About Tavern

Tavern is the third restaurant from the chef and sommelier team of Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, who also own Lucques restaurant and AOC winebar. This is their West Los Angeles outpost, which serves as a local gathering spot for the Brentwood crowd. Chicly designed by Jeffrey Alan Marks, Tavern encompasses three separate, yet connected spaces: a glass roofed atrium dining room, a large blue walled bar and a café space called the Larder that features casual dining, bakery, retail and prepared foods to go. The restaurant serves Suzanne Goin’s signature California/Mediterranean cuisine with just a touch of a classic American influence.

Absolutely one of the BEST meals I have had in a long time. 4th time at Tavern, I had the Hmager Steak- AMAZING! My girlfriend has the Shortrib- LOTS of flavors and simply delicious ! Snickers bar A MUST AS ALWAYS. Tavern is one of my favorites here in LA and ALWAYS consistent !

A little noisy and crowded upon arrival at 1:30 pm, However, it cleared out shortly after that and was very pleasant. Excellent service.

While the food was great, the restaurant (and therefore OpenTable) neglected to inform us of the prix-fixe menu. This was surprising and unfortunate, since my girlfriend has dietary restrictions which couldn't be accompanied on that menu. As usual, the food was great and the service was very good.

Food is beautifully prepared and presented. The breakfast/brunch items were excellent but I had an entree salad and it was the size of a diner side salad. I went home after and ate. The server was consistently unavailable and the restaurant was a bit too loud. I have had wonderful dinners there so I will give it another try to see if this was just an off day. I would still recommend the restaurant but I have some serious reservations.

The new menu has interesting items but the preparation is not up to the level of the previous menu. Fall vegetables were woody, tough, and inedible. Salmon was a piece of fish on a sea of salad greens. $32 was the price for a small bowl of pasta. Prices have gone up but the culinary aspect has gone in reverse somewhat. Not what we expected after years of going here. Once a favorite, unfortunately we probably will not return.

Hadn't been to the Tavern in quite some time. We were happy to be back! Food was really delicious...the room is beautiful....service was great. It's not an inexpensive meal, though....Everything was very good but we did find the evening quite expensive.

I have been disappointed in the service so many times at the Tavern. One has to ask for everything..butter, ketchup, salt...more coffee. Really frustrating when you are in conversation.

We met with new friends and were able to have good conversations as we enjoyed the delicious brunch. We all really enjoyed the dishes we ordered and refills of coffee, tea etc. were very prompt.
Our young waitress was very obliging and always available for requests. This all made for a delightful outing. We enjoyed the range of ages from young, well behaved children to senior citizens with most of the diners in-between.
We always enjoy going to "Tavern" and the available parking facility is a real plus !

Food and service was great. I had to sit with sun shining directly into my eyes, wearing sunglasses, in the atrium. It’s a lovely room but needs better shading or something for bright sunny days.

Always a wonderful experience from start to finish. The quality of ingredients, creativity in menu planning, pride taken in the execution of each dish...Tavern is a local “special occasion” staple!

We received a gift card for Tavern for our anniversary. We enjoyed the food, the waitstaff was attentive but not annoying. I would love to return for brunch. The menu was seasonal and both my husband and I found things that sounded interesting. I ordered the scallops and know that you typically receive a few sea scallops for a meal. I was surprised that I received 2 scallops for $37, which is pricey. The dish was good but did not warrant the price tag. My husband had the short rib and felt it was a good value for the portion and he enjoyed it. We also ordered olives, haricot verts and fingerling potatoes. Lots of food and we were too full for dessert. Overall a pleasant dining experience and we would recommend to others.

Tavern's reputation exceeds its delivery Food we had was mixed. Very good pastrami sandwich, squash soup and salmon toast but very mediocre swordfish and grilled cheese sandwich. Bottled drinks were pricey and so- so. Service was not polished or all that helpful. The clientele were attractive and energetic but I am not racing back .

I appreciate DineLA as a way to try out Tavern for the first time. The salmon was wild, which is good for the environment and us, but was too oily and salty. The oil and salt spilled onto the salad the fish sat upon. Not a tasty dressing. The waitress was not very experienced. It seemed they did not have enough menus. We were given one to share for DineLA. We were sat right next to two loud businessman. This made it hard to carry on our own conversation. The restaurant was not even half full mid day, mid week. I had always heard the tavern was a good restaurant to try but I was disappointed.

Poor service and the ahi tuna Thai salad was really bad. There was only 4 pieces of tuna. Very small chunks of what looked like fat?Very unappealing. My sister received a piece of salmon that she returned because it smelled so fishy.

I usually love the food served at the bar but unfortunately the bar tenders are not too attentive. It’s such a beautiful place. I wish it was run better.

Ps. The hostesses are fantastic and very helpful!

I hope this helps you guys....

Excellent dinner in Brentwood.

This is an amazing non-scene restaurant.

Service was perfect. Our server, Gail, was warm, efficient and offered great suggestions for wine and food. Baby gem salad with goddess dressing, bacon wrapped dates, scallops and devils chicken were all outstanding. Save room for dessert.

Tavern is beautiful. I love the design and decor! The service was very good. The sad fact is that the food is boring and bland. I'd happily say anything else if I could but it's true that while you go to a restaurant for a number of reasons first and foremost it's for a meal. My friend was celebrating her birthday and we had the best time, though I won't be going back.

Based on location and ambiance I keep trying to make this restaurant work. After a ridiculously awful (overpriced, inedible food that was ultimately credited) I decided to give restaurant one more chance for lunch. Doesn't sound to complicated. I ordered a chopped chicken salad. I can honestly say, and I go out at least 4-5 times a week minimum, that I can't remember a skimpier more tasteless salad. I don't mind the high end prices, if there is value, but to leave unsatisfied is not right. I must say my colleague ordered the sampler option which was somewhat more satisfying. I look forward to when the property changes hand. Since the Cheesecake Factory, Daily Grill and Hamlet left Brentwood is lacking in anything , but Italian and very casual restaurants.
