Roughly translated, a Temerario is a bold, brave brother, a carnal, symbolized by the mural of the proud and strong luchador in our dining room. A temerario is arriesgada—reckless, sometimes irreverent...it’s also Chef Mario Hernandez's creative way with the food he grew up on in Cuernavaca Mexico. His fellow temerario at the bar, mixologist Christopher Reyes, serves small-batch agave spirits, house-made syrups, and fresh jugo (fruit juices) in an array of daring and delicious cocktails.

Guacamole excellent, outdoor seating excellent, grilled fish tacos very oily and not good (didn’t even finish), inattentive bartender/server
Had a very nice dinner here with a friend. It was fairly busy for a Tuesday summer evening. The waitress was friendly & professional and the rest of the staff attentive. The drinks & food were good and presented nicely. I’d recommend this little Chelsea gem.
The food was tasty but was also way over priced for the very small portions. The main dishes were as small as the appetizers, and even at happy hour prices we felt like we spent too much to walk away feeling like we needed an entire second meal.
Well, the frozen strawberry margarita first, from some kind of mix or something, absolutely nothing fresh there and still 15 dollars!!!. Fish tacos, really average and the fish again not fresh.
The only really good thing was the nachos, great fresh appetizer. Sorry to say but not value for the money.
To get value for the money I would drink a beer and eat nachos.
Great happy hour!
Only thing was every time we had another round of drinks we asked for no straws and they kept giving us straws. We can reuse them and/or just not have straws - we don't need them with every round. That was my only issue. Otherwise it was flawless and perfect.
We made a reservation for late Saturday night. When we arrived, they told us the kitchen was closed. Extremely annoying.
Where is the manager?? I booked a reservation for 4 ppl for 11PM because family was arriving to NYC via train at 10:20PM. The restaurant called to confirm my reservation and told me that they would "wait for us and keep the kitchen open" - even though they usually close the kitchen at 11PM. My family arrived a little earlier than expected, so we got to the restaurant at 10:40PM. When we told the hostess we had a reservation, she said "I'm sorry, the kitchen is closed." I told her that the person who called us said they would stay open until we arrived at 11PM, and it was know only 10:40PM. Without saying anything, she walked away to the back of the restaurant. About 5 minutes later (as I was checking opentable to see what else was open), a man came to the front and said he could seat us but would need to do it in the next 5 minutes because the kitchen was closing. He made it sound like he was doing us a favor...but we had a confirmed reservation!! The food was bland at best, and we will NOT be coming back here. Too many other good places to eat in Chelsea. Even the all-night diners are better than this.
Carolina is the best waitress ever... had another friend over from the uk and she made them feel so special. thanks so much and to whomever this girl deserves a raise or a share in your restaurant.
Great happy hour deal on Saturday 4-7 $8 margaritas and apps.
Wasn’t super impressed. We bought a pulsd offer, which included an appetizer, side, two entrees, two drinks and dessert. The drinks were good, the service was painfully slow and we weren’t offered anything to make up for this and there was no awknowledgement from the staff that the service was poor. The restaurant was not busy as all. Food was OK.
it was amazing
Delicious margaritas and nachos. Small tacos. Good service. Great outdoor seating
Overall good experience, don’t go crazy for their food diving into the sauce.
Nice enough sitting outside people watching. Food is acceptable. Inside is unbearably loud.
The noise level inside made it impossible to have a conversation in reasonable tones. If you prefer to sit at the outside cafe, you can avoid the bar din, but the trade-off is Eighth Avenue traffic, sirens, etc.
Used to be good. Some of the food was inedible. Service was spotty. Won’t be coming back.
Felt kind of rushed by the staff initially but it got better. The urge to turn over tables quickly seemed obvious. Otherwise, good food.
Had drinks and snacks with clients
The staff were so kind and kept everything moving without making us feel rushed. Great service and delicious bites! I used a Pulsd deal to find this place and they managed it smoothly.
Good, fresh food with a lovely presentation.
We had a wonderful time here. The service was top notched. Cannot day enough good things about this restaurant. They make their own bun for the burgers. Plus the drinks were excellent. Definitely worth a go
A bit of the pricey side for casual Mexican food. Service was good.
We were excited to eat at Temerario in our neighborhood after a recent excellent meal at its sister restaurant The Black Ant in the East Village. But the food at Temerario was just OK. My pressed carnitas were tough, overcooked and somewhat tasteless. The corn tortillas were dry. Appetizers of guacamole, nachos and quesadilla were pretty good. The room was colorful and people at other tables appeared to be enjoying themselves
What a great place! Fun, chill vibe. Delicious, authentic food. Very attentive staff. Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be back!
Friendly and accommodating service...I feel like we got ripped off with the drinks. We ordered a pitcher during happy hour and the server didn’t tell us ordering per drink was cheaper.
Food was great but the service was below average. The bottomless brunch does not allow the customer to be neglected for the restaurants benefit. My server forgot the drink order several times.
Great service and really good bottomless deal! Only thing I would say is really expensive for value but delicious food none the less
Great food for the price, cocktails good too but not exceptional. Overall great atmosphere and great decorations. Good overall value for what you pay.
Margaritas are strong and fabulous. Friendly servers!
I live in California. I have grown up eating Mexican food my entire life. Tamerario had the best Guacamole I have ever tasted. The hostess, food and drinks were all A+. I have recommended it many friends and I can not wait to go back.
Solid Mexican and good drinks. Not particularly generous portions, nor is it a very big menu, but a solid local spot.
Pretty slow service. Think the waiter was just having an off day bc I heard they are usually great
We came here for unlimited brunch using a Pulsd deal. Food was great, drinks were strong and service was really good! No complaints and would definitely recommend
We went there for brunch and had unlimited margaritas included. The food was delicious, plated beautifully. Unfortunately service left us with a bad taste. It took 35 minutes to get a refill on a margarita (90 minutes unlimited). When they refilled it they served the wrong one and then came back a few minutes later with one in a tall glass no lime or chili rim. Made us feel like they couldn't be bothered especially since we came in at the tail end of brunch and they were not that busy. No small talk and our extra salsa never came. We love their sister restaurants and were very underwhelmed by our experience especially since we were so excited to visit.
I didn’t actually get to eat here. I made reservations on opentable but when I got there, they said their opentable was broken so didn’t have my reservation. Told me it was a 1/2 wait. I left.
Loved the happy hour bar food choices! Service was friendly and swift
Great wait staff and the food was just delicious. Will definitely return.
Everything was great except our reservation was no placed because the restaurant’s iPad was broken. We did however have a wonderful time and a lovely meal.
