Contemporary American
Telepan is an urban restaurant that serves innovative farm-to-table dishes and wine in upscale surrounds. Helmed by chef-owner Bill Telepan, the market-drive menu features over two dozen dishes (excluding dessert). Menu highlights include the house-smoked book trout and lobster Bolognese. Guests can dine a la carte, or spoil themselves with a lavish four-course prix fixe dinner. This restaurant also boasts an impressive wine list, carefully curated to complement the dining menu. Tucked on the ground floor of an elegant townhouse, Telepan is a nice pick for special occasions. The restaurant's four-course tasting menu (which comes with optional wine pairing) provides the perfect culinary tonic for a romantic night out. Telepan is open for lunch and dinner, Monday through Sunday.

Too bad they were forced to close the next day. They will missed, both as a good neighbor and a great place to go if going to Lincoln Center.

Little did we know that our dinner at Telepan on 5/13 would be my last. My husband and I have been coming here since it opened. It has been our go-to spot for pre-opera and theatre and special occasions. We always walked away feeling we had been well taken care of. Now what will we do? We also celebrated our anniversary there in April...and so glad that we did. Thank you Bill for 10 great years. Hope that you find another spot and begin anew.

The combination of smoked trout and (sweet blinis) did not work for me. The pea pancakes dish had a variety of pea based food, but they all taste the same. The beef tartare my husband had was no special (worth a Micheline star restaurant) either. His fetuccini were very good he said.

and much better value and better service than Leopard at cafe des Artistes. It is clearly one of the best restaurants in the Lincoln center area. From the moment we came in we were treated with great gentility. The wait staff and the busboys were all excellent and in greater number than other restaurants to which I have gone in the area. It is3 stars expensive. the delicious lamb entree was $44. but worth every penny. The oysters baked with herbs was also amazing.

Food is the star here. Everyone at the table went quiet and just ate! Mozzarella with artichokes as the appetizer was creamy and delicious. Swordfish was wonderful and home fries and ramps with it were even better. Pasta was fantastic. Service was lovely. No complaints!

Food was great. Spring pea pancakes w/ pea shoots, light saute, puree and the pancakes themselves are a nice dish. Lots of fresh pea flavors with lots of contrasting textures/compositions. Steak for 2 was fantastic. Perfectly cooked. Service, however, was very inconsistent and staff seemed hesitant/confused as to what to do at times. Transitions were languishing and what could have been a nicely paced dinner dragged onto 2hrs unnecessarily.

We enjoy Telepan every time we come to NYC and this time was no exception. We two ladies chose the four course wine pairing tasting menu and it was fantastic! This meal is SUCH a bargain! As usual, the food was superb but the service from both Megan, the server and Pavla, the sommelier took the experience to a new level. Megan allowed us to relax and enjoy a glass of Prosecco while we perused the menu. When questioned, she thought that it would be better for us to split the wine tasting as the pours are generous. (Totally correct!) She answered all our food questions and paced the meal perfectly. Pavla was a delightful surprise! She is a sommelier who clearly knows her wines. Pavla took the time to find out our palate preferences and chatted knowledgeably about every selection. She selected different wines for each of us, which was wonderful. I have a cellar at home and very much appreciated her professional, yet friendly manner and it was nice to chat with her about wine. Superb evening and we booked for another evening as well.

My friend and I usually dine at Telepan in the spring when we attend the Ballet and this dining occasion proved to be as good as usual. We particularly enjoy the spring menu especially the pea pancakes. We have also dined there with other friends and family on other visits into NYC. And we always find the food, service and atmosphere to be wonderful.

Telepan is a terrific restaurant. It offers first rate food, excellent service, and a quiet ambiance, and great value for the price. The prix fixe dinners are priced far below many restaurants of comparable quality. That Telepan is in our neighborhood, the Upper West Side, is an added bonus.

While the outside was unseasonably cold, wet, and windy; inside Telepan was warm, welcoming, and delicious. Our party had the tasting menu paired with an excellent wine recommended for the varied selections. The service was prompt and efficient, not rushed and not stuffy - simply a very comfortable experience. While all the food was superb, the swordfish was possibly the best I've ever had.

Went here for brunch with some friends and for the prix fixe menu, the cost/quality ration was pretty spectacular. Also, I really recommend the chipotle bloody mary. It was watery in a way really didn't bother me because the overall flavor was robust and spicy.

Telepan offers consistently fine dining in a civilized atmosphere at prices commensurate with the quality of the food. Dined here many times with different friends and everyone remarks on the overall high quality of the experience and the really good and interesting food. It's low-key, tables surrounded by plenty of space, decent but restrained lighting, great service. It's an adult restaurant which suits us just fine.

After asking multiple times if we had a performance to attend (we did), the staff dawdled 10 minutes before bringing menus. We ordered a four course tasting menu and waited 30 minutes between the second and third courses. My third course was cool in places, suggesting uneven heating. The food was well prepared otherwise and the staff friendly.

Tables are spaced and one never feels crowded. Consequently the noise level is manageable enough for conversation. Service is very attentive. Salads are large enough to split. The veal Milanese was a bit hard and not tender enough. The stripped bass special was salty for my taste and would have been dry without the ample sauce. Meal was very expensive but the restaurant is pleasant and makes for a nice social evening w friends.

A first but not last visit...Nick Larsen, a Bouley alum, is GM and I can only imagine that it is his professionally competence and warm manner that infuses the staff. From coat room to bar to dining room, we were in good hands. Bill Telepan's menu is modestly sized, but with some very interesting selections. Not fans of 'smoked', we passed on the smoked trout w. pancake, instead enjoying a beautifully prepared green salad and a quail w. wheatberries. The iconic lobster bolognese was excellent [no chewy lobster here] however I swooned over the ricotta ravioli cacce e pepe. Also in the latter category is THE most delicious coconut cake [think home, mom, birthdays]. The chef commended us for our endurance but I refused to leave even a nibble of that! We thought that the entrees were not on par with the rest of the experience but that may be because I missed that the chicken entree included some smoking. We look forward to a return.
