TerraCotta Wine Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Imaginative, well-crafted meals. I've been twice and can highly recommend the beef tenderloin and the fried chicken. I wasn't fond of the collard greens that came with the chicken, but the rest of the meal made up for it. My husband had salmon and it was prepared just the way he likes it...medium rare. Try the skillet chocolate chip cookie for dessert! The wine list isn't huge, but is complete.
Every time I am in Santa Fe I return to this wonderfully friendly restaurant located in a charming and historic building. This particular visit I was alone and sat in the lively bar area and it didn't take long to meet others and have a fun evening of conversation with others who are both locals and tourists. It is obvious this is a locals gem of a restaurant...many folks knew each other.
The whole staff are well trained, very accommodating, attentive and helpful....especially when wading through the pages of available wines. And the prices for wine are very reasonable...especially the $6 for glasses of wine before 6 pm. I have enjoyed many different dishes at Terra Cotta...they have their classics including the best French Onion soup I have ever eaten, wonderful selection of appetizers and Mezza Plates, great variety of salads, and delicious main courses including salmon, fried chicken, perfect tenderloin steaks, and vegetarian selections. Something for everyone. They also offer seasonal dishes .... currently their Fall selection included some good comfort food...I really enjoyed the chicken pot pie....followed by a warm apple tart.
The owners (Chef Catherine and Glenda) were onsite the night I went and greeted the customers and made an effort to ensure folks were happy. Combining a great location, quality staff, yummy food, and real value pricing, I highly recommend a visit to Terra Cotta.
Lovely spot close to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum. The rolls were warm, the Sea Bass tender juicy but the potatoes and veggies were without flavor. Theirs could be remedied with just a little extra effort and the attention to the details of the meal. Has potential to be very good.
We were in Santa Fe for the weekend and wanted a casual, upscale, moderately priced dinner. This was the perfect place. Food and service were both outstanding. Staff is friendly and the food choices are varied if you're looking for a break from a typical southwestern menu.
Terra Cotta is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. It's great for lunch and dinner. The food and service are consistently good and the atmosphere is intimate & cozy. Some of my favorites are the salmon with mustard & brown sugar glaze, the ahi tuna salad, and the bruschetta, which is a meal all by itself. Catherine, the chef, often comes out and visits with the guests and will try to accommodate special requests. I can't eat onions, and this is just about the only restaurant in Santa Fe that has lots of choices that don't include onions or chile. Hooray!
Creative dishes like Chicken Pot Pie served in a cast iron skillet. Excellent wine selection both by the glass and bottle.
My husband ordered the beef tenderloin and was disappointed at its toughness. He immediately spoke to our waitress who took the whole dish away. At my husband’s OK, the chef prepared another meal for him in record time. This one was excellent. For “his trouble”, the waitress brought him a complimentary dessert of his choosing. She was very concerned that we were happy with our food.
Imaginative comfort food. Cozy environment. Friendly staff and ownership. The chef stopped to visit with patrons. The salads are off the chart. Then, the entres match with quality. The wine is outstanding and the pricing is fair. This was our first visit and Terra Cotta has made our favorites list.
We were so pleased with our first meal at TerraCotta that we booked a second evening during our recent visit to Santa Fe. They have a wonderful selection of wines with happy hour special pricing before 6:00 p.m. And the menu selections are creative and delicious. The atmosphere is laid back and intimate - you will be sitting very close to other diners but that's not much of an issue. It just means you are sharing the space with other folks who enjoy good wine and food!
A friend and I enjoyed a very nice dinner. We both selected from the Fall Prix Fixe menu. The tomato basil soup, with apple, was some of the best soup I've ever had. The chicken pot pie was both tasty and comforting, with so much it made a second meal at home. We finished off our dinner sharing an order of the warm apple tart with cinnamon ice cream and the carrot cake - both delicious. A lovely glass of Charles Krug cabernet sauvignon was the perfect accompaniment. Just wish the noise level had been a tad less, but with two large parties on either side of us that was not to be.
My husband and I were looking for a more eclectic restaurant than Santa Fe usually offers (spouse does not care for southwestern flavors/spices). We visited on a Saturday. I had made reservations via opentable and we were seated right at the entrance in what was a very long window booth with three tables fairly close to one another. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. The menu indicates that they do not provide bread or water except by request FYI. The menu offered a lot of variety and several vegetarian choices. My spouse got the chicken pot pie (prix fixe with soup and dessert) and I got a mustard salmon dish. The french onion soup was exceptional, and they brought him a bowl by request and did not charge extra. We both enjoyed our entrees, I will say I thought mine was more "special" than his, with a delicious mustard sauce and grilled polenta. Both of us cleaned our plates, with portions generous but not insanely huge. The one slight disappointment was the dessert of apple tart, which was described as warm but came straight from the refrigerator. It was good, but not remarkable.
One note about seating. We were exhausted after a day in Taos and were fairly quiet. The seating was rather close together and we could clearly hear conversations from the table next to ours AND the table next to them. They were interesting people (isn't everyone in santa fe?) and while we enjoyed the guilty pleasure of overhearing their light, impersonal conversations about travel, it might not be the place to sit if you want to talk personal or private business. The other rooms seemed to have more spaced apart seating.
The food was delicious and more reasonable than many of the other places we went. While I'm sure it is known for its huge wine list, we didn't partake so I can't comment on that.
We were on vacation in Santa Fe and found this wonderful restaurant on the internet. Could not have been more perfect. If you get there before 6pm they have a happy hour that lets you select from a list of many many great wines by the glass for just 6$ a glass.
It has the best wine selection we had seen from our trip through the Southwest. And that should not take away from the food that was creative and delicious .
A lovely gem of a bistro across the street from Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe.
In a nutshell, this dining experience was as close to perfect as any that I have experienced. The only down side was my choice in tables! The menu was creative and our meals were properly prepared and delivered. The wine list was well done and reasonably priced. Service was pleasant, attentive but not overbearing. Thank you Terra Cotta!
This was my second visit to Terra Cotta. I returned because of the wonderful food, extensive wine list, and the atmosphere of cozy dining in an old home. I had the fire-roasted red pepper stuffed with quinoa, carrots, and chickpeas, and topped with preserved lemon coulis, served with roasted vegetables. I will be back again on a future visit to Santa Fe.
We were on vacation in Santa FE, NM and looking for a menu that offered meat and vegan options and assorted salads with wine options in the mix. Our dishes, fish entree and New Mexican flank steak on a field of greens were "requisimo." We were so impressed that we chose to dine again on our last day in SF;-). We will return and the proprietors, Catherine and Glenda will welcome U with their southwest charm!
We had a fantastic meal and got to bask in the attention of the proprietresses who regularly check in on you with genuine concern and lively conversation as to making sure your total experience at Terra Cotta is exceptional. It was and has always been... Exceptional. Cheers!
