What Insiders Are Saying
Great Greek food outside of Greektown. What a novel idea.
Really nice Greek food with a twist. Had a wonderful service, food was fresh, will go back for sure.
Worst meal in Chicago I’ve ever had! It was a disaster. Terrible service, food came cold, waitress dropped a dirty knife on my friend, and a lamb chop was raw.
We were excited to try this place as it is in a great location and has a fantastic roof top. We arrived on time for our reservations. Seated quickly however it took 25 mins to get our first drink. My husband and I thought someone was playing a joke on us. We watched as multiple staff members walked by our table. Then we had to finally get someone to take our order. I would say maybe that the staff wasn't sure who the table was assigned to but we noticed this was happening to the surrounding guests also. They had plenty of staff available. After we finally received our drinks, we then ordered our main dishes. It was taking so long that we tracked down our server and asked for an appetizer. Bread- which then took 10 mins. Once the main courses came out, both were presented well however the chicken was way, way over cooked. Almost rubber. Sad to write this review but after spending $150 for two people plus a tip, we would have hoped for more.
The food was AMAZING! Couldn’t understand anything on the menu but everything we ate was delicious. The rooftop was awesome. Highly recommend. Will be back!
Everything about our experience was incredible - we will most certainly be back!
Food was mediocre, service non existent even though we were the only customers in the store, too expensive for what they offer. Not a true Greek place as it has a great influence of middle east-Turkey.
Friend and I went to Taxim for a late-night dinner. The service was pretty poor - we had to ask for napkins, the appetizer that came out was wrong and we had to flag someone to ask for it to be corrected. The rest of the food was pretty good but nothing memorable.
Everything was delicious! Just returned from a trip to Greece and the food here was just as good! Service was excellent. Nice wine list. Decor was interesting. Lively space.
They were worried to sit us outside with rain in the forecast, however it didn’t rain. Once we were seated it took about five minutes to be greeted. They forgot one of our two appetizers, after the first appetizer was brought to our table our waitress disappeared for a good 20-30 minutes. Much like us, the table next to us was wondering where she went. Finally our waitress acknowledged us and with the fear of having to wait even more we asked for the bill. Of course, the bill had the second appetizer that we never received which was thankfully taken off the bill once we had mentioned it. Honestly, was really hoping for a good rooftop experience but will say the service in our first experience will likely keep us from coming back.
Came here on a weeknight and wanted to sit up on the rooftop. The indoor space was empty but the roof was filled with people!
It tooka while for a server to finally come and ask us for our drinks and order but it was quite busy. We ordered two red wines and three dishes - calamari, grilled shrimp, and duck gyro. We were hoping to have the cauliflower dish but they were out of that. The food was really really good. The shrimp was grilled to perfection and the calamari tasted really great (especially for someone who doesn't usually like calamari).
I would definitely come back here again for the food. I hope the service speeds up a bit.
Loved the rooftop . Good food . Fun . Good for people watching . Interesting menu options
One of my favorites restaurants in all of Chicago. Not your typical Greek fare but every dish we've had has been a hit. Whenever we have guests in from out of town this is always on the rotation. Love the rooftop seating. Small but very interesting wine list that the staff can help you with. Highly recommended.
Always fun to sit on Taxim's rooftop, and when the weather is nice you can't beat the location and wide range of mezzes!
So loud inside it was difficult to have a conversation
Such a gorgeous restaurant! The pace was leisurely but not slow, and the outdoor seating was pleasant with the beautiful weather. We especially loved the food - weren’t sure what to expect when we ordered, but both our dishes were delicious!
Had an excellent experience at Taxim, on the rooftop deck. Wanted to reserve the next dinner before we left. I highly recommend the grilled octopus and lamb chops. Next time I will save some room for desert! I usually drink Sauvignon Blanc and they had something comparable that was delicious! Ask James- he’ll know which one it is. He was our first class server!
Can’t wait to have another dinner here!
Took daughter and her family for her birthday. We have been there previously and loved everything about the place. This time, no air conditioning so room was uncomfortably warm. Service was inattentive and unfocused. Food was very good but other issues really spoiled the evening. Probably won’t go back.
I love bringing people here. It's a great sharing place, it always pleasantly surprises guests, and the food is consistently good!
Very nice outdoor patio. Romantic and quaint. Wait staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Overall great experience and would recommend to any of my friends/family.
