Tempo Restaurant - Alexandria
New york strip steak, black pepper and whole seed mustard
Cured salmon with dill
Lamb chops were grilled perfectly and very tasty. The blueberry tart is a delicious dessert. All accompanied by outstanding service and attention to detail. Tempo is a delight!!
Back after over a year and the food is just as good as it was before the pandemic show or shut down. The fish is always fresh and tender. Great job, Tempo!!
Tempo is always terrific. We had a Father’s Day dinner for 4, we each got a different fish on the specials menu, and we all loved our meals. We go there regularly and would highly recommend.
Excellent veal dish special 2 for $55 with a bottle of wine and dessert on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Always great food and service. It’s a “go-to” restaurant.
Everything was amazing! We’ve been really sad since our favorite Italian restaurant closed earlier this year and we’ve dined at some pretty disappointing Italian places around Alexandria, but this place did not disappoint! We took advantage of the dinner for 2 menu that they offer on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Everything was full of flavor, the wine was good, the bread was warm, and the desserts all sounded amazing! The dining room was full of customers [at socially distanced tables] and it reminded me of going out to country clubs with my grandmother (all good memories.) The clientele is mature and and everyone was well dressed and appeared to be enjoying themselves which is always a nice environment to be a part of. It’s a very nice romantic date spot and we intend to dine again soon.
It's always a pleasure to eat at Tempo. It doesn't look like much from the street, but it is truly a neighborhood gem. This was our "break out of covid isolation" dinner and it was worth the wait! The food is delicious and we were well cared for with all of the precautions. Can't wait to go back many times !
We were day in the corner and forgotten about
Started with the oysters and mussels and moved on to the fish and closed with chocolate mousse. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We arrived at 5:30 to find the place empty. It soon filled up. Everyone was appropriately spaced from each other.
Their sign on the road declares “Innovative French and Italian”
Red Flag #1: the menu has more options than seems possible to successfully execute.
Red Flag #2: the Specials Menu, which was printed and dated, had at least 15 MORE items listed.
Red Flag #3: the wine list is a 3 ring binder with nonspecific, whimsical descriptions of each wine while providing no vintage information.
With only 2 other tables in the restaurant the service was eager and friendly. The ball quickly dropped when I asked about 3 wines (a Barolo, a St Emilion Grand Cru and a Du Pape) all $58 - which is more or less retail - not restaurant - pricing. The waiter, after 10 minutes, did eventually return..with a bottle of generic Bordeaux and a Cote du Rhone. A 2015 Chianti Classico was eventually opened and enjoyed.
The bread - which was more “Dinner Rolls” from a random grocery store - was stale and inedible.
Everything was more sauce (which I suspect is canned and/or frozen, and or Sysco) than actual protein - the Veal was about 1mm thick sitting in 5cm of sauce.
Cognac was served in a hot, fresh from the dishwasher, glass.
At 8:30 the entire crew was sitting 3 tables away with heads on arms and looking annoyed at us.
he men’s bathroom is right next to the office, which had its door wide open a and person sitting just inside. The distance from the toilet to the person sitting was less than 15’. Whomever was in that office could had been hospitable and closed the office door. Awkward.
As was the entire experience.
Lovely neighborhood Italian restaurant with an ample menu and very, very good food! Definitely repeatable.
Chef's specials are very good--fresh entrees with tasty homemade sauces. Enjoyed oysters Rockefeller and veal with rosemary. Service is consistently good. Highly recommend.
Always a superb meal. This is a true hidden gem that is worth going to.
If you have a food allergy, Tempo is not accommodating. It clearly states on their menu to let them know if you have an allergy - which I did. I was still served a meal I could not eat. When I asked the person who took my order, she said, “sorry about that,” then walked away; no offer to fix it, offer me an alternative or reduce my check. I paid $24.00 and all I could eat was a side of fruit, because dairy was in the entree and accompanying side. This is egregious for a restaurant in 2021 to not better serve their customers with health related food allergies.
Tempo did play it safe concerning the virus. There was four of us and it was everyones first time out. At no time were any of us concerned about our safety. The food was as good as it was a year ago.
Tempo is definitely a hidden gem within the city of Alexandria. We went to celebrate my birthday and I was not disappointed. Great food, friendly staff and a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Always a delicious meal at a very reasonable price comparable to the high level of service and quality of food. Recommend the Cherry Manhattans!
