Heard a lot of good things about this place, however it didn’t live up to the hype. Took 15 mins from first sitting down for anyone to take a drink order. Food came before drinks. Only food to recommend is the hummus and cauliflower. The duck gyros were tasteless. Luckily they put enough sauce on the plate to drown the fact there is no seasoning. Overall would not recommend this restaurant. I feel cheated out of $100 for food. You can get better food from I dream of falafel or taste of Lebanon in Andersonville. Definitely not going back.
We ate on the rooftop on a cold night in Jan and it was very warm!
Always amazing and especially so during covid. And they use real menus which really elevated the experience.
They were not following Covid protocol. The place was packed. Tables were super close and no ventilation
Everything was so great!
Birthday dinner
Love this during Covid. So nice. So safe. Great food.
Excellent food and service. The roof top is well conditioned for covid19 restrictions.
Incredible Greek food with a lovely atmosphere. Get the kebabs and the tzatziki app
Nice friendly/fun atmosphere. The food was good
Sat for over 20 minutes with no server. Reserved table was essentially in a stairway.
Food was excellent! Took my family here for dinner who was visiting and they want to make it a tradition. Extremely impressive authentic wine list. Had a great experience!
AMAZING restaurant. Everything was so good. Some of the best Greek food I have ever had.
We ate on the roof on a chilly (55 degree) night and were plenty warm with all the outdoor heaters around the tables. Had three items and they were all delicious:
- the roasted octopus
- the beef kabobs
- the braised lamb shank
Service was fine. Value was very good.
I had heard great things about Taxim and was excited to try, but I was ultimately disappointed. Upon arrival there was a police officer out front taking names. This was odd, but we shrugged it off. While all of the food was quite good, it just wasn’t worth the price tag. Due to COVID they are also charging an automatic 25% gratuity that is then taxed. And lastly, there were not 6ft distance between tables. This made us very uncomfortable, especially as we were dining indoors. I wanted to like Taxim so much, and I think I could if they improved these things, but ultimately the price tag and COVID-related precautions made my experience poor.
Our reservation was at eight and the host must have forgotten about us because we did not get seated until an HOUR later when we reminded him we were still waiting outside. It was a very poor experience. We watched as he seated numerous people who showed up long after we did.
Taxim was amazing and our server Chris was incredible. He knew his wine and helped us have a wonderful experience.
Amazing food & amazing service
I have been to this restaurant twice and had the same server. He truly was amazing! I don’t usually write reviews. They make mocktails which is an added bonus!
We have been going to Taxim for 10 years and the food is always excellent!
Service is a bit slow but foo
Incredible food awesome down to earth knowledgeable servers.
Every plate that hit the table was exceptional- aside from the mains (lamb shank and fish gyro- lamb shank lacked spices (odd for a Greek establishment) and fish gyros were bland and overcooked).
James is amazing! He gave us great wine recommendations for both our meal and dessert. Was a little chilly the night we were there, but they had heaters spaced out to add some warmth. All in all great experience!
You cannot get food like that offered at Taxim at any other Greek restaurant in Chicago because the food here eclipses every other Greek restaurant in this city & I have enjoyed a lot of Greek food in my 56 years of my eating. Standards like chicken, lamb chops, octopus & roasted fish are excellent but treat yourself to the more unusual dishes that offer complexity & savory intensity. The menu changes seasonally but our current favorites are:
AHANODOLMADES Lamb and rice stuffed fermented cabbage
MARATHÓPITA KRÍTIS Cretan pastry
Any PEYNIRLÍ
GARÍDES SE ABELÓFYLLA DOLMÁDES Fresh grape leaf-wrapped shrimp
HTAPODÁKI STI SGÁRA Octopus
AGRIOGURUNO ME STRIFTOUDIA Oven roasted wild boar
Fish Gyro
TSIPOÚRA ME RADÍKIA Oven-roasted whole Aegean sea bass
And don't forget the desserts, which are also quite delicious. The rooftop patio is heated so enjoy it before winter hits. The only downsides are that you will bring home the smell of the oven, the Retsina list is a bit sparse at the moment, tables are not quote 6 feet apart if that is an issue & mask rules aren't always enforced for customers. None of these, however, are reasons to avoid the delights of Taxim. And please keep ordering takeout & delivery when the weather turns cold because we cannot afford to lose a restaurant as stellar as Taxim!
Lovely rooftop with heat lamps. Great service with delicious food. The lamb shank in yogurt was amazing. We also enjoyed the smoky eggplant dip and lamb souvlaki. The bread was not a highlight.
I took a special friend here for dinner on Labor Day and we were both so happy with our experience. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. We shared the wood-grilled shrimp dolmades and the prossópita for starters - great choices. I'm going back to try everything wood-grilled. We both had lamb for dinner - he had the chops and I had the shank and there wasn't anything left on/in either plate/bowl. For dessert, he had the chocolate halva and I had the boughatsa - both terrific. We will definitely be back. It was great fun to eat on the roof, even with the chilly weather.
Absolutely outstanding experience, service and food! Highly recommend Taxim for its experience and truly authentic cuisine.
We had a beautiful night to enjoy the terrace.
We ordered lamb shank, grilled octopus, wild boar and an excellent white Macedonian wine. I loved everything except the boar. The octopus and lamb ate stellar! Last time I was there, I had the lamb chops and they were excellent!
I would definitely order the wine again too.
Our server, James is the BEST! Thank you for taking good care of us!!
Food was extremely late and forgot our appetizer. Drinks were good but everything else was overpriced.
Great food on the rooftop! This was our second time dining at Taxim and it didn’t disappoint. Don’t miss the octopus and the flatbreads.
Food was okay/good. Mixed drinks/cocktails were average.
great patio and delicious food! some favorites include the mussels, phyllo pastry, sea bass, tzatziki and cauliflower.
Food was decent. We were hoping the food was going to be a lot more flavorful... almost every dish just seemed to be missing something. Ambiance and service wasn’t bad, but I definitely didn’t find the value to be worth what we paid.
Great experience
Great take on greek food with very cool ambiance (rooftop is great)
Great restaurant! Roof top was great! Service excellent!
Beautiful rooftop, epic, authentic food and wine!
Exceptional Greek cuisine! Nothing else like it in Chicago. Romantic rooftop dining and professional friendly service. A must visit!
Amazing food and interesting wine list. Have been there about 5 times over the years and have consistently had high expectations exceeded..wish it was closer to where I live, but when I am in the area I seek Taxim out