Unique and interesting take on Greek food. Enjoyed the rooftop deck, where it was quiet. Main dining room was very loud. Great service.
Great place to explore Greek cuisine!
Nice Greek menu - excellent service, would definitely come back!!!
Excellent Mediterranean menu that was unique and flavorful! Waitress guided us as to what to try and she was spot on! We ordered a few appetizers and entrees and shared among 5 people. It had a Gourmet choices for Mediterranean menu. Just so different and much better than the basic Falafal and Souvlaki! Prices not cheap, $10-$15/entree, so bill adds up. But was so worth a special occasion. Wines were great too! And the desserts! Out of this world!
It took us an hour to even get an appetizer which was olives.
Great food!! Nice ambience!! Congrats!!
Service was very poor. We didn’t receive our drinks until being there for a half hour. Food came out cold and with understanding this is a tapas restaurant, however, a friend’s salad was the last to arrive. She was not participating in the shared plates and the waitress knew that so having her salad come out ~15 minutes after our food was not acceptable. Won’t be back.
We enjoyed the food very much. The appetizers / spreads, etc. were terrific. I made a major error with the Duck Gyro. Surprisingly it comes like a fried roll. It was not good. The meat itself was not very tasty either.
I will be back to the restaurant and I look forward to ordering something different.
Fun time! Great food!
Taxim was recommended to me by one of my friends who feels the food and drink were the most authentic he’s had outside of Greece, and I have to agree! Food, wine, service and ambience were amazing! I’ve passed by so many times outside and not realized what it was - exterior could use a slight facelift to draw attention, though maybe that’s what they’re going for as it was incredibly busy! Can’t wait to try the rooftop!
The chef is well trained but his service staff out front isn’t. My wife is Greek and we frequent Greek places in the city and North burbs. The menu offerings are interesting and out of the ordinary; actually quite special. They do not allow you to bring wine in which is too bad because I am a wine lover. They do have an impressive wine list (but who knows Greek wines?) and no one on the staff seemed to have a clue about their wine. I asked for wine advice and got attitude from the young manager (acted like daughter of owner) AND offered bad advice. 😞
Our server was very helpful with recommending a bottle of wine and a few dishes for us to share. Everything was delicious.
After she took our orders for appetizers our waitress disappeared. I had to ask the hostess to hunt her down and she couldn't find her. Eventually someone else came and took our order. Our waitress came back later and didn't act like she had been MIA or apologize. The hostess gave us a few cookies on the house to apologize but overall was not impressed to return.
We were really disappointed by the service here. It
was not a busy night at all but it took at least 15 minutes for a waiter to see us after we were seated and at least 25 minutes between ordering our drinks and receiving them. They gave our appetizer to the table next to us. Those people touched the food and almost started eating it before waiter realized and to it back... They walked it away but then brought it right back and put it on our table...
They also walked all around the restaurant with my entree, confused about whose it was.
Way too expensive for service provided.
We will not return.
The food and the staff were wonderful. We started with a series of small plates to share. After tasting 5 small plates, we also shared and entree and dessert. We will definately return when we return to the Chicago area.
The food was very good, but most of it was lukewarm at best. I believe it was the waitress’ first day, so I’d like to give it another chance.
Overall experience at Taxim was very good. Loved the food, especially the ARNI YUVETSAKI ME KRITHARAKI (braised lamb shank). However, there were several things on the menu that they were out of including all but one of the pastry section. Also we had an 8:00 reservation and the website said they are open until 10:30PM; however, the kitchen closed around 9:00 which was disappointing because we were sharing items and would have liked to try more.
Very noisy ! Hard to hear ! Appetizers were good, but
main entrees were very disappointing! Next time will
probably just go to Greek Town !
Everything about this place is amazing. The decor is beautiful, the lighting is perfect and our waitress was exceptional. The fried cauliflower and roasted octopus are so amazing. Go. There. Now.
We had not been to Taxim for quite a while and were delighted that when we brought out-of-town family with us there, it was absolutely as good as we remembered, and then some. Delicious small plates, creative vegetable preparations, everything fresh and also great service. Our guests are still talking about the meal and look forward to going to Taxim again when they come back to Chicago.
Loved it. Creative Greek menu items. Wonderful service. Took care of all needs related to gluten-free, and food sensitivities. Cozy and close dining room. Highly Recommend. And only 1 block from Damen Blue Line station....convenient Bucktown location.
