Everything about this place is amazing. The decor is beautiful, the lighting is perfect and our waitress was exceptional. The fried cauliflower and roasted octopus are so amazing. Go. There. Now.
Loved it. Creative Greek menu items. Wonderful service. Took care of all needs related to gluten-free, and food sensitivities. Cozy and close dining room. Highly Recommend. And only 1 block from Damen Blue Line station....convenient Bucktown location.
Food was tasty. Table wasn’t in the most ideal spot, by the hallway near the bathroom hall. First seated by the kitchen door😒 I wasn’t a fan of eating off of chipped plates. Our food came out on chopped plates. Very unsanitary.
I love this restaurant, everything is fresh and home made. Contemporary Greek in a lovely setting.
Server cleared full of plates of uneaten food. Tasted like all items were deep fried. So many good Greek options in Chicago. Do not waste your money. Staff was all sitting down enjoying wine and cocktails together, not caring about their guests.
Impressive food and excellent, attentive service as always!
Taxim is a Wicker Park neighborhood gem! My friends and I dined here last Friday night, and we had absolutely loved our experience.
With my Greek red wine, my Vegan self dined on hummus, eggplant spread, semolina bread, and veggies. Everything was delicious, and I especially recommend the hummus!
Overall, Taxim is the perfect spot for a Girl’s Night Out, cou Hey Bethany! What’s your email address? You will be getting an email from me, Kiley, the marketing coordinator! ld be romantic for a date night, and would be fabulous for a crowd!
Not that I don't like Greektown, but this is a restaurant far apart from that. So different, drawing on authentic Greek traditions, yet still creative. A wonderful variety of mezes and mains. An astounding list of Greek (and Macedonian) wines, though I would have liked more by-the-glass selections (and lower prices). And everything was delicious; duck gyros might have been the best gyros I've ever had. I liked the Byzantine ambiance, with muted colors. It was quiet when we went (early on a Thursday) so, if you don't like noise, I'd recommend that time frame. Service was attentive and very knowledgeable. Prices are typical for a restaurant of this quality. I can't wait to go back again and again to work my way through the menu.
Kitchen was slow. Service was intermittent.
Amazing food and great service!!!!
This restaurant really expands on the definition of Greek food typically served in other restaurants in Chicago. Makes for a wide variety of interesting and tasty food. Our service was attentive and helpful. The only negative was the sound of the low battery smoke detector in the background. Otherwise enjoyed the evening and will be back.
Overall, the experience was good. Service was a little slow but the food and atmosphere was nice.
The yogurt is absolutely incredible.
Great restaurant and vibe; variety of tasty small plates and an extensive Greek wine list.
Our waitress though was horrible (short girl, short dark hair) and seemed bothered when we asked for an explanation on the wines and even more so when we asked about a few dishes. She almost seemed annoyed that we didn’t know more about Greek cuisine...
Five stars though to the busser staff; those guys were moving nonstop filling out waters and clearing plates. Wish they were our waiters.
Great restaurant, great food, one horrible server
The food is outstanding being essentially Greek but with inventive combinations and flavors. Portions for some things can be large however that helps with sharing which is a great way to sample many of their delicious offerings. There are plenty of "small plates" for those who like that type of dining. We don't drink cocktails so I cannot comment on those choices but the wine list is very good. Parking in the area can be very tight and when full the place is noisy. Neither would keep me away.
I had been to Taxim twice before and only had good experiences, but this time I was quite a bit disappointed. First of all, they seated my 2 sisters and I at a table that was in the most awkward spot and I felt like I was sitting in the walkway between the door and the hostess. I asked if there was another table we could sit at and their answer was "only if we want to wait 40 minutes". There really shouldn't have been a table in this spot at all. The food was very good, as it had been the 2 times I came before, but the waiter service was definitely wanting. Our waiter was not very attentive.
I went there with a date on a Saturday night. Overall, disappointing unfortunately. It was as though several wait-staff had just walked off the job because there appeared to be only two servers on the floor. We ordered a bottle of wine and two appetizers. The appetizers came 20 minutes apart and the server was avoiding us. It was kind of funny actually. Food was decent, but probably won't go there again.
We have walked past this restaurant many times and did not realize it was there. Wow what a find. We were looking for something healthier in general and found this for convenience to something else we were doing. Well it turns out it was right next door. We will absolutely come back not just for the proximity to our other place but because the food was so good as was the service.
No flaming cheese in sight but super food and very good Greek wine. Knowledgeable server too. Ambiance leaves a bit to be desired but I’d definitely return next time I’m in town.
The service and food at Taxim are consistently great. The wait staff are attentive, warm and knowledgeable about the food and wines. The food is so flavorful and the blend of fresh herbs and spices in each dish we ordered was far above expectations. This Greek restaurant is unlike others we have tried. The preparation, quality and flavors are definitely worth trying. I highly recommend Taxim.
We enjoyed our time
The meltzanosalata and fish ( sea bass) were very good.
Hoewver, the taramolalata tasted/was a little more fishy than usual.
