Teatro Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit to Teatro. The first visit was outstanding and we had to be sure it wasn't just beginner's luck. On both occasions we were seated in the uber comfy curved couches at the front. This time I went in with the idea that I had to try the carbonara but once more the fish special sounded too good. So scallops and caviar it was! I don't honestly think these folks know how to make bad food. Do yourself a favor and try this restaurant.
Great ambiance but unacceptable that we had to wait over 45 mins for our food to arrive at lunch when the restaurant was half empty. The server was apologetic, but there was really no excuse and the bill certainly didn’t reflect our inconvenience at lunch hour. Teatro really should have comped our wine.
An early Valentine's date this past Saturday where we selected the Chef's Tasting Menu with premium wine pairing. It was simply outstanding and I recommend anyone to give this a try at least once. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable but never in our faces which we really appreciated. Thank you Teatro - we will be back again soon.
Disappointed in the gluten free options. I realize this is an Italian restaurant, however, I have enjoyed gluten free bread and pasta at other restaurants. My entre consisted of uninspired chicken and beans. The mushrooms were eliminated, presumably because they were not gluten free. Dessert options again were limited. My family and friends dine out frequently and many of us are celiac. We are looking for innovative gluten free options to enjoy. I didn't find them at Teatro.
The eggplant Parmesan was satisfactory at best. However everything else was fantastic. The dessert was amazing. (Ordered 2 different ones and enjoyed them both. ). Cold coffee but it was fixed promptly by great servers. I would try this restaurant once more just wouldntnt order the eggplant parm. Other than that a fine evening.
What a beautifully appointed building inside and out! I loved the sights with the copper wall at the back, high ceilings and the bold artworks. There are quiet corners. I like the way they have divided up the space. We had some simple meals of soup and salad and an eggplant parmagiano which were all delicious. Service was gracious and quick. We had to hurry over to the theatre so we appreciated the promptness of our meal. The simple salad was a little pricey, but I guess we were paying for the ambiance too!
The ambience of the restaurant is lovely and the service was superb. Unfortunately the food was highly salted for my liking. The gnocchi with pesto and sundried tomatoes was presented well but too salty. The salmon entree was ok. The salmon was prepared well but had fishy smell, and the bed of barley it was on was overly salty and lemony.
To be fair, they did not charge for the salmon as I could not eat it, and to be fair we did leave a 30% tip for the Service.
Recommend they ease up on the salt.
Was expecting some good wholesome Italian food but instead got the opposite. Super salty and lack of imagination throughout every course. The only great part was Desert and the service. At $200.00 with only two glasses of wine I would expect more.
I would not recommend if your are looking for pure authentic Italian food.
Met a friend here for dinner. Waitress was great to give us some catch-up time before we ordered.
Ordered 4 courses - appetizers, salads, mains and dessert. Aranchini was ok...not really flavourful and size-wise were small like Malted Milk Balls. Calamari was very tasty and a good one to share. The beet salad was an artistic masterpiece, and oh so tasty! Would have liked a few more beets but the combination on the plate was fantastic. We ordered the seafood lasagna and the gnudi. Friend said the lasagna was very good, gnudi was good but lacked some flavour. Dessert was beautifully presented and both the panna cotta and chocolate mousse were very good.
All in all a very enjoyable meal and evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful so makes any occasion a special one!!
It was a wonderful experience. The staff was very accommodating to fit a wheelchair in amd make it seem effortless. The staff was friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was simple, and executed to perfection. We will definitely be back and spread the word on the exemplary meal we enjoyed.
PRE-PARTY EXPERIENCE: Called and left a message to make a reservation for 8 people for my fiancé's birthday. I specifically asked them to text me back and to refrain from calling as I didn't want to blow the surprise dinner. Well, they called me back and woke both my fiancé and I at 1:00 in the morning to confirm the reservation.... let's say we were not amused and it did blow the surprise.
DECOR: Amazing decor in a very old and historical building. The decor is likely the best aspect of the restaurant.
FOOD: Food was fine, nothing to write home about. The calamari was too salty, and was also a bit saggy. The waiter talked us into ordering the lasagna, which was OK, but not great, basically a lot of tomato sauce with some seafood.
WINE: Good wine selection, but takes a little while to get the bottle. If you don't want to be out of wine as you start eating your main course, make sure you order the bottle in advance.
TIPPING: They added 20% gratuity on the bill which is fine, however, they failed to inform us so we ended up double tipping. When I asked them to get a refund, the waiter said that he had made it clear to everyone that the gratuity was included. Funny because absolutely nobody heard him say it and why would we tip 20% twice? Anyway, they ended up reimbursing the extra tip.
We have loved going to Teatro ever since it opened. The food is normally very good. We had pickerel on risotto with blanched kale feature dish this night. I prefer fish under done but the pickerel was so under done as to be raw and hard to cut with the knife and very dense no separation of flakes. The fish, risotto and kale were so over salted we could barely finish it. We both had the feature. Both excessively salty. If we weren’t running out of time for a concert nearby we would have returned the dishes. Someone had to have tasted the risotto before serving it? But that should not have been sent out.
We came to teatro to celebrate my birthday. upon receiving the bill, we noticed that one of the bottles of wine was wrongly charged an additional 20 dollars. I can only assume how many times this has happened and patrons have blindly paid additional mark ups without noticing. After we inquired about the "error", we sat for 50 minutes while the staff tried to correct the bill. During this time NO ONE came by to offer us coffee, water, ANYTHING. They stated the computers failed, fine, is it really that difficult to punch in -20$ on a debit/credit machine and figure out and fix the system after?! The lack of service and accommodation (not to mention, if you wrongly overcharge your patrons, the lack of apology) ruined the experience. I would not recommend, and I would advise anyone who is thinking of going to double check your bills.
It was excellent. The service, the food, the ambiance. I would highly recommend it. It was my second time. I did say it was 38th. wedding anniversary and did not get anything special. Jeremy was very nice. The meals were outstanding. I like champagne by the glass. The dessert superb.
Arrived at 12:40, after the lunch rush, and we were told we had to finish our meal by 2. We ordered as quick as the server would let us.
Food arrived at 1:25, so needless to say we were very rushed in eating.
Quality of food was reasonable, but not what I expect from a high-end dining experience.
