Terrace Cafe and Veranda Bar - Best Western El Rancho Inn Ratings and Reviews
We have been coming here for years traveling. They had a mbeet salad that was awesome, it is still on the menu here on open table but they no longer serve it, bummer. They had almost no one in the restaurant, they were out of some things, and the service wasnt the best, but they made every effort to make us happy. I hope they put my beet salad back! We are here several times a year for travel!
The waiter was awesome (did not write down his name) on Friday, 2/17. He was attentive but not intrusive and had a great attitude and fun sense of humor. I had to return my beverage (which is something I have rarely done), as I did not care for the taste, and he did everything to assure me that it was no problem and make it right. Just wonderful service! It is a great setting for having a relaxed conversation without having to shout over the noise level like so many other places. They also have some booths, which is somewhat of a rarity these days. Food was great and prices were reasonable. Definitely will be back!
I ordered the beet salad, which was a combination of roasted beets, raw beets & beet chips on a bed of lettuce with dressing. It was quite good, and not overdressed. Next, I had butternut squash ravioli served with brown sage butter. The pasta was a bit overcooked (I prefer al dente), and the brown sage butter was broken. I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir which was good enough for a 2nd glass.
The waiter was nice & attentive. The atmosphere was quiet. The restaurant was hard to find. I had mapping software take me so far, and then I phoned the restaurant to help guide me the rest of the way. The guy on the phone couldn't have been nicer.
I would definitely come back, but would steer clear of the pasta. I'm guessing the other dishes would have been better based on other reviews.
The Flatiron steak was cooked to order perfectly and was delicious. Since it was a birthday celebration, the scrumptious creme brûlée was brought with birthday candles! The servers made a point of serving all five entrees at the same time. How many restaurants do that with mixed orders? We will be back.
We had a table for 11, and part of our group was late, so we waited outside on the deck and notified the staff. Everyone was perfectly fine with that arrangement. Mom thought that some of the plates were skimpy. Unfortunately hers was not and she does not have a big appetite.
I was fine with my dinner, but also knew there would be cake and coffee later, so I saved room for it.
The only thing that was most annoying was the maitre d who seated us directly next to another couple even tho the restaurant had only a handful of customers and most were in their way out. When I asked if he could space us further away, he said that he couldn't since they had had a busy night and the other tables seated four instead of two. Wrong on both counts as anyone with two eyes could clearly see. Everything else was fine but he put a real damper on the entire dining experience. Don't think I'll try that place again.
Our server, Ricky was very personable and quite courteous. He knew the menu and made great suggestions. Substitutions were not a problem. The food arrived beautifully presented and hot. The selection of wines was adequate and not pricey. It is a great place for dinner: cozy, quiet, attentive and tasty. I would return in a minute. The crab cake appetizer is wonderful as was the scallop and prawn dish.
Terrace Cafe is attached to El Rancho Best Western Hotel near the San Francisco airport. It was a stopover for us, and we weren't sure what we'd do for dinner. We didn't have time to find our way into the city of San Francisco. We opted to eat at the hotel...and were VERY pleasantly surprised. The bar was comfortable, the bartender friendly, and he knew how to make my favorite drink! (Unusual ingredient...which he had on hand!) We elected to eat at the bar since we were enjoying ourselves there. The food...outstanding!! A small pizza, nicely done, and a French Dip sandwich. Outrageous!! Great house made fries, fresh bread...everything delicious, and fairly priced. Wish we had a place like this back home!
Our party of seven women were thoroughly amazed at the delicious meal we enjoyed at
the El Rancho Inn, Terrace Cafe. I especially enjoyed the beet salad! The atmosphere is
average, but don't let that fool you. Nice place to eat/drink while lodging right there!
This was our first time at The Terrace Cafe - Enjoyed the Veranda Bar - so cozy. Our dinner was exceptional as was the service. Afterwards, we went to the Director's office to book a family gathering for December. He was most gracious and helpful. Looking forward to many more visits to The Terrace Cafe and Veranda Bar...This is really a neighborhood gem.
This is the restaurant for a Best Western Plus, which is not where I'd expect to find good food. But my wife and I enjoyed our dinner there. The food might be described as foodie-updated traditional. So the vegetables are fresh and the sauces aren't the standards of (say) the 1960s. Plus the staff was very attentive and helpful, and they certainly seemed to actually enjoy working there.
This isn't somewhere I'd drive out of my way to go to, but if I was in the neighborhood, I'd certainly dine here again. The only negative (of sorts) is that the wine list is quite limited (but not particularly expensive).
We chose to eat at the bar, as we do, 90 percent of the time when we eat out. We were told that it was fine and that we were welcome to have our dinner there.
Big mistake at this place!!
We have never had such poor service !!!
The bartender, who was not overly busy did nothing to serve us. By the time our food came we did not even have utensils, let alone bread, s&p, etc. His lack of service continued throught the meal.
We are locals and have been to meetings and catered events at this restaurant, and wanted to try it for dinner. I don't think we will return.
The terrace restaurant was an ideal venue for our evening meal when we stopped one night at Best Western El Ranchero Inn before a return flight to Orlando. We enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent. We live in England so not likely to be back in wonderful San Francisco any time soon!
We had a group of 5. Everyone enjoyed they meals. Two of the diners had their room at the El Rancho. After driving from southern California, they were pleased to a fabulous restaurant within a close walking distance for their room. It took the rest of us only a few minutes (about maybe 30) to make the drive down from San Francisco. Also the menu, which I know you change now and then had some great choices. Actually we all picked out different entrees. Nice quiet dining room. No complaints!
