I had been there for lunch before and I thought it was good.
Dinner was a complete letdown.
Narrow selection of food, NO draft beer and service that left much to be desired.
I've never had a poor experience like this before. When we first sat down, we waited almost 20 minutes for anyone to come over and only because we had to ask the hostess twice. The service was split between 3 people taking our order, we waited forever for our drinks and by the time the food came, it was delivered by service staff who essentially dumped it on the table and took off without even telling us what it was. One guy we had to practically beg to come back, and he still left.... We left very unhappy. Doubt I'll go back.
I booked this for a post graduation lunch and was surprised when they said it was only small plates. Unsure if it was stated on the website but if it was, it was poorly advertised. Overpriced small plates, average food. I'd recommend trying a different place if you can.
The meal was delicious, but even for tapas, the portions did not match the prices at all. Good cocktails.
Great spot for a casual business dinner or night out with friends -- vibrant scene and delicious food. The shared plates are fabulous and add a dynamic interface to engage and enjoy.
Great fish tacos! All good came out very fast and tasted great.
Service was excellent as was the food. They serve small plates (tapas) so you can try a variety of dishes. Great cocktails. Only complaints: beer list is weak and the background music is too loud in a place where the noise carries. Makes it hard to talk during dinner. Other than that would recommend it as a great place to go.
Great food, amazing creative small plates, and super fun atmosphere. The drinks are always delicious and reasonable prices all around. It's definitely a young vibe, great music and open kitchen. The chickpea bites are a must-have!

I went here on a recommendation of a friend, a bit uncertain as to what I could expect! The food was AMAZING! Every offering was unique and every bite was like a total explosion of flavor in my mouth! my boyfriend and I were amazed with everything we tried! we loved it all :)
In addition to the food, our service was delayed but the manager and three other services came over to offer food and drinks and that more than anything made up for the delay by our waitress! it was above and beyond on customer service and i will say I was impressed :)
The architecture and decoration of this place created a great enviroment for a business lunch. They have more options for drinks than for food but we were surprised, the food was delicious with good portions! Great service as well from The waitress who received us. If you want to have a lunch/dinner with friends or a chill business brunch I will recommend this place. Environment + food + price!

Love ordering all the small plates and sharing. I feel like I don't miss out because there's always too much I want to eat here! Sharing means I get to try more. Just really high quality and great energy. The music is always epic also.
We went to Tavern Road for the first time on Friday night. Since we had never been before, we had no idea that the menu consists primarily of tapas, small plates. When we were looking at the menu, we noticed that the majority of items contained some sort of nut item. This was a problem for us, since both my husband and daughter have nut allergies. I was amazed at the number of items that contained nuts on the menu. I will say that our server was excellent and worked with us to pick items that either didn't contain nuts or that the nuts could be omitted from. The food that we did get was excellent, though, the portions were pretty small, even for small plates. I would definitely go back, though. I wouldn't recommend it if you have kids or picky eaters, though.

Great first trip to Tavern Road!! Really enjoyed the small plates - interesting combinations executed nicely. We had a great booth that was perfect for our group of 6 people. Fast service and they brought out a birthday shot for my friend :)
A perfect place for dinner with friends. The small (tapas-like) plates are ideal for sharing. The relaxed atmosphere and unhurried service combine to enhance a relaxing dinner over conversation. Our server was spot on with her recommendations regarding the cocktails and are menu selections. We were there on a Monday night and the scene was busy but not overly loud or disturbing. I would highly recommend Tavern Road for group dining or for anyone on a date. The wait staff is friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
If you are a foodie and appreciate a cool and relaxed place to have good drinks, you will enjoy Tavern Road. This place makes you feel you belong, that is why i keep going back. So meet your friends there and feel like it has been your bar or your favorite restaurant for ever... I am sure once you are there the first tme, it will be. It is also unique because it stays open late and welcomes you no matter how late you arrive to eat and drink!
The food is good, but, this is a restaurant with tapas-like small plates that are much smaller than average. it is a nice atmosphere but not worth a visit.

