Terra Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We have dined here off and on over the years since (maybe ?) 1981. It’s a lovely restaurant. The menu had been updated and maybe not quite as eclectic as it was some years ago. The wait staff was very attentive but not intrusive. The food quality was excellent and portion size satisfying. I love that they are on open table which makes reservations so easy!
We were trying to sample restaurants new to us on our Vail holiday. Terra got good ratings so we gave it a shot.
The ambiance is just OK. I suppose part of the reason is that it’s located in a condo building, so entering is like entering a condo lobby.
The menu is well rounded. The food was fine but we felt the chef was a little too cute, for example, square tater tots accompanying ahi tuna. Unfortunately, the sautéed Aisian veggies, that also came with the tuna, were a little bit burned. My partner had a trout dish which sported some sort of breading; he found it tasty but it was too heavy for me. The chocolate cake dessert was adequate but a bit dry. The portions are large and the service was good.
The prices are higher than we pay at home (Philadelphia) in some much finer restaurants— I guess this is “resort pricing.” Overall, we were not very impressed.
When something is highly touted-as was this restaurant-expectations are raised and one would expect a better than average dining experience. Never mind that we were seated 20 minutes after our reservation-it’s a busy week and we were fine having a drink at the bar. But to wait over 1 hour after being seated for our food to arrive is unacceptable, especially when the food was no better than mediocre . I ordered tha wagyu steak for $75. The steak was average for non-wagyu beef-but for the price was very disappointing. We also had the butternut squash ravioli which was not particularly flavorful and a little stiff-maybe it sat around for a while before being served. Nothing we ordered was even above average. The waiter was very apologetic and even brought over the manager to ask if there was anything else they could offer. I would request that they not allow anyone else to wait that long to be served and that they up their game in regard to the quality of their food. Or maybe it was just a below average night for all.
There was a piece of plastic on my plate and the staff, instead of apologizing and replacing the dish, decided to insult our intelligence and say it wasn't plastic. This place used to be delicious. Theyve changed the menu for the worse and deny wrongdoing when there is a huge piece of burnt plastic on the plate.
We were there for Thanksgiving Dinner. When we made the reservation no mention was made that this was buffet only. All three of us became VERY ill within hours that night. The next day we called the restaurant and told the manager how ill we became after dinner. Her reply was “it wasn’t our food!”
Hope this was just an off night as this restaurant is one of our staples. Service was extremely poor ( a waiter can at least pretend to like their job) and horribly slow. Food was only marginal - filets undercooked (almost raw) , shishitos undercooked and inedible. Such a disappointment for a normally excellent dining experience. We won’t be in a rush to rebook.
As always a wonderful meal. We had appetizers, entrees and desert -all were excellent. Our waitress, Katie from North Carolina, went above and beyond to deliver great service with a huge smile! Ask for a table in the round alcove if you want a more intimate atmosphere.
We were celebrating our son’s Birthday, I called them prior to make sure they have candles & they said that they do...
We ordered food & my food came out with the Hair on my Kale, they brought me another plate portion was slightly smaller & it had yellow pieces of kale on my plate!
Service was terrible, not friendly at all!!!!!
At the end they brought the desert & left no Candles on it.... my husband had to get up & find a person to get candles...
It was too late to leave since we had a special occasion we didn’t want to spoil it...
Will never go back!!! Won’t recommend this place to anyone
There are better restaurants in Vail , like Sweet Basil!!!
