Tavolino Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
The food and wine were excellent. Service was excellent and, especially so, because we had a French-speaking waiter that could make our guests from Paris, France feel comfortable and explain the menu items to them. Terrific!
We did not like the table assigned to us. It was adjacent to the entry door and welcoming podium. Very noisy and very drafty with people coming and going. We felt uncomfortable and could not arrange another table. The reservation was made early, so we should have had a better seating arrangement. Very disappointed with the table location. Otherwise a great dining experience. We will come again but will not accept being seated so close to the entry door. Thanks.
This is one of our favorite restaurants and arguably the best and most authentic Italian dining experience in Tucson. We started with the octopus appetizer, followed by a whole Branzino and a seafood stew. Everything was delicious!
We enjoy a vodka before dinner and this place provides a generous poor, although expect to pay accordingly. There is also a wonderful wine list and great selection by the glass. Jon will help you make a great choice.
Servers are also great and the ambiance is too!
My wife said her fish was good but my lasagna was not remarkable. For an Italian restaurant I was expecting to be really wowed. The small table was close to a drafty window and lacked much elbow room. Good selection of wine and alcoholic drinks but that drove the price up to my budget limit for the occasion. The server was very attentive and always one step ahead of us. I could overlook anything but the expensive tab.
A very nice restaurant on the north side of Tucson. We had a party of 6 and all of us enjoyed our meals. Our waiter was attentive, but not overly so. The only thing I ran into was that I had booked the reservation on Open Table. I called the restaurant to see if I could move the reservation to a half hour later, no problem. When we got to the restaurant the hostess was not aware of the later time. No problem seating us, but we were marked as a no show in the system. So just a bit of a communication problem, it didn't impact the quality of service or the food. Just a side note to make sure the hostess is aware it was originally booked on Open Table, change of time, and that we indeed did show up for a good meal!
Server was brusque and not friendly. She got the job done but didn’t make me feel welcome. I felt very much in her way, actually. The food was very good. With one drink, a shared appetizer and a pasta dish, the bill was very high - in my opinion. Atmosphere was nice, parking ample and the people who worked around the server to clear the table and in general make sure things were going well, were great.
Traveling to Tucson for some hiking and relaxation. We are vegetarians and were very pleased with the options here. The service was excellent from start to finish and our server was knowledgeable and his timing perfect. Thanks for the wonderful memory from Tucson.
i have always loved Tavolino. this was supposed to be a special occasion; we asked for a quiet cozy table, and your hostesses stood and had a chat IN FRONT OF US about where to seat us, and then led us to a table in the middle of the room, elbow to elbow with others. we asked to move, and they put us near the door, with reluctance and another conversation in front of us. altogether an UNPLEASANT experience. it very much spoiled the occasion, and i won't count on Tavolino for good service or a good time any longer. the food was, in addition, sub par in my experience. don't go hear for a special occasion; they are uneven, and i can't recommend it. everything about tavolino's on this last experience has shown a steep decline.
The waiters are clearly not professional waiters. I asked for a fork (was missing from my silverware...only had a knife in the napkin) and never got it. Someone gave me theirs. The food was okay—not spectacular—and a glass of wine was $13. At the end of the night, we spent a fair amount of money for slightly better than mediocre food and lackluster service and ambience.
Tavolino ambiance is upbeat. Unfortunately, the cuisine is not has professional or yummy as previous visits. DO NOT order the octopus. It was terrible and overdone. Such a shame because it used to be lovely. The pasta was not hot. Be sure to specify hot if you want it warm or hot. Summary, great people watching with service and wine options often better than the food.
This was the third time that we were there in the past year. It is a beautiful restaurant. The service is attentive. However each time we have been there the food has been less than expectations, overcooked, under cooked, and nothing remarkable about its flavor. Last night specifically, Polipo alla Griglia was tough and chewy, and probably overdone. Next, was the Cotoletta Milanese, which was probably pounded into oblivion and then over cooked. The server was very attentive brought over possibly a manager, Who I asked to taste and he agreed. yes they gave us credit for both, but since this was our third time – three strikes and you are out Tavolino. We had high expectations, but there were low deliverables.
First, don't park below the big sign with the restaurant's name. It's around the back.
Spacious, comfortable space that's not overly fussy but has some glamour.
Everyone enjoyed their meals although myself, a bit less than my companions.
I'd classify it as very good but far from excellent. Good sized portions. Big menu selection
Our waiter forget things on several occasions and, a high crime, in one case it took way too long to bring our drinks...and the place was maybe 25% full.
Patio seating with heaters.
We love good Italian food and dine out frequently. Tavalino is at the top of our list for the best Italian dining in Tucson. Before Tucson we lived in both New York and Chicago, both of which have great Italian restaurants. Tavalino reminds us of those dining experiences.
We have dined there several times previously and enjoyed it. This time it was a disappointment. Our seats near the bar section, were being drummed with Disco big bass sounds. When we asked if there was some other music, we were told that this was what the owner wanted and no volume or selections could be made. Let him dine by himself, I don't think we will return.
We have eaten many times at Tavolino. The food is always excellent and generally the service is excellent. On this occasion, the service was not up to its usual standards. It took unusually long to order as we couldn't find out waiter. It also seemed that it took very long for the food to come out even though the restaurant was not particularly busy. There was no obvious manager watching the floor or keeping an eye on things. I hope this situation is remedied the next time we come in. Thanks
the atmosphere was pretentious. The food was good-not great. The salad that was featured was too spicy for us to eat.
We tried to use our gift card to include the gratuity and could not so we didn't like that.
Our server was great.
I probably will not go back. It is not the best Italian food we have eaten.
Dinner with friends (all local residents) was a typical experience. The food and service were just fine and the noise level was perhaps lower than on other visits. Competition from a recently opened restaurant in the same area may have taken some customers away, but over time they will continue to support Tavolino. It is one of Tucson's best restaurants.
We were there on Xmas Eve, and even though the restaurant was very busy, food and service were excellent. Three out of four of our party are vegetarians, and we all found something to our taste.
Even though it was Christmas Eve, I couldn’t resist my favorite mushroom, potato, and rosemary pizza. Sounds weird, butt it’s outstanding!
