About

Welcome to Tazzina, the culinary home of Chef & Owner Jazon Zukas. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, Jason's earliest food memories come from the aromatics of his Italian-American family's kitchen. Jason made some of the best restaurants in New York City his classroom, and in turn, gained a practical experience from climbing the ladder in the kitchens of some of Manhattan's most illustrious chefs. In fact, Jason was featured on the 2nd season premiere of Food Network's hit show "Chopped" where he reigned supreme and was twice crowned the winner. The following year, Jason returned to compete on "Chopped Champions" and earned 2nd place in the final competition. Today, Tazzina reflects the Old World culinary sensibility which initially inspired him, tied in with his Nouveau flair. Buon Appetito!

I always loved going to tazzina... food is amazing but the thing that bothers me most is the tables are so close together you can’t have a private conversation plus you hear everything the next table is talking about too.

We enjoyed the experience but had to wait 30 minutes for our table to be ready. Food was excellent but because of the late start and (reservation was for 8:30 - didn't get seated until after 9:00 - understand you can't force a table to leave) we did have some issues with the kitchen being closed (although they did re-open it after we reminded them we had to wait for the table) and we were the last people to leave. Everyone was nice and they tried to make up for the late seating. We were there 2 weeks earlier (Thursday) and had no problems with being seated. Saturday was extremely busy.

Looking to go back in a week

First visit... Had a good time last night with my hubby. The restaurant is small but we were so glad to find some good food near our house. Traveling to the city from Middle Village can be tiresome. Waitress was kind and attentive. Food was fabulous! Very creative. The chef obviously has a great handle on how to mix flavors and create new dishes. We were impressesed. We had Grandmas meatballs which melted in our mouths. So good! My hubby had the pork ragu which he loved. I had the skirt steak special. I like my steak well done which not everyone knows how to pull off but these guys did. It was perfect. We also finished off with the "coffee and donughnuts" dessert which was also awesome. The espresso gelato was especially good. I would definitely return. Oh yeah, try the watermelon sangria. very good and refreshing!

This was a get together for Mother’s Day, and for two birthdays (early). The food was great, but there was a huge wait between the one shared app, and all of the entrees. It was somewhere between 45-60 minutes. The waiter even commented that we must be wondering where our food was ... and thought it was going to be the next order out or something. We got our entrees at least ten minutes after that. The food was delicious, and the meatballs in the Sunday Sauce Rigatoni dish that my boyfriend ordered were probably some of the best meatballs I’ve had anywhere.
My nephew and I both got a chicken special that was a cutlet w/ prosciutto & mozzarella in a Marsala sauce, with cippolini onions & cremini mushrooms. My nephew scarfed his down in under 5 minutes, while I enjoyed half of mine, and took the rest home (I wanted room for dessert). My sister had the ribeye special, ... great grill flavor, but was too rare for me. (She tried ordering it “medium rare plus” #nutty #WTF)
The two desserts shared by the table were excellent — the ‘coffee & donut’ dessert tasted like a cannoli filled zeppole, and the gelato had a great deep coffee flavor. We also ordered the panna cotta, which I’m used to seeing served in a shallower dish — however, as I’d checked Yelp, I knew exactly what to expect. That was primarily devoured by me. I was disappointed to be served the espresso I’d ordered with dessert, a full 5-10 minutes before the dessert arrived. I tried to keep it hot with my hand over it, but just gave up and drank it before dessert reached the table.
All in all, the meal was over 2.5 hours long, and it wasn’t because we lingered. I had a show to get to at Bowery Ballroom, but it all worked out (I didn’t need to see the opening act).
I’d come back for the food, because that was excellent, and I now want to try the chicken parm pizza ... and because it’s a good location to meet up with my sister (who lives in Queens), and it’s not a terrible drive from Brooklyn, where I reside.

Arrived on time for the 745p Res i made 1 month prior. They had to ask me 4 times for my name, my name has 4 letters! They wanted to seat us in a high traffic, servive , restroom area table. I wasnt having any of that. Strike 1

The glasses on our table were filthy with lipstick stains, very offputting. Strike 2

Apps came out and they were well received: Mussells in White Wine and Frito Mixto.

Entrees were Spicy Shrimp Penne and Gnocchi Tazzina. The wrong Gnocchi dish was brought out so now i have to eat my entree alone..

Correct Gnocchi comes out 12mins later and noone comes to check in on us throught. My glass remained empty of water till 5 mins before i was done.

We were offered dessert, no thanks. Just want to pay my $100 bill for 2, no alcohol and leave..

