Taylor's Prime Steak House provides a casual dining environment with low lighting, wooden tables and high back, comfortable leather chairs.
The only problem I had was because I called ahead and made a special request for my boyfriends birthday that they didn't follow through with.
The cuts are tender, generous, and flavorful. They were perfectly grilled to order. Sides are generous, fresh, and tasty. Excellent value!
Taylor's is the perfect place to rendez-vous with a friend for a romantic dinner or just a place to catch up. The booths make an intimate place to get close and - with the help of a terrific martini - have a terrific evening. Make sure that you arrive early, parking is tough if the parking lot is full (which it often is if you arrive after 7 pm)
Taylor's did not honor our dinner reservation. I made the reservation on Open Table. I reconfirmed on their voicemail reservation line. I then called and reconfirmed with a "live" person. We arrived exactly on time (7:30 pm). There was not an empty table in the restaurant. We had our 90 year old mother to celebrate her birthday. After waiting almost 15 minutes for a host to appear, he finally did. He claimed that we did not have reservations (in essence calling me a liar). I showed him the e-mail confirmation from Open Table. He was still not impressed. He then told us it would be a short wait, 5 to 10 minutes. Half an hour later we left before my mother passed out from low blood sugar.
I have eaten at Taylor's for over 30 years. They have gone down and down and down. The owner, Bruce Taylor is never to be seen. If the owner doesn't care, neither do I. I will NOT be returning.
Highly recommend this place for Steak Lover's. Had the Rib-Eye and wife had the Rack of Lamb. Both great. You can easily miss this place driving done the road. Valet parking. Definitely place reservation, place can get very busy after 6PM.
We loved eating at Taylor's and can hardly wait to return. The calamari was outstanding; the lobster bisque had nice chunks of lobster. The Bogle petit Syrah was quite good and modestly priced. The Chilean sea bass was wonderful. The prime rib was very good. The homemade red velvet cake was a treat!!
Classic steakhouse in an unexpected location. It's actually been there since 1953, so I suppose not an unexpected location to them.
Taylors is one ( if not the only one) of the last great steakhouses in Los Angeles. The wife and I had an awesome meal...bacon wrapped scallops, salad, London broil, dessert, cocktails and wine. Everything was wonderful and the service was outstanding. Very reasonably priced!! Highly recommended!!
Like a time machine! A wonderful meal.
This was our first time here, and we enjoyed the ambiance very much. I always like a restaurant with dark lighting. I had the filet mignon, which was delicious, and priced reasonably well. My husband decided to try the Tomahawk steak, which was also delicious (pricy, but delicious). The sides were nothing that jumped out at us, they were good, not delicious. We had the mushrooms and the creamed spinach.
Delicious as always. My prime rib melted in my mouth! Very large portion too. Was only able to eat half.
I would recommend Taylor's to any and everyone who loves a great steak. I made a reservation a month in advance for my girlfriends birthday celebration and after a wonderful dinner they brought out a nice ice cream Sunday. Oh btw our steaks were cooked perfectly
Found Taylor's by pure accident and I very happy to have found it. Old school charm with a warm soulful ambience. Great bar with very cool knowledgeable bartenders and the staff at the restaurant were very attentive. Food was very good and I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu. Great for a special outing it just having dinner or lunch with family and friends!
Ordered Thick Prime Top Sirloin; arrived timely after The Molly Salad. Unfortunately it was more rare than Medium Rare and pretty tough. Can't speak to its taste because there wasn't any? Two of my guest enjoyed their meals. My wife ordered the Luncheon New York Cut; she complained it was tough and chewy. Not what we expect from Taylor's. Everything else, including the service was excellent.
.....taylor's is an institution....been going here for years for everything from a quiet dinner to a group celebration....take a trip to yesteryear and enjoy a glass of wine, a cold shrimp cocktail and a sizzling bone in ribeye.....simply superb.....don't forget dessert with and a cup of apffells coffee.....bon appetit
I've introduced several friends to Taylor's and they are now fans. If you like The Smokehouse in Burbank, you'll love Taylor's too.
Only in LA for a week and so pleased we managed to eat here. Truly the best steak ever - but the culinary delights were more than matched by the superb customer service. Our thanks to all!
I haven't been here in years but this place definitely is fantastic. It is definitely older vibe so it's much more classic than the new hip steakhouses but the food service and ambiance are just great.
Friendly service and good steaks. Its a straightforward place with no real surprises.
Best kept secret in LA!
This place is like stepping back in time. Very dark and very nice.
Food was delicious .
Steaks and potatoes.
Server was a tad slow but food was great.
The prices were very good.
Service was great however. The quality of the food was poor at best. The new York strip I ordered, medium rare, was dry and had no floor. The green beans were obviously out of a can. Very disappointing!
Love this place and the Vibe - great job Taylors - awesome martini's too
My wife and I went here for our 9th wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was great and the service was wonderful. We each had the prime rib. We asked for medium rare and what we got was more toward the rare side but that was OK because we ended up having it boxed to go meaning that if it was reheated it wouldn't be dried out. The creamed spinach had an interesting spice in it. All of the staff was friendly and the price was reasonable. We will come back!
