The food was delicious and unusual, the waiters very efficient and courteous, the environment conducive to conversation, but the tablecloths left lint all over our clothes! That needs changing.

We keep going back because the food never disappoints. The specials are particular stand-outs so listen to the list carefully. Check for the schedule of music; we were treated to a guitar duo on one Saturday night who were fabulous. Parking is easy and the ability to have a conversation with your dining companions is a huge plus.

The meal, Caesar salad w/chicken was quite good. Coffee was just o.k., would not order dessert again. Bread pudding way too sweet and the chocolate mousse was mostly whipped cream from a can.

Good food although I have never been to Portugal. I have made two visits. I have had the strip steak, which was not very tender. The second time I had the Bacalau with peppers and rice. Lite taste and delicious.

A 70th birthday party for seven was turned into a special event. Tavira provided excellent service and the menu and food quality was appreciated by the guests. We will be back!

I've eaten here numerous times. Every time has been excellent. Whether for drinks and appetizers, a dinner date or a business meal, Tavira always delivers excellent service, a unique menu and delicious food. It's good to see that I'm not the only one that feels it is worth getting off the beaten path a little. It's not out of the way, but it stands alone, about 1.5 miles from downtown Bethesda. Free parking and hard to believe $7 & $8 lunch take-out options. Completely worth the trip -- every time. Do yourself and your friends/wife/colleagues a favor, eat at Tavira!

We had never been to Tavira but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the exceptional service. And as icing on the cake, there was a guitar duo playing Spanish and Brazilian pieces that we love.

The food was not well seasoned; hence, it was boring. The seafood was overcooked. Not worth the price. Not worth going back for more. The service was good while we were the only people there, but it deteriorated when a special party started. I could not get a refill of my water glass, and it took a long time to get our bill, even though we had told the waiter when we arrived that we had a time constraint.

Tavira is a gem. Excellent Portuguese food, fairly priced, in a quiet and pleasant room. As good as many lauded places, and quieter than most. If it weren't in the basement of a bank building in the burbs it would be mobbed all the time. Don't miss it.

Always very good cooking and pleasant service. Not much Portuguese cuisine in the area, so it is always nice to have such a reliable restaurant to return to for European/Mediterranean food. Wine list is also reasonably priced with a half-dozen vinho verdes. I had beef medallions in red wine sauce, and my friends had liver, pasta, and a fish of the day. Everyone really enjoyed their food Kudos to the chef. Not a "trendy" or glitzy play, and for those who prefer that, there are many choices in the DC area. In my opinion we need a few more places like Tavira, really good and good value.

As always, the food was delicious. For the most part, so was the service. The only problem with the service was a delay in getting the check and another delay in taking the payment. The service bringing our food was excellent. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant was relatively crowded, so the delays with the check were understandable, although inconvenient.

What a hidden gem! Went here for a birthday dinner because we like to try new places, and were pretty wowed. Good size menu with plenty of daily specials. We tried a lot of the offerings between the six of us and not one hit a sour note. Seemed like something for everyone, along with old-school service. I would recommend Tavira to anyone and will happily return.

Took my younger brother and his wife visiting from Portugal for dinner, food is always to our taste at Tavira and they also agreed with me, the free glass of Port at the end was a hit also and a surprise to my brother, as he said very rare or never in restaurants in Portugal.

Very good overall experience. I'm glad that I read in the reviews here ahead of time about the very strange location. The entrances and a parking garage of an office building. In the evenings it is free with plenty of space. The food is very good. I brought a friend who was visiting from Portugal and we were a little disappointed that there were no employees from Portugal other than the owner who was out of town for a month. The muscles were very good. My friend had the salted cod and said it was amazing and just like in Portugal. We went on a very hot evening and it was extremely hot in the restaurant. That took away quite a bit from the ambience but I'm sure on normal days it is much more pleasant. Good selection of Portuguese wines and ports at extremely good prices by the bottle.

If you want to really enjoy a quiet, drawn-out dinner with delicious food in a beautiful European ambiance, Tavira is your place. Not much around Tavira (unless you drive afterwards into DC or across a road to get to Bethesda, but parking is free and you can truly enjoy an evening of reasonably-priced fine dining. Highly recommend the NY Strip Madeira and the famous cod dinner. They have a great prix-fixe too with a nice chocolate cake with mango dessert. Excellent service and we'll definitely be back.

A pleasant restaurant with a Portuguese menu, good wine selection, and friendly service. It's inside an office building, which makes for very easy parking on the weekend since you can enter the restaurant directly from the parking garage. Good choice on the weekend for people with mobility issues.
