The Japanese word ten can mean "heaven", "above" or "celebration" and the dining experience at TEN modern Japanese restaurant is all of these things.

TEN approaches traditional Japanese dishes as if they were works of modern art. The superior ingredients are the building blocks of inspiration and the plates are crafted to please both the palate and the eye. Superior products are used and the seafood arrives daily from fishing auctions in Japan and Hawaii. Beyond the incredibly fresh sushi, the menu features a variety of hot and cold ala carte items and offers choices for vegetarians as well as non-seafood eaters.

Ten also features an extensive wine list, and specialty cocktails using unique ingredients such as the "Ten" which is comprised of sake, vodka and aloe juice.

Always a pleasure. Great staff, great kitchen and an all around great experience.

Delicious food. The avocado tempura and beef skewers are especially outstanding. Sharing orders is fun, but be careful. If it is your first time you will be tempted to over order.

I was really ready for a big time dining experience. I was, sadly, not all that impressed. The food was really excellent, but there was some confusion about our order, we got something we did not order, but were not charged, then what we actually had ordered finally came....TWICE. I do not feel that I got good value for the high price of the meal. All food was good, but can get something about the same for half the price a lot of other places.

Dave was the host and server. He is t he best! As is your female chef who’s name escapes me. Amazing oysters and the best cooked eggs. Bloody Mary’s also on point.

We enjoyed the pace and presentation of sushi from a nicely rounded list of choices. The sake list is well thought out as well.

Very good food and service, price was a little bit on the high side, but for a restaurant that imports fish in from around the world three times a week, it has a very reasonable price, would definitely eat there again

Food amazing but becauSe we had a big table the waiter didn’t care about being nice to us because he got 20% Included tip. We ended up being there for almost 3 hours, it was absurdly slow.

Fantastic Japanese food, excellent sake pairing. The server was knowledgeable and attentive to our party of 8, and food was quick despite our table size. The sashimi was fantastically fresh and as high quality as the server had assured us, and the nigiri was both fresh AND inventive - the jalapeño on one and tiny drizzle of chili sauce on another were a fantastic new way to bring a hint of heat to the fish. Feels very distant from the downtown mall, very modern, and perfectly posh. That may be why it’s less packed than other places, as the cool sophistication isn’t very Charlottesville, but I’m glad it’s here all the same.

Over priced. Food was very good but not worth the high prices.

Absolutely love this place. The rainbow roll is my favorite. Goes great with the lychee martini. Great date spot

We were there for our anniversary, and I'd left a note in advance on the reservation remarks via OpenTable to write 'happy anniversary' on the dessert that I was going to order during my meal to surprise my fiancée. Unfortunately, there was no note on the cake I ordered, nor did our server wish us 'happy anniversary', nor did they do anything special. When I asked our waiter about my request while my fiancee was in the ladies, he said he saw the remark but the plate wasn't big enough to write a note....... and eventually still did nothing for service recovery. The restaurant could honestly have given me a call if they couldn't do it, or work with each other to make it a special moment for us, but they failed. While the food was decent, we were disappointed.

Fresh, innovative food in reasonable portions with a waitress both knowledgeable and highly personable...all combined for a memorable meal.

We were excited to visit the restaurant but were pretty underwhelmed. Service took a long time and while I don’t care if others eat meat she was pretty snarky about me being a vegetarian. Food arrived after 30 mins it was alright, basic.

We went for dinner on our anniversary. The hostess staff was fantastic. They quickly had us seated and even gave us an option of table or both. The food was delicious and well presented. However our waiter was less then stellar. We asked for the saki menu to order a bottle with our dinner and he didn’t show up to take the order till we were almost done with our food. He was apologetic but that didn’t change his behavior. We waited on everything. Also we shared with staff when making the reservation that it was our anniversary and there was no mention of it. That isn’t a make or break for us but it’s always a nice touch of a restaurant even mentions it.