Service was very off. We asked for the wine list three times and they could not seem to find it. We finally got it after about 20 minutes and two pass by when we were asked if we wanted a drink. Then ordered a bottle of the house malbec. The server came back 10 minutes later and said they were out and offered us a different bottle. When we asked the price, it was twice as much as what we originally ordered, so we started over and ordered a different wine in a more reasonable price range. Then we asked for the salumi and cheese plate as an app. The server said their slicer had been broken for several weeks (?!!) and so we could not have that. We asked if we could just get the cheese without the salumi and she said "No, I can't do it. I asked and they said no.". Weird. We finally got our food, which took forever to come. The server (different one) was carrying our three plates in his hands and barked "Can someone please take this?" He looked like he might drop one of them if we didn't assist. The food was tasty but by now the mood was already ruined. Our server disappeared for so long we gave up on coffee and dessert and went home. I don't think we will return.

The restaraunt for its size has way too many tables.
It used to be a good place to go for a romantic dinner, but we were sitting shoulder to shoulder with another couple.
The food was very good, the drinks were good but very light.

First off my visit started with the door being locked
We arrived at 5:26
They open at 5:30
My waiter popped open the door and said we will be open soon.
4 minutes?
They couldn’t let us in?
Weird
Then 5 minutes later he unlocked the door opening it then closed it.
Weird
He could’ve held the door open for us.
Then he seemed preoccupied all night with the hostess
Not a very good waiter.
Buttttt the food was fantastic.
Even with the awful service I’ll definitely go back.

I gave this restaurant 3 stars for a few reasons. When we sat down, It took a long time to get our drinks. Too long... and there was only a few tables in the entire restaurant at that time. We started with the meatballs, which were were luke warm. The app was served with 2 large meatballs and it also came with one slice of garlic bread. For a party of 4, it was not enough and when we asked for more bread, they said they were out of bread. That seemed a little off to all of us, as it was a Friday night, and it was an appetizer that called for more than one piece of bread. And should have been hot. After our apps, our meals came, everything was fine. One thing to note is that the entire night, the service was mediocre. When we ordered dessert, "Coffee and Donuts", the waiter actually said that it was a great choice, and said it was the best on the dessert menu. We also ordered after dinner drinks. After a few minutes, the waiter returned to our table to then tell us that he was out of the Coffee & Donuts. Again, this seemed extremely odd that you would be out of your best dessert option...at the start of a weekend. They also did not offer a solution nor another option. Having said that - we canceled the drinks, did not order any dessert and we got up and left. We drove about a 1/2 hour to meet friends there and overall we were all underwhelmed. We got more of a feeling from the staff that they were doing us a favor, rather than valuing our business. The restaurant is very loud, the service was OK, the bar selection of drinks was OK, and they tend to be out of the things that should be "staples", so I gave it 3 stars.

Since, Chef Jason Zukas opened at his original spot in Glendale, his food has been consistently delicious. I am a fan from day one. Forest Hills, NY, if you have not tried Tazzina, please do!!! My favorite dishes include Chicken Under A Brick, Truffled Gnocchi, and Braised Short Ribs, all so good. I have tried most of the menu, and to date, my favorite indulgence.

It was our 23rd anniversary and we had been to Tazzina several times before. We weren’t too hungry so we shared the following.
The Iron Cast Octopus, Beet salad and the Truffle Gnocchi. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable, patient and polite. The food was cooked to perfection. Texture, flavor and presentation were all perfect. Love Love Love Tazzina. Jason continues to impress with his excellent selection always cooked to perfection.

If you're looking for a place with great options, for something for everyone, come here. From appetizers like Grandma's meatballs and mouth watering mussels, to entrees big enough to share like Rigatoni with Sunday sauce, to delicate fish options, or juicy chicken options, everyone will be happy. Cheese platters are a great option for couples or groups and desserts like nutella lava cake or 'coffee & donuts' will leave you wishing you'd left more room!!!!

This was our 4th visit, the other 3 times we were very impressed with the food, cost and ambiance. The service was a bit slow when it was crowded but not terrible.
This visit there were 6 of us. The appetizers and drinks were served in a timely manner. There was a long delay for the entrees. Two entrees both pasta dishes were finally served one very hot the other rather cold. We waited for the other 4 people to be served but gave up after 10 minutes. Our waitress did not come back to the table to explain or help. Finally another waiter came over and said the Kitchen was a mess. He offered us a round of drinks which did not help the 4 hungry guests. The restaurant was not totally filled ,there were empty tables ,there seemed to be no explanation of why 4 guests still had no dinners.
When these entrees were served, the 2 that were meat entrees were served with no side dish ,just meat on plate.
We should have asked to speak to the manager but there seemed to be no one in charge.
We are disappointed as we thought this would be a regular neighborhood spot for us, but we will not be back
