She enjoyed trying all the cheeses and the spritzers were fantastic. After we had breakfast we shopped and purchased a few plants. Expensive but a fun time for a special occasion
I have been coming here for many years and am sorry to say that I feel that the service and the food quality have been on a slow, steady decline over the years. I had the chicken liver toast, which was pretty good but I didn't care for the thick, soft toast with the chicken liver, I thought the honey and the nuts were too much as well. I think a good chicken liver pate should stand on its own and that one didn't fare well, even with all the support. My salad was bland. with the exception of the really yummy bits of blue cheese. Unfortunately, there were only like three little nuggets of it in the entire salad. And the thinly sliced delicata squash (the whole reason I ordered the salad to begin with) was raw and unpeeled. There are so many wonderful things that can be done with this squash, I was very disappointed. Finally, our server was extremely inattentive and pretty blasé when she did arrive. Nice, enough but, not what I have come to expect from Terrain.
Extremely drafty in the winter, dress warmly. Service could have been better as well as the food. The special wasn't so special and was a long wait for our food, hopefully it was a off night because the ambiance is special and it was packed which is great to see.
My husband and I came here for a brunch date. The atmosphere is so enchanting! I just wanted to wander and gaze at all of the displays and product. Our waitress misheard my husbands order and promptly fixed the mixup and actually comped his meal. Amazing service and atmosphere, will definitely return and recommend to friends.
I go to Terrain regularly. I often have good experiences there. Christopher waited on us. This is the second time I have had him as a server. He is very good at his job and nice to talk with. The atmosphere is nice. Especially as cold as it was outside. The places gives a nice feeling of Spring while you are eating. Certainly will continue to go back.
Disappointed ... our New Years Eve dinner here was not necessarily one of our better experiences.
While the artisanal cheese plate was a great lead-in, our entrees were not able to keep the pace. The Pork Chop was cold. Not warm .. cold. The Chop was cooked, so not any issue on food safety, but the dish obviously sat in the kitchen. The Scallops were fine ... but the accompanying "hunks" of pork belly took away from the dish --- a). not tasty and b). looked like slabs of fat. And the desert, though recommended, was not what we expected.
Terrain could do much better ... and has in the past. But they dropped the ball this time. It will be a while before we try again.
We are frequent diners at this very picturesque spot. Eclectic menu so check online before you go. BYOB is de riguer, and waitstaff happily brings appropriate barware, wine coolers, etc. Special decorations at holiday times are lovely. The restaurant is in a garden center so imagine what can be done with imagination and resources!
Before of after dining, be sure to look at items for sale in the shop ranging from elegant soaps and fragrances to tableware and linens, wool blankets and gloves, hats, mittens, boots, hand- and custom-made wreaths and arrangements, jewelry and more.
Gustatory and visual delights abound here.
This place absolutely excited me several months ago with the fall/winter dinner menu so I returned several times to eat here over the last few months. There were originally many stellar plates at the start of the season. Going back several times, I felt the exact same plates did not taste the same. Last time I went one was very disappointing and didn’t even have a similar flavor profile to the version I tasted a few months prior. A few entrees are very dry and need sauce or gravy.
The cheese plate and bread are always fun. Service is very pleasant. Some plates can be quite delicious and inspired. It is a bit of a shame that the food isn’t consistent and that there can also be some real misses on the entrees.
Love this place! Love their specialty drinks and food! It's a cute place for grabbing brunch/lunch with your SO or with friends. The burger is delicious and juicy! I love their hot chocolate, apple cider, and la Colombe coffee. We came on a snowy day, so it was perfect to warm up with their delicious hot chocolate. Their mushroom bisque was creamy and dense but also very delicious. We would definitely come back during better weather, since it was a trek to get to during a snowy day. I wish it was a bit closer to us, but still a wonderful place to dine.