Everything you are nostalgic for in the great restaurants of the past is alive and well at the original Taylor's. It is a man's restaurant fit for women. Love the 35-day aged bone-in rib eye medium rare with the perfect garlic mashed potatoes. Wedge salad made correctly. Try not to get full on the to-die-for sourdough bread…it's baked especially for Taylor's and is a "secret recipe." And don't get me started on the REAL cheesecake, not to be confused with that mousse-y stuff passed off as cheesecake today.
We ordered fillet mignon and prime cut meat..we ordered fillet mignon medium but meat was too well cooked.. besides that everything was great
I have been to Taylor's many time. Sunday night we brought first time customers with us. Everything was wonderful until it came to getting our food. It took 1 hour and 35 min to receive our food. The manager said the kitchen was backed up tonight and they were sorry. The waitress came over one time to offer a drink on the house. At the end they comped 2 of the fives meals. I love Taylor's but, it will be years before I go back again.
At Taylor's Steakhouse, the martinis are cold, the steaks are medium rare and the leather booths are filled with a refreshingly unhip yet diverse crowd. Yes it's loud and on Friday and Saturday nights, it's packed to the gills, but once you're in your booth, relax, sip that cocktail, pretend you live in another time and don't worry, Betty will take great care of you. Cheers!
My husband and I were thoroughly delighted with the French dip made with slices of prime rib cooked to your taste, piled high. The onion rings are the best too!
Other reviews had touted the excellence of the food at Taylor's and they werent wrong. I went with the Culotte Steak, which was fantastic. My husband had the filet with mushroom caps served on breaded tomatoes - another great dish. The service was amazing and overall a very good experience.
Ambience was great but felt kind of out-of-place seeing we were travelling out-of-country and might not be appropriately dressed. Service was great but the steak fell short of expectation. Was too tough and dry for our personal preference.
This is a fantastic place to experience a wide range of steak dishes. Spencer steak is awesome. Staff provides excellent service as well as knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back again this weekend and try another dish.
9yrs ago food was good but now its changed...
I didn't really know what I was getting myself into when I got this reservation the morning after. But after going there once, you can bet I'll be going back again. The food here is legendary! Must try LA spot!
After hearing many good things about Taylor's I decided it was a safe bet for a good anniversary dinner; I could not have been more wrong. First off, the valet is useless as the parking lot is pretty much full after 6pm. We had to drive up the block and walk to the restaurant all the while hoping the car would not be disturbed or vandalized. This was inconvenient but excusable, after all it is not their fault if they are busy.
The ambiance was quite nice, very calm despite the crowd. Our waiter basically went to great lengths to completely ignore us, I mean you really have to work hard to perform so poorly at your job. Again though, they were very busy so I will cut him a little slack.
After ordering is when the evening got interesting, the crab cake appetizer was good with a generous amount of crab inside. I decided to opt for the famous Rib eye and my lovely lady went for the prime rib. My lady's prime was absolutely amazing, she actually went as far to say better than Tam O' Shanter and that is saying something. When I took a bite into my Rib eye, however, my heart was instantly broken. The steak I had ordered medium- rare was a medium-well bordering on well done. Not only negligence on the part of the chef, but a sin against god in most self- respecting steakhouses. The balance of right and wrong may have been restored had our waiter decided to check on us even once over the next 40 minutes; instead I was left alone and starving with this piece of meat and my childhood instincts telling me not to waste food took over. I finished the barely tolerable piece of meat just in time for the waiter to finally admit our existence. I voiced my concerns and to his credit he was apologetic and provided dessert for free. It was a nice gesture, but at the end of the day I came for the Rib Eye and I left extremely disappointed in my food.
Unfortunately I will never be eating at Taylor's again it's too much work just to eat there and for a very lousy steak.
This is not a retro restaurant.. it is the same thing since 195 and ought to remain the same. I go there often, particularly when I have to take European friends and colleagues to dinner. It's American food at its best. A fun martini at the bar o start with, I recommend the prime cut and a baked potato, also a Molly salad. Everybody loves it and has a fabulous time and says they want t go back next time in Los Angeles. It is also reasonably priced even when you buy a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. I love Taylors.
I'm picky with a restaurant's consistency in their food and Taylor's never disappoints. Their prime rib is amazing and their service is always top notch. This is one place I hope never changes... ever. I love it the way it is and will continue to revisit. This visit was my 4th in the past 8 months.
The service was slow and our food was sent back twice.
old world atmosphere and traditional menu... steaks and prime rib were top notch, and the sides were worth it. restaurant in a questionable area, but much better value than the high end steak houses. nothing fancy, no need to dress up,...just great food.
Excellent quality and preparation. Good portion sizes. It's like a 1960's supper club. Red booths. Fun to visit. Convenient parking next to restaurant.
