Tempo Restaurant - Alexandria Ratings and Reviews
We went here for the Valentine's Day Prix Fixe event being provided - a four course meal with some really intriguing options available. Upon sitting down (we were squeezed into a small corner table with no room to move the chairs out), it took about 5 minutes before a server came to immediately gather our order, no introduction or suggestions as to his favorites. We ordered a bottle of wine and our chosen four courses. The bottle of wine was expertly presented by a different individual and small pours were provided to each of us. That was the last time anyone poured for us, as no one stopped at our table until the end of the meal. All four courses, while delicious, were brought out in such rapid succession, we were rarely even finished with one before the next was being set down. After about 45 minutes of being there, our dessert was brought out to us and we couldn't even think to eat it because we had not had any time to digest the prior three courses yet. We were trying to slow down and enjoy our wine, only to be rushed by the original server who wanted to present the check. When I presented a gift certificate we had received, we were immediately told "I won't honor that tonight." There were three black out dates on the voucher (Christmas, New Year's and Mother's Day) and no information on the menu or website saying no certificates. After trying to argue with us, he finally accepted it and after applying it to the check, sped past our table throwing the check in the middle and saying "Goodnight." He never came back for payment, we had to get the manager to complete the payment. Overall, terrible experience for an establishment attempting to be fine dining with high prices. When you have horrible service the way we did and are rushed through a meal costing over $200, there's no reason to recommend this to anyone for anything.
The food and service were very good. But the noise level was so high that we could not have any significant conversation. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to talk with his or her companion(s) over dinner. If you're not on speaking terms, it would be fine.
Tempo has to be one one the best restaurants in Alexandria. We eat out often in very good restaurants and are now delighted to include Tempo on our list of regular dining spots. Food was delicious and well prepared, service was without being but intrusive, and the interior of the restaurant beautifully decorated with original artwork. Featured "flavor" was cherry, and the cherry vodka martini was perfect. Don't be put off by the Duke Street location or surrounding commercial/apartments. There is excellent reason why Tempo has been here since the early 90s!
Extensive menu, delicious food, best Caesar salad I have had in ages, the grouper with scallops was sensational! And an impressive dessert selection. There were four of us and everyone of us was very pleased with our meal. Also, very attentive, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere. This is a dining gem not to be missed!!! We are already making plans to return.
This has been one of our favorite spots for more than 20 years. Upscale without being pretentious, great food, modern decor that maintains and old-country ambience, friendly and attentive staff that feel like family. Lively without being noisy. And oh yes, the food is excellent (northern Italian with some French influence) -- fresh ingredients, well prepared, and appealing presentations that, again, stop short of being pretentious. Good choice for special occasion or a family meal.
So nice to return could not have been better. On the service they forgot to offer fresh ground pepper with the salad. All so very warm and friendly dessert tray to die for. Liked the fixed price menu for New Year special dinner. My hats off to the owners. Keep up the good work. Please do not sacrifice quality for quantity. The food portions were PERFECT. See you soon again.
Had a wonderful time with my companion celebrating her birthday. I chose this restaurant without any recommendation and was glad I did. The ambiance was airy and light with the wall filled with art works from local artist(s). The setting was roomy even though the place was quite full when we arrived for our Saturday, 7 PM reservation.
We ordered from that day's menu offerings and was happy with our choices, especially the scallops ceviche . Having had ceviche made with white fish(cod, talapia, etc.), this was a wonderful take on an old favorite. The sliced scallops were mouth watering and melted away while imparting the tangy flavors of the ceviche mix. Our main courses were split between the mountain trout and the salmon. Each offering was light with subtle flavors that allowed the portions of fish to shine. An accompanying mixed vegetable medley was excellent except for the so called baby carrots. An more apt compliment to the medley would have been sliced or julienne carrots . A large selection for desserts yielded fresh berries and carrot cake. A good selection of wines made a wonderful evening. Whether celebrating a special occasion or just seeking fine food in a pleasant atmosphere, I gladly recommend Tempo .
The food is of good variety and excellently prepared and presented. The price is moderately expensive, but worth it. Only limitation was the shortage of staff, resulting in long delays between dinner and dessert and lack of opportunity to ask for additional wine or service. The waiters were pleasant and courteous but too few for the full house.
Someone in a facebook group recommended Tempo. It was really awesome. Only 2 things I would complain about, would be the price. It's a little pricey for me, but for a special occasion it's ok. Also with the entree's you don't get a salad or anything, which would be nice. But the dinner portions are perfect.
The staff were all very attentive, the food was great. It is a small restaurant, but the noise level was very low, so I could easily have a conversation. I think we were the youngest people there (in our 30's), and for a Friday night that surprised me., but that's not a turn off because the food was really good.
Had another enjoyable dinner at Tempo this Wednesday evening. The special salad of white beans and shrimp with fresh basil was SO tasty! We also enjoyed our entrees, which included two versions of veal scallopini and the trout - all cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned. There was a great dessert selection as well, and we enjoyed a slice of chocolate cake, an apple galette, and a sweet potato cobbler.
It has been several years since we were last at Tempo, but my husband and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner there last weekend. The host seated us in a quiet spot by the window. There were so many options on the menu that looked delicious, it was hard to decide what to order! But my seafood special and his veal from the menu were both delicious. The service staff was welcoming and professional. I promise we'll be back soon!
We dine here 5-6 times a year, and it is always a pleasure. Excellent cooking with a varied menu, including a long list of specials. They do superb jobs with fish, veal, and chicken, as well as pasta. Generally not noisy, so conversation is easy. Service is very good, attentive without being obtrusive. And convenient, free parking!
Nice menu and helpful service. Restaurant is nice on the inside, and the food is very good quality. I had a generous portion for an appetizer, and the Poulet Printemps was very well done, lots of veggies and well-cooked. I enjoyed the meal quite a bit- very reasonably priced for lunch.
