The restaurant was chosen as one of of Chicago's Best New Restaurants in 2009/2010 by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine and the Chicago Reader. Additionally, Taxim's housemade yogurt with young favas and lamb confit was selected as one of the Best Bites of 2009 by the Chicago Reader, the house-cured sardines were mentioned in Time Out Chicago's 2009 "100 Best Things We Ate (and drank) This Year" feature, and the wood-grilled octopus was selected as 2010's "Best New Dish" by Chicago magazine. Additionally, chef-owner David Schneider appeared on the Food Network's "Iron Chef America" in April 2011 going head-to-head with Iron Chef Cat Cora.
It appeared that they were short staffed on the roof. It was a struggle to order drinks, get water, etc. But, the main problem was that a food runner brought a dish that we ordered requiring another step - he left with our dish to the kitchen and it never returned. When were able to track down our server - 20 minutes later - we had to explain that it should be removed from the bill - at that point we were finished and didn’t want to wait however long for a “re-do”. No manager came by, etc. - it was very disappointing to see how the mishap was handled.
We live in the neighborhood and had been meaning to try for a while. After eating here, we really wish we had tried it sooner! Very tasty food, and interesting dishes compared to your “normal” Mediterranean/Greek places that most people expect. Great for sharing, and a really great wine list. Special note is the tzaziki which was so good, we ordered a second!
Amazing experience, superb service, outstanding ambience...
Pretty good overall. Not the best food in wicker by any means but good. One thing though that really bothered me is the pita they served was freezing cold and rock hard. It was basically inedible. Little details like that are what would prevent me from going back.
Delicious, creative Greek/Middle Eastern food. We got a variety of small plates for our group to share. While each person had their favorite, it was all great. Lovely space on ground level, it was too windy for the rooftop. Service was very good. They have a huge selection of Greek wines.
Consistently wonderful food, with unique dishes you can't find at most of the other Greek restaurants in the Chicago area. The loukoumades are a must for dessert!
Amazing rooftop deck. Service was just ok, food was good but not amazing
Fantastic rooftop and chill and efficient service. Great idea for small plates to try a lot of different items. Great unique cocktails. Very welcoming.
The server over sold us on the amount of food to order, so the meal ended up being too much food and too expensive. The food itself was very good. The order of serving the food was very poor, because an appetizer or small plate came after a main dish had been served, and the lamb chops were served before the fish. It was really quite a jumble. We ate in the dining room which was very dimly lit and lacked a pleasant ambiance.
Good food, great service, excellent wine list. Romantic ambiance in the rooftop area. Definitely recommend, will be returning.
Love the local spot on the top deck having some good wine, fresh grilled fish and great chicken. Great vibe on a beautiful night to sit outside and enjoy the local Bucktown flavor.; Always a goto for people in the neighborhood .
Everything about this restaurant is amazing! The rooftop dining, music and decor transported us to a Greek isle. The food is out of this world; wait staff superb; overall a wonderful way to celebrate a family birthday.
Very tasty food! Excellent service! Overall great experience!
I have absolutely no idea why this restaurant was named one of Chicago’s 50 best restaurants by Chicago mag
Dined on the rooftop and enjoyed a gorgeous summer evening. The rooftop ambiance is modern and urban. It is fairly close to the blue line tracks, so the noise levels can be high, but the food is fantastic. My friend and I shared fantastic small plates. Lamb kabobs were wonderfully seasoned. Good wine, too.
Excellent food, excellent service as always! Thank you.
Service was superb! Food was delicious! I will be back soon!
Unbelievable service. Remarkable food with an exploding flavor sensation. Simply the best.
It was very good
Love the rooftop. Creative dishes. Friendly staff. Head and shoulders above Greektown fare
If you're looking for Mediterranean cuisine in the Wicker Park area, look no further! The Lamb Chops are an absolute must. The servers are really accommodating and are very helpful navigating through the Greek varietals on the wine list. Definitely worth the excursion!
Excellent food and service. Exceptional rooftop dining
Way too warm
Super-loud ... we love this place but our most recent visit was terrible. Sat next to the hallway to the bathroom and couldn’t even hear my friend across the table. Need some sound dampening tapestries or something to help improve the atmosphere.
Amazing atmosphere. Food is delicious. Service needs a little help.
Best meal I have had in a long time. Definitely a must try in Wicker Park. Lamb chops were the most delicious I have ever had and everything else was simply delicious. I knew when I caught the aroma of the food when I walked in that the meal was going to be amazing. Can't believe I waited to long to try Taxim. I will definitely be going back.
The rooftop was perfect and in the shade. Food is tasty and not just the usual Greek fare you’d get in Greektown. I’m of Greek ancestry and definitely consider it more authentic
Delicious, fresh and unique food in a charming atmosphere. Delightful!
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Taxim with our niece, who is a vegetarian. Taxim offers a lot of vegetarian options and our server was also very accommodating about special requests. We especially enjoyed the eggplant spread and the arugula salad. The bread is really delicious also. And so was dessert--we shared an order of loukoumades--Greek donuts in (I think) a honey butter sauce. Yum! We don't get to Taxim enough (not in our neighborhood), but we are always happy when we have an opportunity to eat there.
Before a play at the Den
Taxim offers creative new takes on traditional Greek dishes. Whereas most Greek places offer the standard souvlaki, lamb, pastitsio and the like, Taxim updates classic Greek restaurant fare while still staying true to their origins. In addition, the wine list is well curated and focused on current modern innovative Greek wines. Attentive service and a comfortable dining room round out the experience, while the roof deck is a great place for cocktails and mezedes.
I ordered the lamb chops. The very best Ihave eaten yet.
The plate had a starch ( couscous, farro) with almonds and spiced with cinnamon. Absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the whole sea bass. It was fileted for him. The fish was delicious, but only a very little spinach accompanied the fish. That plate would have benifited from some kind of grain or starch. Overall the food was very good but quite pricy.
Braised Lamb was amazing! Nice chill vibe, the Greek Beer tasted great.
Second time at taxim and each time has been just as enjoyable as the last. Excellent food, I think they change the menu based on seasonality. Excellent assortment of Greek wines. Only drawback was the waitress was kind of slow. It took a long time to get our bill. Otherwise, sensational experience with truly authentic Greek cuisine.
I love going to Taxim. The regional Greek cuisine is so interesting and well-prepared. The sea bass is consistently perfect. The lentils with goat cheese is always an essential. This time we tried the marathopita kritis, which topped everything. We love the rooftop, too, in the summer months, and even in Spring and Fall...there are heaters.
We had a really hard time actually getting seated and having anyone come to the table. I’ve been to Taxim before so this truly was disappointing.
Excellent food. Nice night on the roof deck although it quickly turned cold and we had to get indoors. Service was excellent. We will return.
The homemade yogurt with caramelized mandarin and walnuts was delicious! I loved the rooftop on a nice day!
Great food, nice server , beautiful night so the roof top was great
Went to Taxim for my birthday with three others, and were extremely happy with the choice. There was not one bite all night that we didn't love. The grape leaf wrapped shrimp and the lamb kabob were so good that we put in another order for each. The only thing we didn't love were the cocktails. Next time will stick with Greek beer, but there will definitely be a next time.