Great Mediterranean style foods. Excellent flavor. Friendly and helpful staff.
Densely packed, I suspect because everyone wants to eat here. And noisy!
We will return.
I loved this restaurant. The only thing I didn’t like was the hard wooden bench with the big pillows. It’s very chic, but for me it was uncomfortable.
If that’s the worse thing I could think of you know this place is awesome. I will definitely go back and sit in a chair next time. I highly recommend this place.
Went for my moms birthday - The mastica cocktail was excellent! The food was also great. We shared a few of the appetizers, the octopus and sea bass. Our server was very friendly and she knew the menu very well. Had some great suggestions. This is definitely a place where you want to share meals because you want to try everything!!
We also had dessert - ice cream, the chocolate halva (my favorite) and the loukoumades. The loukoumades could have been a little warmer but the density of them were great.
Overall it was an excellent experience and everyone left happy!
The food at Taxim is consistently excellent. The menu interesting and inviting. Greek wine choices make for a great discovery. Toe favorite dishes are wood grilled octopus and grilled lamb chops with bulgar pilaf.
The food was not as authentic as we had hoped. The grilled Octopus was over salted, the hummus unremarkable. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was perfect. The pork shoulder was very chewy. The braised lamb shank was good and if you are eating there that would be a good option. Taxim needs to spend a little more time working on spices and flavor.
Really good and different Greek food and wine. The okra was honestly delicious; may have been the best I have ever had. Change the name of the duck gyros- it was good but not what the name leads you to expect. Very nice and helpful waitress, too. I recommend!
Food and service was excellent. The only problem was food took a long time to come out. If you are in a hurry not the place to go.
Taxim is really trendy. The food is good and aesthetically appealing. You are recommended to order everything at once because the kitchen is small, so you kind of have to guesstimate at how much you want.
My husband and I went to Taxim for a Saturday night dinner date and were very happy with our choice. We sat on the patio upstairs, which had a great ambiance. It was fairly quiet despite being sandwiched in between Milwaukee Ave and the blue line. We started with the tzatziki with homemade pita, beer salad, and the artichokes and fingerling potatoes, all of which were delicious. However, the star of the night was our shared plates for dinner. We got the octopus and the pork belly and both were outstanding. Quite possibly one of the best meals we have ever had. We would definitely recommend Taxim and hope to be back soon.
The food was on point... service needs some improvement...i understand the rooftop was busy but there are patrons downstairs as well
We've been several times to Taxim. Each time we try something new. It's all been really good!
This was an overall terrible experience. We were visiting Chicago and saw that Taxim had be favorably reviewed by the New York Times a year ago so we made a reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated on the rooftop patio which is very nice. We were greeted by a very kind waitress and ordered wine and an appetizer. Twenty minutes later the appetizer had not arrived but the waitress took our dinner order and suggested a few items from the menu. We also asked that a heater be placed near our table (there were already some near other tables) since it was getting dark it was getting a bit cooler on the rooftop.
The appetizer finally arrived and was good. A second item we ordered never arrived and neither did a heater to our table. Our entrees finally arrived after a very long wait. One entree was a whole fish and the food runner asked if we wanted it filleted (the menu said it would be). We said "yes" and he promptly took it away and sat it down on the bar where the waitress and the hostess took turns filleting it with a butter knife and returned it to the table about 20 minutes later very cold. The other entree we ordered, a lamb shank was covered in an absurd amount of greek yogurt and was not good either. The waitress removed the fish and the other dinner item which never showed up from our bill. She provided decent service although nothing could have repaired the rest of our dining experience at Taxim.
Super good food. Small portions to share. Took octopus twice (amazing!) Try their funky wine made from pine (very unique taste). Not that expensive (4 people = 160$ tax + tips + 1 bottle of wine). Highly recommended! 9.5/10
Overall a good experience, food was cold and had to be remade. sat on outside patio on roof, no elevator, and two flights up. presentation of food was nice and tasty.
Surprisingly great. The menu is confusing as it has a lot of authentic names but once you get past that and figure out what to order the food is fantastic.
Hands down, Best Greek food in Chicago ! From the food to the cozy rooftop dining and outstanding table service, Taxim is high on our list !
Our family went here after seeing a play at the Den theatre just down the street.
Food and service were excellent. The menu had lots of interesting items. Everything was fresh.
My only complaint, was that it was a hot, muggy night and the AC could have been stronger.
We'll come back for sure!
Get a rooftop table upstairs or go elsewhere. Great rooftop view, very european feel. Service very slow and not real attentive. Food is not great. Second time for me in last year and both equally disappointing food. We had 5 people (all Greeks) and not one standout item. Some items were disappointing at best. I am Greek and I find Greektown to be OK, not great. However, Greektown food at most Halstead Street restaurants is significantly better Than Taxim. In Chicago, we need more chef driven Greek restaurants like NYC - Milos and Pylos are two awesome choices in NYC.
If the weather is good, go here request rooftop and eat light, if you want better Greek food go to greektown - Greek Islands or Santorini- or better yet, NYC.
