This restaurant provides guests with an outdoor patio with a fireplace. It has a wine room with private tables and welcomes reservations.
My partner and I happened to be in the area to see the Enchanted: Forest of Lights show at Descanso Gardens and made advance reservations at Taylor’s Steakhouse. We had plenty of time to enjoy a cocktail at the bar and have a leisurely meal.
Boy, were we delighted! The atmosphere is definitely “old school” but in a good way---a step back to the days of fine dining without going overboard.
Tasty sourdough bread and butter were delivered to the table as we sat down. The staff made sure our water glasses were always filled. Our server, Sally, told us about the day’s specials and explained some of the menu items. Very cordial and always there when we needed her.
We both started with the chilled shrimp appetizer and it was fantastic! Each appetizer came with five jumbo (and they deserved the name!) shrimp on ice with a cocktail sauce with a nice horseradish kick. The steaks we ordered came with a choice of two side dishes (we picked garlic mashed potatoes, baked potato, fresh-cut corn and creamed spinach) that would have been extra-cost options at other steakhouses.
The steaks were cooked to our specifications and were delicious. Since bottles of wine are reasonably priced, we opted for a full bottle, which we normally avoid due to price gouging at other restaurants. The food is well priced as well, so we splurged on desserts ordering ice cream and the homemade coconut custard pie, which was outstanding.
We called over the manager, Elva, who we learned has worked there for 18 years, to pay our compliments on an outstanding dining experience. We’d be frequent customers if the restaurant didn’t happen to be 50 miles from home... If they ever open a south county restaurant, we’ll be first in line!
Great meal. Perfectly prepared. Wine and cocktails very good. Nice ambiance and excellent service.
Taylor's remains one of the finest steakhouses in the area. The food is excellent and the prices are far lower than comparable establishments.
You owe it to yourself to try Taylor's
Very good service for our group. 3 out of the 5 enjoyed their steaks. Two ordered the special Ribeye with the bone in while it was flavorful it was a little on the tuff size. All of the sides where good and the desert was wonderful.
We will return but not order the Ribeye bone in again.
This place has been in La Canada for years. It is an up-to-date steak house. The service is great, the food is fabulous and the parking is free. I had Halibut and it was wonderful. The rest of my party had the special, "Surf and Turf. They loved it.
This was my third visit to Taylor's and each visit I have taken someone who has never been there before. My only recommendation would be for the owners to change the table covers as the last 2 visits, the table clothes have gotten caught on something and pulled things off the table onto the floor. Twice the last time... too long on the sides.
Other than that, the food was FANTASTIC. I had the large Spencer with all the trim. I could not have asked for a better meal.
If you want things to be a bit more intimate, do not sit on the bar side... wait for a table away from the bar. The back dining area is excellent for family, small groups or even an intimate date.
My friends were all impressed and I am sure they will return as well. I plan to go back again within the month and try the outdoor area...
Pricing is more than reasonable and I was actually surprised when the check came as it was less than expected. More tip...
Home Run for Taylors... other than the table cloths... please fix it. Thank you
Excellent food and atmosphere
We come all the way up from Orange County to have a great STEAK dinner. We were bringing my mom and having dinner with more local residents. I made reservations on open table and also called to confirm. When we arrived we were going to be seated OUTSIDE on the PATIO. This restaurant is old school and is dark with the red leather booths, and outside is a totally different feel and HOT. We did not want to sit out there and asked to NOT be and they found us a table. The service was not as good as normal however and that night was particularly busy for some reason.
The food and service were spot on as usual. Would recommend to anyone.
My husband and I dined here for the first time with another couple on a Saturday night and we loved it! The ambiance was old fashioned fun with big red booths and western-themed pictures on the walls! Our waitress was wonderful - seemed like she had been there from the beginning! The food was all great - steaks were done perfectly! The ONLY issue was they forgot to bring our creamed spinach and mushroom sides, but turns out we were so full after the appetizers, salads and steaks, we probably wouldn't have been able to finish them anyway! We'll definitely be back, and we'll be sure to try those sides! Fun evening!
We have never been disappointed at Taylor's. The food, the wait staff and the hostesses are always so nice. our favorite dining out spot....................Wayne
I've never had a bad meal at Taylor's. Great steaks! The service was superb too. A must if you want a nice dinner for the money.
As always, the service and quality of the food is always good. We've never had any problems with this restaurant....very consistent. They also have the best Wedge Salad (Molly Salad).
Good food, attentive service, clubby East Coast style atmosphere without the attitude. Not for the budget minded.
Should not have to box my own leftovers especially when there are four people at the table and it has not been cleared. Saw waitress at the begining and then she disappeared for the rest of the meal.
We were seated on the patio. It was terrible. It was extremely noisy. I could not hear the conversations at the table and the waitress could not hear us. I am sure that they have heard these complaints before. THe food was good but the meal was awful. I complained to the manager and I think she said that she would forward the complaint (though I can't be sure as I couldn't hear her and she probably couldn't hear me).
Great place for steaks. Consistenly good food. Service always friendly & efficient.