I was extremely disappointed with our experience at Terrain. My husband and I were excited for our first date out since having our baby. We made a reservation and were seated in front of the door in the shop area which should not be a dining space,
First of all. There is only one big barn door so the freezing cold air came in every time someone came in. Shoppers were standing around us the whole time coming and going and waiting in line. Our server forgot about us after we ordered our meals and never asked us how it was. I am vegetarian and usually have a hard time finding an entree for me but we continue to come for the ambiance (which we completely lacked being in the shop and not in the greenhouse which we looked forward to). I ordered the fettuccini and was extremely disappointed. It was tiny portion for 22 dollars. And it lacked seasoning! It needed salt first of all and then could have used pepper garlic or anything to give it flavor. I could make a better pasta dish one handed in 5 minutes. And I’m not a chef. I usually never leave bad reviews in fact this is my first. However since this was a special occasion for us and I don’t know when we’ll get the chance to go out again I had to review. Big disappointment.
Decor is earthy, looks and smells green. The hanging lights at night were very pretty. Employees were warm and welcoming. Service was excellent. BYOB helped keep the bill reasonable. The food was not anything special. I would return for the atmosphere and warm welcome.
I am in love with Terrain! My daughter treated me to Terrain for my birthday lunch and it was such a wonderful experience! The garden atmosphere, delicious, flower pot baked bread, fragrant tea selections, flavorful mushroom soup and beautifully displayed cheese board helped to create a warm and memorable experience for my special birthday lunch!!
Terrain is my go-to restaurant, especially when I'm headed to Longwood Gardens. It makes for a really fun, beautiful outdoorsy kind of day. Terrain brings all of the majestic aspects of the garden into its scenic greenhouse space, with a hipster-approachable vibe from the servers. Make sure to try one of their specialty tea or coffee drinks or house made soda!
I would normally rave about the cafe, but this time it was less than stellar. The noise level inside the greenhouse made it impossible to converse comfortably. The cheese board was delicious, but the cheeses were too similar to one another and the veg curry was not very flavorful. The spritzers were not very fizzy. I ordered risotto which was just terrible. The rice was undercooked, the plate was just barely warm, and there were 2 giant pieces of garlic in it, one of which I bit into with my first bite. After that initial unpleasant bite, I assumed the rest would be tasty. It had no flavor aside from the pecorino. This was one of the absolute very few times I have ever sent a plate back to the chef; I recall one other time involved a bug. We also asked for a sample of the mushroom soup which had a unpleasant flavor that I did not recognize. Being a vegetarian left me only with the option for a salad (not interesting on a 20 degree day) or the omelette of which neither I wanted, but eventually opted for the omelette. The dressed greens were perfect, the potatoes were fine, and the omelette was sufficiently fluffy though nothing to really talk about otherwise. If you are going to charge $15- 21 for a brunch plate, it should be worth it. The french toast garnered clean plates from my children. My mom enjoyed the freebird chicken and quinoa. My final comment was the courtesy note with the bill, that essentially told us to "move on" once we finished eating. The waitstaff was wonderful, but she did not ask if we wanted desert or coffee before presenting the check. With the atmosphere and tab price at the cafe, it would be nice to be able to spend a few moments digesting and chatting without being guilted out the door.
Went for our one year wedding anniversary( were married AT TERRAIN) All of the food was super bland and extremely dry. My husband got the short rib and I ordered the scallops and pork belly. The scallop entree came with Brussels sprouts as the side and they were pretty much raw with also barely any flavor. The whole time we were there they didn’t not acknowledge once that it was our anniversary when we specifically notated that it was when booking our reservation. The server was nice and so was the hostess, but that was about it. We are super upset with how the dinner experience turned out since we had such an amazing experience for our wedding. Probably won’t be back which is a bummer. We were planning on making it a tradition for our anniversary.
We go to Terrain every year around the holidays and it has become a beautiful tradition. We love the decor of the store, and eating in the greenhouse. The food never disappoints and we particularly love the bread baked in a pot! We will continue to go back.
2 moms, 2 daughters out for a lunch date. This was our first visit and it did not disappoint. From the adorable shop and homey decor to our delicious food. The cheese plate was plenty for the four of us. The selection of cheese was yummy. It was helpful having our server explain the different types of cheese. My quinoa and cauliflower salad was good, a little light on the cauliflower but tasty nonetheless. I added shrimp for a little extra protein. The omelet that my daughter had was plentiful, served with potatoes and salad. Our friends both enjoyed the French toast- what’s not to love with apples and nuts on it. It looked scrumptious and our friends agreed. Our server was attentive. We were a little surprised when the check arrived- it was pricey but hey, you get what you pay for. In this case great ambiance, great food, and most importantly great company.
