About Taverna Italian Kitchen
TAVERNA is nestled in Saskatoon's historic downtown core within walking distance of a number of major hotels in the renowned entertainment district. The building was originally a grocery store dating back to 1907. Taverna still maintains a historical charm and character, serving fantastic rustic Italian dishes since 1969.
This is a limited intervention style of cooking, inspired by family tradition. We don't try and upstage our ingredients with elaborate techniques or clutter them up with fancy sauces. It's just simple respect for intensely flavoured San Marzano tomatoes, fresh garlic, warm basil, thick golden oil of first pressed olives and the conscious effort to bring locally grown, organic, and sustainable ingredients to your table when ever possible.

Taverna Italian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We had a horrible experience. We had a reservation, but we sat for 10 minutes before we even had water, and 10 more before our server even came by. We had been there for over half an hour by the time we had our wine. Then our server argued with us about our order and pushed a bunch of extra food on us that we didn't want, and had to refuse. Our appetizers did not show up until we had been there for 55 minutes, and our main courses came 90 minutes into our visit, which were plain and disappointing. We had to go up to the till on our own to get our bill because our server didn't come back to our table. 2 hours of time for simple pasta, and awful service. We were very unimpressed. The atmosphere is nice though.
Bruschetta was excellent as was the minestrone soup, the Caesar salad was mediocre, slightly wilted and oily. The mains were great! Both from the 3 course dinner selection; steak, risotto and spinach, and shrimp/spaghetti with a tomato based sauce. Sidney provided excellent customer service.
Taverna has a great new look as well as wonderful Italian cuisine. Our table shared the lobster ravioli as well as their scallop appetizer and both were delicious. We were four guests and each of us enjoyed a different entree. The pizza had a lovely crisp, thin crust and it was great to be able to personalize the toppings. The veal dish was cooked perfectly and had lovely flavour. One pasta dish could have used some additional seasoning, but by and large was very good. A lovely dining experience.
The food and atmosphere was great. The pasta was so good! Service was a bit slow. It took forever for someone to come take our order and they never came back til we were almost done our meals. I would've ordered more drinks. I would recommend it for anyone wanting good Italian food.
Décor is great, good spacing between tables, place was busy but you didn't have to shout to be heard. Service was excellent, food was good. Lobster ravioli antipasti was great and a good price, extensive wine and bar menu. I ordered the Fettuccini Alla Marinara, the seafood was cooked marvelously and the garlic, white wine cream sauce was quite tasty however the dish did have a somewhat of a starchiness to it. I mentioned this to our server and I believe she was sincere with her intention to advise the kitchen. Definitely would return to do it again.
We had Luigi serve our group; he suggested our group do a family style meal and made all the recommendations. It was fantastic; there was 15 in our group and I can so no one went hungry. Luigi is a great personality and Taverna should be very happy to have him on staff.
The only complaint I can make for the evening was the state of the women's washroom which was not attended very well as toilet paper, hand soap and paper towel needed filling throughout the night but was not done even after mentioning it to a server.
The food was incredible... The quality that taverna is talked about for. The service was friendly, we got our water /coffee refills regularly, but not extremely knowledgeable about the menu. They mentioned once we commented that they had new staff since closing for renovations. The food took a very long time to get to us, at least an hour after ordering. But once it arrived, we were very satisfied with it. Overall a good experience!
the food was extremely good. the only negative was disorganization at the front desk, with lots of people standing about waiting for tables. we had a booth in the back, so we enjoyed being away from the noisy, high traffic spots in the restaurant. overall we really enjoyed our evening.
We reserved a table through OpenTable. We requested a high chair and when we arrived there wasn't any available. We waited about 10 minutes and we were seated. Another 25 before a high chair came around and we had to ask twice. We were told it was being used and we had to wait until they were done. Wish we would've known about limited accommodations for people with children ahead of time. Our little one was squirmy and doesn't like being held so she was quite loud and we felt uncomfortable throughout most of the visit.
Good was good as usual.....just took a long time to even get our appetizers. By the time our main meal came, we were past hungry. My husband's pasta was over cooked, but with good flavour. Everything else was delicious. We will definitely go again as the food is great, but wouldn't be impressed if we had to wait that long again.
Our server was excellent, very attentive and recognized that we had to wait a long time for our food. She offered us a round of drinks or dessert. It appeared that they may have been overwhelmed with the number of reservations. The food was good but not quite up to the usual standard and it was very hot
