Evening valet available for $6 (on Darlington).
I ordered a cocktail as I immediately had a horrible reaction to it. My fave started itching and my nose started running. I asked for a glass of wine instead not knowing what ingredient was causing the problem. I was charge the 15 for the drink and another 18 for the wine. I think it’s just cheap of the restaurant not to come the Drink
We made reservations for six people at 11:30 am for a weekday lunch. When we arrived we informed the manager (??) that we would only be a party of five. In the back dining room at that early hour there were literally two other tables of two people, the rest of the space was empty. Yet five of us were shoe horned into a space meant for four and the wait staff and other service people struggled around us the entire meal, often bumping into the back of our chairs to get to some other spot. Listen, the food is still delish, the scene is still entertaining, but the service staff (though super polite) was slow and awkward the entire meal. I’ll still come by, because I love this spot. It just seemed an unfortunate off day.
Entrées took an hour to arrive. The entire restaurant was overwhelmed by a “buy out”
When the food finally came, it was hard to enjoy
Made a reservation several days in advance and asked for a specific section in the main dining room. When we got there, they sat us in the bar area due to a private party. The hostess aced surprised that we were not informed ahead of time of the private party. Had out of town guests, and we were disappointed to be in the bar.
Great Food, Great vibe in the atrium
Visited Tavern after reading reviews from a few websites. I tried the Duck Confit and it was delicious. The skin was crispy, the risotto was creamy and hot, and the rum and coke completed my meal. We arrived early, before they started serving, so we took advantage of the happy hour and sat at the bar for a few drinks. The bar tender was friendly and offered great suggestions. This was my first visit to California and if I get to visit again, I'll definitely visit again.
To be honest I was quite disappointed. It might have been the combination of large parties on a Saturday for lunch, but it was very noise and the service was not terribly good. The food was good once we got it and I love the decor, but the noise level made it hard to have a conversation and the price was very high for food that was about a B level not an A level for this foodie.
All in all, it's not a first choice in my book, but I'll give it another go sometime during the week to see if it's better then.
We have been to Tavern many times and have always had great service and food and so Tavern is a go-to of ours for family events and special occasions. However this past weekend there seemed to be a real problem with the kitchen, we waited large periods between ordering and receiving our food, most of the food came out but some people were left waiting for their mains. A children's pasta was sent out so full of the cooking liquid that it more resembled soup with pasta than a pasta dish, the staff were very gracious and remade it very quickly, however it never should have been sent out like that in the first place. At the end of our meal a busboy tried to clear away half full drinks while leaving empty dishes and we were left waiting trying to pay our cheque.
All in all, I still love Tavern and will go back, but I hope that the kitchen and staff issues are fixed before we do.
The place was half empty and they put a group directly to each side of us which was annoying and loud. Otherwise it was great.
Disappointed in the service. Short ribs were dry.
Really really horrible service. So rude from check in to the waiter.
Thanksgiving dinner was excellent at Tavern. We were seated right on time and the service and the food were great. Very enjoyable way to spend an out-of-town thanksgiving
Tavern you still make me swoon. No better way to fete the holidays than with you!
My family and I were visiting the area and had our Thanksgiving meal at Tavern. The food and ambiance were both wonderful and it made for a special holiday away from home.
I come to LA once a year, and I try to eat at this restaurant every time. Creative, thoughtful menu and a comprehensive wine list. I am never disappointed.
Kitchen was overwhelmed with large party/special event. Waited an hour for food. Staff was professional and comped the entrees.
We were almost the only people in the restaurant as we were dining early. After waiting 10-15 minutes for someone to show up, my husband got up and got someone to help us. Definitely got off to a bad start. Food is always a little salty here, and this is from someone who loves salt. The bucatini with seafood was lackluster if not downright terrible with tired overcooked seafood. The grilled quail was exceptional and my sister really liked her Swordfish skewers. An uneven evening, not what I would expect from a Goin restaurant. Too many other restaurants that are consistent with creative food. I won't be back
While the service staff was affable they are debilitated by a very slow kitchen. Too bad because the food is good but felt like an hour to get the food out. Pretty loud. I have gone there often but this trip was pretty disappointing.
The Atrium is lovely and good for conversation, the bar room is loud and sceny.
Tavern is always a good choice. Didn't love the new fall menu. Hard pressed to find something I wanted to eat for a main course. The persimmon salad was very good. The roasted squash was not great.
The atrium is a very beautiful setting, but the food was a little off on this visit and the service was especially subpar. Perhaps because there was a large party going on, but we were neglected even before that group had arrived
Great ambience. Terrific service. Limited and offbeat menu. Certainly no complaints about the food but selection was not what I expected. Check out the menu before you go.
Thank you for the dessert when we came in to celebrate a birthday! And as always, the food was delicious and the people lovely.
Service was excellent. Almond latte was probably one of the best I’ve ever had- and I am extremely fussy. But the tempura fish tacos were disappointing. One piece of fish in each. The cabbage made the overly thick reading soft. Skimpy in the guacamole. Overall pretty mediocre. My companions turkey burger was fine. I would go back and try something else.
Very disappointing. Have tried this place at least four to five times. So attractive. The Food is always disappointing and this is a Susan Goin Restaurant. The difference in food bereeen this and Lucques is Igbo and day. What’s with that larder Cobb beet salad. Ate half and gave up. The waiter seemed bothered we were even there. The busboy, god love him, didn’t know what to do...poor training. Will not go back.
Always reliable and tasty. The atrium is a lovely, relaxed space that anyone can enjoy. The bar can be a scene after work.
The new menu is very limited! I struggled to find something I was excited to eat.
I'd had one instance of poor service in the past over many visits, and I returned because I thought that was a one-off and it was. This time the service was great and the food was excellent. This is a great ambience for Sunday brunch and lunch any day. I haven't been for dinner.
I've been there many times, so obviously I like it!
Tavern is a classic Brentwood establishment and it never fails to impress- great food and great service.
Very friendly and comfortable place! Excellent service and delicious food!
Very good food and excellent service. Tavern was recommended by a friend for brunch and we had a wonderful time.
Love the new Fall menu. Nice variety and delicious fiod
Great food. Relaxed efficient service. Friendly staff. A wonderful experience.
I live in CANADA.
U HAVE THE WRONG EMAIL IF
I think it is horrible that The Tavern charges over a 3% tax on our bill for the medical
insurance for their employees. Why would we need to pay for that? That should be on the owner. Not ok.
It makes me not want to recommend your restaurant. I enjoy everything else about it but I find that completely wrong.
Grilled cheese night heaven. I had the one w ham and apples yum. My friend loved the mozzarella and asked to hold the Asiago. My husband had the gruyere version and loved that. Batting a thousand.
Accompanied by Sancerre. Fantastic for the mouth and spirit and willing to forego some gut discomfort Saturday.
It is always a pleasure to return to the "Tavern" my neighborhood hangout!
Initially we were seated right at the kitchen entance eventhough we had a reservations at least a week in advance and the resturant was about 10% occupied at the time. I requested a move and they accomodated us. That corner should be the last two top seated in the atrium on any occassion. So noisey and bodies in and out non-stop.
Ambiance, food and overall vibe is great which is why i always come back.
Service needs much improvement, if it was better this whole experience would go up to outstanding.
