Taverna Plaka Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful time. The food is excellent. We had the flaming cheese, spanakopita, gyro plate, lobster ravioli, roasted lamb and Yaiyai chicken. It was excellent. The lamb was fork tender and the lemon potatoes were a treat. The flaming cheese was amazing. Everyone raves about their food. The entertainment and service were superb. It was a slow evening but the staff created the party atmosphere we were hoping for.
We had a large group dinner at Taverna Plaka. We went with the chef’s menu including appetizers and dessert. Everything was great from the salad to the flaming cheese to the lamb to the baklava. Service was impeccable. Mackenzie is a gem. Will return for sure.
We come there a lot, but this time our waitress was not good. She forgot about us. We waited forever for our food. The food we ordered was not good. We complained that we did not like it. And she did not seem to care or offer anything!! Even our son did not like his meal and he is 7. His chips with his chicken fingers came out soggy and his chicken fingers had no flavor and barely salted. We we loved the atmosphere but we were really disappointed in the service.
Ho-hum. The hummus was waaaaaay too dry and putty texture. Calamari was hard and the batter was not balanced. Whoever made the batter needs to check their measurements. The stuffed shrimp appetizer were the best thing that we had. This is not a restaurant for "foodies" or "gourmets".
My son and I went on Mother's Day and this was our first visit to this restaurant. The food and service was excellent and the environment is fun. We had the Saganaki which is the flaming cheese, humus, lamb chops and walnut cake. Everything was cooked to perfection and was very tasty. Dimitar took great care of us. Watching him celebrate the birthdays and including others, especially the children was an added bonus. It was a unique experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely go back again.
My friends and I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. The server had a lot going on as she was working two additional tables. She was not familiar with some things on the menu and she did acknowledge that. She did get an answer for the things she did not know. It took a while to get those biscuits, but they were WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!
My husband and I took my visiting parents for a Saturday night (830) dinner at taverna plaka and we all loved it! We have been many times and love to share this place with visitors and other locals who have missed out. We had the chefs combo tasting menu and it's a great sampling of the dishes here. The atmosphere is definitely energetic and loud and the crowd and music starts to pick up around 8/9 on weekends. Highly recommend for a fun night out!
Dined at Taverna Plaka for a birthday.
The restaurant is a ton of fun, energetic wait staff, fun music/DJ and belly dancers.
It is a great place to have fun, be loud, dance and, well - party!
The food is mediocre, and in my opinion overpriced. Not necessarily for portion size, but flavor and the quality of the food. Shrimp and gyro meat were dry, as well as the octopus app. The octopus app you can skip, and we like octopus.
The service is super friendly and fun, but somewhat sparse when needed.
I would go there again with good time friends for an event. It is truly fun. Absolutely fun.
But I would not go back there for a meal.
The great food was spot on; some of the best that I have had in quite a while. The Italian food was pretty good as well. We do not eat seafood but they have quite a large selection of it as well. The service was very friendly and quick. The manager checked on all tables including ours multiple times.
It was a belly dancer a couple of times during the hour and 15 minutes we were there. I did miss the old fashioned group dancing that would occur throughout the restaurant every hour or so.
We went for my sons 18th birthday and we had a blast. They allowed me to have a cake dropped off and brought it out when the time was right. The entire party (16 ppl) got up and danced, the food was delicious, the service was outstanding, the atmosphere was very energetic. HIGHLY recommended, you won't be disappointed.
I used to love this place. The food was so amazing, and a great value. I had not been in a few years, mostly bc so many new restaurants to try out. But the location was good this night and I was truly looking forward to the meal. The hummus which used to be made at the table is now pre-made and stale tasting. The authentic greek recipes like lamb shank in orzo pasta are gone. Now there's Italian food and gyros. I tried the roasted lamb but is was bland and without much flavor. For the high-end price, the food was average. Frankly, Mediterranean grill has much better food now. The ambiance is not great but the food is good. Maybe I'm to blame for not going as much, so the menu was changed as a result. But now I see no reason to go at all. I can get average and above average greek style food closer to me, and for a much lower price.
The food was great - there is even a complimentary make-your-own-hummus! (Skip the menu hummus). The roasted lamb was perfect, the kabobs are great and the veggies are excellent. Service here was excellent, the waiter was attentive and the Greek guy (manager maybe) was fun. Will be back again!
We went for my daughters 14th birthday party and it as an experience. The service wasn't great, the bathrooms were out of order and only one dancer really acknowledged our table (Canada dancer). Another problem I had when they had my 14 yr old on the table to say happy birthday they gave her a shot of something (I didn't realize it until it as over) so I couldn't share the video with friends and family. I hope it was grape juice like she said but I wasn't asked it that was OK. We did have a wonderful time and we will be back .. thank you!
My first impression upon walking in, was that it was dated. We had a 6:00 reservation on a Sunday evening so I did take into account that's why we were the only table in the restaurant for most of our dinner. The server was very uninformed. We asked her what was the cut of beef on the kabobs? Her response was, We have lamb, chicken, and beef. Our response, We understand that, what is the cut of beef? Her response, I have no idea what you are talking about, I will have to go find out. She returned to tell us the cut. The same guest asked her what was the sauce on the Lamb Chop. Her response, You are really working me today, I will have to go find out. Overall- all of the food was such a disappointment. All of the food was mediocre. I wouldn't return here or recommend it. The place felt like a has been. We have too many wonderful restaurants to choose from in our food driven city.
We went in as a couple for dinner on a Friday night and it was filled with bachelorette parties being very loud, dancing on stage, shouting, etc. The music was so loud. We moved to the porch to try and get away from the raucous but it was impossible. It wasn't just one bachelorette party it was several. It must be the place to go for some reason. They throw paper napkins up in the air when the belly dancers dance.
To make it even worse, the belly dancers only paid attention to the crazy partiers and ignored the normal guests.