My retired friends and I eat lunch at Taylor's once a month and it is always a great experience. The food is incredible, they always seem to have specials that aren't on the menu and are delicious, although we all have our favorites on their regular menu as well. The service is friendly, prompt, but not pushy and they let us have a leisurely lunch and enjoy both the company and the food.
Taylor's has been at the top of our dining out list for many years. The food is above average and the service perfect. We are always welcomed by a friendly hostess staff led by Claudia. The wait staff are always helpful and friendly. We love Taylor's..........
First time trying Taylor's. We had a small business lunch and the place was crowded but quiet enough to conduct business. Food was excellent as was the service. I'll be back.
Extensive steak menu with options to please most carnivorous . Cocktails were well made. Service was attentive is not overly friendly. Convenient free par7...vaket is available as well.
The food is always wonderful and the steaks cooked to perfection. We also love the assortment of side dishes available.......and have fallen in love with their sautéed spinach and green beans. Soups are remarkable and the chili is the best around town. The desserts are all house made and you will love anyone of them.
The staff is wonderful........Claudia, Memo, Jenny............gosh....we could go on and on
I like the vibe at Taylor's and the neighborhood feel but the food is not great. It is OK, but not as good as one hopes.
We enjoy every time we eat there! I go with my family all the time and we love everything abiut the place the food is top notch and always on the spot and service a 10 I recommend Taylor's for all types of gatherings ENJOY Because you will defiantly be happy when you do.
Great lighting, booths, steaks and sides! Wine pours are well priced and generous.
Great steak house, that has other options. Good food for reasonable prices.
We had our celebration here and had a great time. Prime Rib is wonderful. Salads are fresh and crisp. our server Sally is a gem.
Over the years we have visited Taylor's and every time we are impressed. Although it is not in our area, it is well worth the drive. We look forward to returning and trying new things from your delicious menu. Keep up the good work!
had a great night at Taylor's. been there many times and they never disappoint, great food and great drinks. super friendly service/
I have been eating at Taylor's in La Canada for the last 25 years or so! It's the best steakhouse in the Foothills! Great service, friendly staff, Terrific food, that's about all I want for a good time!
Plus the portions are so big, I will have another complete dinner at home!
My wife and I just love Taylor's!
We had made reservations a week prior to our dinner date with friends, total of six. We were seated in the patio(disappointment) next to a roaring fire place, almost got roasted!
The table was set for ten, why I don't know and extra settings were not removed.
The waiter was requested to have separate checks, initially refused, we were ready to walk out, but later he complied.
We brought a special bottle of wine, waiter did not pour our glasses, but charged us $10.00 corking fee, ah well.
His demeanor was less pleasant then some of the excellent waitresses at Taylor's. One of our friends actually had to go to the bar for his drinks.
My wife and I come to Taylor's regularly and ALWAYS had an excellent experience, this time, trying to impress some new friends, the event was not what I normally find at Taylor's.
The food how ever was, as good as it gets, excellent!
Yes, I will continue to come to Taylor's, but I will be very aware of who will be serving.

Been going to Taylor's for years; it never disappoints; everyone I take there loves it as well.
With so many other steak houses around, it seems this one has seen its best days. The food is always served cold. This staunchy yet cozy place is dimly lit, intimate and best suited for adults. In the past it's been made clear that children aren't necessarily welcomed here. This last visit we had lunch and observed they have hired some younger wait staff who were refreshingly eager and polite unlike the dinner staff we've experienced in the past. For a good steak, there are far better places to frequent.
Consistently good food with a solid wine list. Always friendly and accommodating.
We've enjoyed Taylor's Steakhouse for over 20 year. The steaks have always been well prepared and are reasonably priced. The chilled prawn appetices is always a favorite.
It is a classic steak house with very good steaks. We have been here multiple times and the steak quality is consistently good. This time we had bad service tho. The wait was long to be first approached by a server, I would say over 10 minutes even to come by and ask for a drink order. Then the person who brought the food out (who was not the waitress) had no idea who ordered what. He stood there saying who had the soup? Felt like we were at Denny's. I don't know that I would be in a huge hurry to go back. Because when you are spending over $30 for a steak I expect better service
A reservation is needed - even during weekdays. Ask for table or booth away from doors. We have been Taylor's fans for fifty years. We normally go to the Los Angeles restaurant. This is our second visit to La Canada. Overall very nice.
Normally we love this restaurant for special occasions, this was my wife's birthday. However this time was very poor -- my wife ordered the dinner culotte, which in the past has been excellent. This time the first cut was tough and cooked medium, my wife ordered medium-rare, so we sent it back. The second piece, although cooked medium. was even tougher. We had the manager take the dinner off the bill. My wife shared my Kansas City sirloin, which was OK. I have the feeling the supplier has changed.
We all ordered the Saturday special, Filet Oscar, and everyone thought it was terrific. But the real gem was the side of fresh corn with red bell peppers and butter. Who knew a steak house would still have great sides?
Taylor is still a place a visit most times, I am in Los Angeles. they have two locations, but I have only been to the one in La Canada Flintridge (north of Glendale). Food is always good, prices are very and plenty of wines by the glass. Much improved from my last visit. Steak was done right, and service was in line with what I would expect from a steakhouse.
