As always, this place shines. All the food our entire party had was perfectly cooked and served. The only disappointment was learning that this was the last week for this establishment and it was closing and no longer part of the culinary institute classes.

It's always fun to get an inexpensive meal from the culinary students. It's also fun for my husband, a graduate of this culinary school, to critique and enjoy the students' efforts. This time, our waiter was a newby, so awkward but trying hard. The food was all right, some good entrees and a pedestrian dessert.

The building is under construction, so we had to walk around and through a lot of construction. Although there were only a few tables occupied, there was no one to greet us as we arrived. The host was an instructor, who was checking out the room and helping the students serve. They were friendly, but not particularly adept. The food was very good and I was surprised that the restaurant was not full.Maybe because the service was slow.

As an alumni coming back after 6 yrs I found some changes but nothing notable. The food was as excellent as always. I brought with me my fiancee who is a French National and chef. He thoroughly enjoyed the food and the wine. We are entertaining the idea of hiring a pastry student for his family's French Bakery here in the states.

The service was slow and spotty. The salad was ok but the dressing was a bit overdone. The main course had an overabundance of garlic and oil which overpowered the flavor of the dish.

Overall, we had a very nice dining experience. We understand that there was construction going on in the building so the dusty air and noise in parts of the restaurant was understandable. Our waiter (Joe?) was very pleasant and accommodating. The only issue we had was that the steak I ordered was extremely tough - it was difficult to cut and almost impossible to eat. My dining partner agreed. I couldn't eat any of it. Our waiter was very apologetic but did not offer a substitution. The rest of the lunch experience was very enjoyable.

I and my two eating companions enjoyed our visit to Technique but have some reservations about the food prep and plating. One companion found the pork he ordered to be dry. We all felt the chocolate souffle missed the mark completely. It was almost "cakey," or perhaps just curdled. Whatever, the consistency was all wrong. As to the other courses, they were good but not outstanding and the plating has not yet reached the "professional" level for these particular students. But for $10, it was quite a bargain. We also thoroughly enjoyed the staff, including the teacher who was present.

It's important to note that Le Technique is part of Cordon Bleu, so it is staffed by students. This would not be a good choice if you have time constraints, because delays are a real possibility. Fortunately, we had some time that afternoon, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Limited wine list, but some local favorites. At this price, you can't go wrong; quality ingredients, and earnest wait staff. We will be back.

First time here and already have plans to return. The atmosphere was clean, open, and sophisticated. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Felt spoiled to have fresh bread and three soft butter options. Everything I ordered was cooked perfectly(mushroom carbonara starter, and chicken with carrots/potatoes entree). Loved the puff pastry dessert. $10 for a delicious three-course meal with white linens on a working girl's salary in downtown Portland is absolutely divine! Only downside was that it took more than the hour I am allotted for lunch, but now I know to plan a longer lunch hour when dining here. It is worth it!

We really enjoyed our most recent visit. The food was delicious and well prepared, the service was attentive but not intrusive. One disappointment was that, even very early in the lunch service, they had already run out of one of the entres (halibut) that three of us had ordered. Students did a great job, and the restaurant manager/instructor always makes us feel welcome and special.

Average home cooking. The grilled fruit with arugula salad was over dressed and underwhelming. And the presentation of a paltry few pieces of grilled fruit next to a pile of arugula was visually uninteresting. Entree was served barely lukewarm and was too salty. The dessert did not come as described and was much too sweet.

I operate a tour company and had a group of 21 at Technique for lunch. The day we were there was only the 2nd day they were open of the new term and they did a great job! The food was very good. Lamb burger, Halibut (I had that and it was excellent!) and Beef short rib. Grilled fruit salad was interesting and quite good. The dessert choices were a caramel custard or a warm fruit crumble with whipped cream. The students were a bit nervous but as it was only the 2nd day being open I think they did an outstanding job!

Today I had this scallop, Brussels sprout, bacon dish. I would not call it a salad per say. An appetizer for sure. I was filled up with just that, but it was just the starter. For the main entree, I had the braised beef short rib. It was HUGE and meaty just fell from the singular bone. Had some carrot, turnip & pured potato stuff too. YUM. I had to take home most of it, just too full. They also packed up my desert made of fruit with crumble. Tasted so great, I am still salivating. I also had order to go, of the grilled halibut with a sort of white ragu. Can not say much for the ragu, but that halibut.YUM. A starter of grilled fruit on salad that tasted more like a desert than starter. LOVED THIS. And a Pot de Creme with salted caramel...

Really outstanding. This cooking-school restaurant offers three-course lunches for $10!! Great service and classy environment, with really top-notch food from folks learning to be professional chefs. The salads were outstanding, the pork loin and salmon were excellent, and desserts really creative. Everything hand-made, including the choice of butters with bread to start! Highly recommended for a great downtown weekday lunch in Portland!

Technique exceeded our expectations, everything was wonderful. The only problem is now we will be judging all restaurants by these standards. Hope to see all of you on our 34th. :)

I doubt if there is a better value for the quality of food you get- 3 course lunch for $10.00 all in an hour if you must, or longer if you wish. Servers are learning the ropes of working in a dining room. A very small price to pay for the value.

This was a really fun experience. You get a three course lunch for only $10. I had a watermelon and arugula salad, halibut for my main course, and a peach cobbler a la mode for dessert. The halibut was cooked perfectly but came with some undercooked fava beans which were not so good. One of my friends got the caprese salad which was delicious and more decadent than the traditional version. They breaded and fried the mozarella so it was like a round, thin and more delicate version of a mozarella stick you would get at a bar. It was definitely an interesting experience and fun to try out. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

This was my second visit to the restaurant at Le Cordon Bleu - the first being a dinner a couple of years ago. The food was as amazing as I remembered, but even lower prices now and the service was better. I have told people before - you go here for the food and to give the students a chance to practice their craft - not so much for the service as the servers are other budding chefs just taking their turn in the front of the restaurant. Dont' get me wrong, our service was quite good this time but you could tell the young man lacked the confidence of a veteran server. For lunch, I think it's the best deal around and with a quiet atmosphere that is perfect for conversations.

As I wrote for the server, he was quite shy. Made good eye contact however if he would have been more verbal I would have left a bigger tip. I expected at the very least an "I will be right with you". As it was, the couple who were seated about 6 minutes after I was, were already being served their soup and I had not even been given water. The food is always special, tasty and the appearance spectaular. When served, usually looks as if the portions are small. NO WAY! once ya start tasting and enjoying the dishes, one gets full really easy. Today I had the Salmon chowder, Sauteed Salmon fillet W/ carrot risotto and the nectarine crisp W/ valilla bean ice cream. OH and the 3 butters W/ bread too. (cinnamon butter)..mmmmmmmmmm WHO KNEW?
