Very simply, the best Greek restaurant in New York City. As much as I love an occasional lavish dinner at one of the high end spots in Manhattan, and most of them have excellent food, Telly's is just as good, a lot more reasonably price in a charming setting with consistently friendly service.
Their Horiatiki salad is delicious, not to mentioned served in the most beautiful salad bowls around, both the large and the small. Their meze are all superb. My favorite is either their Octopus or the Gigantes, but he list goes on. Their swordfish kebab is consistently melt-in-your-mouth delicious. So much so that I went there twice last week and ordered it both times.

A Saturday out with my wife. Great time, great service and great food. Seating was a bit tight but that's to be expected when the place was packed. Everything was wonderful. I would go back anytime. Also, they have valet parking and that is a huge plus in that busy neighborhood.
My wife and I flew in from Chicago to attend the USMMA football game. Open Table led us to Telly’s.
The previous reviews helped us select Telly’s. The welcome, the service, the food: Outstanding.
We had the fried cheese (can’t spell saganoki) and greek salad. So fresh. The tomatoes and feta some of the finest. We then had red snapper (they deboned) and lamb chops. Stunning.
Telly’s treated us w/ dessert—-donuts w/honey. An amazing treat for an amazing night.
Telly’s is a good restaurant. The problem is that it could be better. Also, with so many restaurants to choose from in the area, not sure it’s worth going back.
The food is generally good- not great , service is also ok. The problem is the price. It was about $50per person for 5 people. That was for 2 salads, 3 shared appetizers, 3 shared main courses, one dessert and 2 drinks. I think that’s a lot for a local, neighborhood restaurant that is nothing more than average.
We have been enjoying meals at Telly's for years. When our relatives come to NY we always go there for at least one meal. This time, however, the food was tasteless and the service was friendly, but sporadic. My daughter is still waiting for her drink.
The calamari was greasy and bland. The saganaki was delicious.
We ordered two whole fish. The bass was good, while the Bronzini tasted old. On our way out, we noticed that the fish in the display looked old and tired and smelled the same.
Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed and will find a new Greek restaurant in Astoria.
Our friends meet us at Telly's during Labor Day Weekend. The bartender made me the worst Manhattan I have ever had, poured my wife a non-chilled glass of white wine and then charged me $30...In Astoria? We were seated promptly and then waited almost 10 minutes for anyone to come over. The menu offers many choices; we had 3 orders of whole fish and 1 order of Mousakka(sp). Jumbo lentils and lemon potatoes were the sides we selected to add The Mousakka was served warm, not hot? It was tasty but the whole fish which we asked to have filleted looked like a cat attacked it. Sloppy, rushed and unappetizing. Very little flavor and bad presentation. This place serves Diner-Quality food and our waitress was M.I.A. for most of our meal. You couldn't pay me to go back.
Three people: shared three apps, two entrees and a bottle of wine. All food very good to excellent as always *except* the recommended red snapper was overcooked, a real disappointment. Also, the waitress – new to us – took far too long to come to us multiple times. Good overall but we've had excellent experiences in the past; this one fell short.
We have enjoyed the food and service at Telly's for years. This time we were a group of 6 on a Fri night. The food was terrible! Chicken kebabs were tough and rubbery. Our friends did not like the branzino. Service was inattentive at best. Really an awful meal!
Consistently outstanding for 25 years. No better place for fish or meat. Octopus, saganaki (grilled cheese), sausage, green house salad, flounder filet, biftekia (Greek burger), swordfish and chicken kabob, and loukoumades (fried dough croquettes with Greek honey) on the house. It doesn't get any better than this in Astoria.
Absolutely nothing positive to say other than the waitress was very friendly and pleasant. Based on the other reviews and the long reputation this seemed like a safe bet to enjoy Astoria's authentic Greek food and atmosphere. Three of us were at a cramped table as they packed people in the front while the back of the restaurant was nearly empty. We ordered basic drinks and eventually a dryish loaf of nondescript white bread came. It was dry and airy. Our order rolled out in reasonable time. For appetizers we had the mixed dips, which were three large dollops, not sure of the Greek names but they were pretty bland but adequate and came with pita bread. We shared a Greek salad that was nothing but chunks of cuke, MANY tomato wedges, about 4 graceless chunks of feta, lots of sliced onion, jalapeños, salt, pepper, and a shake of oregano straight from the store-bought jar of dried stuff. We got an order of halloumi, too; just cut & under-grilled - 5 wedges on a plate, zero character. Mains were grilled sardines, maybe 8 of them, in a row, on a plate, with half a lemon, wham. Zero presentation value or seasoning. Overcooked, dry and I could only choke down 5. Horta (dandelion greens) were drowned in oil, and bland. Companions ordered grilled jumbo shrimp, and they indeed were big, and dry and overcooked, didn't taste too fresh, big chunk of lemon. Final entree was moussaka: slab of, technically, moussaka, because it had meat and potatoes (+lemon chunk of course) but again it seems it was prepared as if seasoning was not a thing. And it was like half potato. Uninspiring, blah, didn't get finished. Tab was ~$120 (drinks: 1 beer & 2 iced teas). Blah blah about this being traditional Greek, family-style, etc. It was lousy, uninspired, not especially fresh, and sad considering it was a family meal. Could've gone somewhere that cared. We went elsewhere for coffee & dessert. Who wrote all these glowing reviews? I don't get it. What a dreadful restaurant.
