Telio Ratings and Reviews
Homemade Food Just like my Grandmother Cooked - Terrible
The Upper West Side is where the literati live, yet Symphony Space is located in a restaurant desert - nothing but retail chain stores and Starbucks - not a decent restaurant in site. So we tried Telio a Greek/Italian home style restaurant guarded by a little old Mediterranean couple. But not every grandmother knows good food. Mine was the worst cook in the world.
We started with “Greek Spreads”: taramosalata (carp mousse), melizanosalata (eggplant salad), tzatziki (greek yogurt with garlic cucumbers and mint) and tyrokafteri (red pepper and feta cheese purée). All tasted as if just spooned from a Krinos Jar. The spanakopita was a soggy mess with a caked burnt crust – obviously had been sitting around for days and reheated many times.
Our Entrees were a Gyro plate, Chicken Kebab and Veal Parmigana. I knew we were in trouble when they were served 5 minutes after ordering. All tasted wet from the steam table and then reheated. The pasta was Al Mushy, rather than al dente – had to eat with a spoon because the strands broke on the tines of a fork – Chef Boyardee is better quality. Box wine for $12 glass.
Good neighborhood casual dining. Greek, Italian dishes well prepared Also great pizzas. Unfortunately Telio most often fails to register Open Table reservations, so you'll get a no show email from Open Table. In my case, I notified the host & waiter of my open table reservation to no avail.
This is a good neighborhood spot for casual dining. Service was very good. Not sure it was as authentic as I would have liked (I'm from Chicago and we have Greektown) but the food was good and well preparred and my guests live in the neighborhood and they will be coming back. I would give it an overall 3 1/2 -4 stars.
Very good neighborhood place. I think it helps to be a regular? The place had many open tables which was not surprising for an August night and the owner met us and showed to any table we wanted. Didn't need our OpenTable reservation! The METS game was on a TV by the bar which was a plus for me. Food was a cut above typical Greek diner, with lots of Greek & Italian options. The grilled octopus was ok but had a tuna fish taste? Lamb kabobs with grilled vegetables was excellent except for the rice which was a bit soggy. My daughter enjoyed her chicken Marsala. Strangely it took forever to pay our bill despite help from the friendly "bus boy" who also kept our glasses filled with cold and refreshing water.
I eat here often. It's a neighborhood gem. The food is always fresh and good and the staff is friendly and efficient. Because I'm a regular there they know me and always give me a warm hello including the owner who is usually on site managing. He cares. I love this restaurant. It's my go-to.
1) Servers are all very friendly and nice, except space is too small so sometimes the utensil dropped to the floor when people moving around. The Greek young server is super nice and attentive, introduced what's the traditional taste of greek dishes.
2) Food is greatI Although dessert is way too sweet, the server said that's authentic greek taste.
We two people ordered and shared: a grilled octopus, creamed spinach and artichoke on portobello as appetizer, a roasted lamb shank. The appetizers are good, but new york portion average appetizer. But the lamb shank is huge, and super tasty. The lamb shank is well-cooked but not over cooked, and the shank soaked all the sauce and aroma spices, a must try dish!
3) Too bad the famous dessert Galaktoboureko is sold out, so we ordered the chocolate lava cake because I want to skip the super sweet Baklava. However, the chocolate lava cake is really too sweet, even sweeter than american sweet. This is the only disappointment. Otherwise, the food is great!
I will come back again, and still want to try the Galaktoboureko!
we had a reservation thru Open Table at 6:30 pm on Saturday night and upon arrival, discovered that the restaurant was closed due to a wedding and the waiter said Open Table had be informed that morning. The good news was that we sat outside on the pizza side of the restaurant and had the luck and pleasure of meeting two restaurant "regulars" (Glen and Cathy) who were also sitting outside in the pizza outside who promptly got their regular waiter to provide us with the restaurant menu and provided great service. overall, a great New York City experience.
This was my first time at Telios and I can't wait to return. Friendly service, like family. Huge menu. So many delightful choices. The meal was so fresh, clean, simple, and delicious. Very reasonable price point. Pleasantly bustling atmosphere without being too noisy. My new favorite.
it was our first time dining there, and we assumed because we noted that on our Open Table reservation, they were super friendly and accommodating. It ends up, we watched them treat everyone with the same enthusiasm and service.
Food was great and fresh. Might be our next neighborhood go-to!
Telio has always been wonderful over the years and it still is consistently good. Every server helps out and gives their 100%. The food is always superb. We enjoyed soft shell crab and my grandaughter loved the lasagna.
The Greek Village Salad and the dessert and coffee was sublime.