I love this restaurant. They have a diverse menu, the food is always delicious and the staff is outstanding. You definitely get your money's worth at Tempo. I highly recommend it.
This is our favorite restaurant in Alexandria. Food is always outstanding!
We've been to Tempo twice now and each time the food was delicious. They have an extensive menu with a lot of weekly specials. They also take all necessary precautions to keep their patrons safe during Covid-19!
Tempo is a jewel and has been a favorite of ours for 18 years. The food is fabulous and the service is perfect. It reminds me of a fine place in Europe.
Food was outstanding Li g but service was a little slow and our meal came out before our soup.
I feel like this place should be on Kitchen Nightmares. Our reservation was on Valentines days so I will give the Benefit of the doubt on that. The food and wine was good. The plating and presentation could have been better. My over all concern is the service. Maybe they were sort staffed tonight but there was only one person for the hostess and serving. We were there for over 2 hours. (6-8pm ish) our server came around just the one initial time to take our order then we had to ask 4 different people for the check after we noticed she didn’t come back around. Another table near us got up and left since no one served them. I actually had to get up and walk to the front to ask again for a check and pay.
Excellent dining with a service that makes you feel valued. I definitely recommend the Rockefeller oysters.
Always a delicious meal and a very high level of service
A superb dining experience with abundant social distancing.
For years the Tempo Restaurant has provided high quality Continental type cuisine at reasonable prices, and it continues to do so during this pandemic crisis. It serves outstanding fish dishes, such as sole almandine, snapper, mahi mahi, trout and salmon prepared with delicious sauces/toppings, outstanding veal, chicken and beef dishes, lamb chops with shallots and a wine sauce, and tasty pastas, such as a seafood linguini or rigatoni puttanesca. They have the best oysters Rockefeller I have ever eaten, warm/crispy rolls with fresh butter, and wonderful desserts....try the key lime pie or the carrot cake. Nothing you order here will ever disappoint. It is a particularly nice place to go for special occasions....birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions. You can order all this fine food to eat in or to take home.
Because Tempo adheres to proper Covid protocals, it helps us to support our "go-to" restaurant. The experience is always wonderful there, and we always come home well satisfied.
We were there for a lunch. The food was very good. Resembled some restaurants i have been to in Roma area.
Tempo is an underrated gem. Chef prepared seafood and Italian/French food at affordable prices. Oysters Rockefeller were tasty. Recommend trying during Restaurant Week. You will be back if you do.
Easy parking. Nice variety of entrees. Well placed social distancing. Figure out a better way to separate the dine-in people from the carry-out patrons. We were all standing in one small area waiting.
Excellent food, as usual. Loved the oysters Rockefeller and a veal dish with ham and fontina cheese. Friendly and efficient service and the restaurant takes all approporiate precautions in the covid era.
Still the best restaurant in Alexandria. Chicken Vesuviana with eggplant is delicious. Veal marsala with shrimp is devine. Curry based crab soup is excellent, while large scrumptious dessert tray makes it hard to choose.
What a wonderful evening......many thanks we look forward to returning!
Really like Trmpo. However had a not nice experience when we recently went for lunch.
After signing our check and adding tip, the waiter came back to our table and said we didn’t leave a tip! Turns out, he misplaced our signed copy. Not good! And he didn’t apologize. Never had that happen before.
Delicious meals served by a professional, friendly staff, who, in this era of Coronavirus, carefully protect the customers' safety.
A real gem. The food was tremendous and the service great, I highly recommend Tempo!!!
Absolutely excellent! Incredible value for money, great ambiance, service and quality of food. Really high touch on a budget. It was a 150 dollars for 4 glasses of wine, 3 appetisers, 2 mains and 2 desserts. All food was simply excellent. Try the carpaccio, clam linguine and blueberry tart - they’re in a class of their own. I tipped 35% because the service was that good.
great food for good price-linguine with clam sauce was wonderful
The Tuesday-Wednesday special can'f be beat. It is a 3 course dinner for two with a bottle of wine for under $60 .
The are choices of at least 4 items for each course and the menu changes monthly. We had the roast pork tenderloin and one of our friends had the chicken entree while another had the salmon
Every one was pleased