Great spot in the Fort Point area of Boston. Fun cocktails and small plates make it a fantastic option for any size party. Try to sample as much of the menu as you can, but definitely be sure to order the lamb meatballs, burger and either ( or both of the fritters). Save room for the warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert.. They're amazing.
Great for a tasty bite in the neighborhood. Noise levels let you have a conversation, but not intimate.
$1 oysters on Mondays is a steal!

What could have been an ordinary birthday celebration for a pal was kicked up a notch - or seven! - when we ate at Tavern Road, that's for sure. Our waitress was so sweet, and very helpful when it came to selecting enough small plates for our group to share. THEN, the staff serenaded our friend with a fantastically unique 'happy birthday' call out... we (along with most of the restaurant) were left laughing hysterically.
Great spot, cool vibes, excellent sense of humor, not pretentious - all quite refreshing for the Seaport area! - and the food was unreal. This spot really left me feeling warm and fuzzy. Thanks, all!

Great spot. Definitely not quite, but not too loud. Hip(ster) scene. The waitress comped us a plate of Eggplant Goat Cheese Fritters and was attentive and helpful with our menu selection. My only complaint was the order that the food came out in. I understand they are tapas and they come out in waves (as they should), but our perogies, which were AMAZING, came out very early in our meal and our sausage stuffed oysters came out last. For my taste, I'd rather see the sweet perogies later in the meal and the more savory oysters earlier. But a small complaint as all the food was fantastic.
I heard a lot about Tavern Road and decided to give it a try. Reservations were for 7 PM but arrived earlier around 6:15 and had a drink at the bar. Bar was very crowded with the after work crowd and bar tenders were very slow and not very friendly. Give the bar a 5 out of 10 stars. We were seated for our 7 PM dinner reservation and things definitely improved. Loved our waitress, who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Food was absolutely beautifully prepared. Great place to go if you like small plates, but the food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend a visit. I couldn't pick out my favorite dish, as they were all outstanding.
Interesting vibe, a bit noisy, not a place to go if you want a quiet intimate dinner, but if you want some amazing food it is definitely worth a visit!

I have been to Tavern Road five times. The menu changes features small dishes meant for sharing (2 or 3 per person). Each time I've returned the menu has changed. In some cases that would be a problem but here chef and the staff love food and it shows.
On a business trip from out-of-town, we were recommended here because Chef Louis is so particular, he goes to the farmer's market himself to pick up the freshest, best produce for his dishes.
You can tell.
Everything was artfully crafted, and frequently weird flavors were paired that seemed an odd match, but worked out beautifully (example - the crab conserva comes with some chunks of canteloupe on the side, and you're missing out if you don't eat them together).
The server gave us a heads-up that the dishes are small plates, and recommended about 3 per person, which was roughly accurate. Splitting the plates multiple ways made for a fun time, with only being guaranteed one or two bites of a dish for the first order, but you can always order more of the group's favorites.
Also, after we mentioned that we'd heard about the restaurant mainly for the chef, and were there late enough that much of the restaurant had closed out, he was kind enough to stop by the table and chat briefly. Hearing the forethought and insight that he's put into his menu was a treat.
I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in Boston.
The food was great (small tasty plates) cauliflower was just awesome but overall a good mix of high quality recipes.
The ambiance is good, most guests were couples on a date ; booths are nicer than the cafeteria style table area.
We also had drinks at the bar where the service was extremely odd. One guy seemed to run the show and was overbearing with everyone from his coworkers to clients which was a turnoff for everyone.
Limited menu, but great quality. I can't understand calling a place a Tavern if there is no draft beer...but we really enjoyed what we ate!
Food was quite good, but if I had wanted tapas I would have gone to a Spanish restaurant. The place is very loud maybe because there is little in the way of sound absorbing material.
We came as group of 8.ordered our drinks which took as 45 min to get them after order. Portion of appetizers very small.
I wanted to try a new restaurant after a day in Boston, some place not too fancy, but a step or two up from eating at Quincy Market. Tavern Road is a great find! I love the atmosphere and the food was very good. However, being a fussy eater, I wouldn't touch about half the things on the menu (my problem, not theirs!). What we did eat was delicious - particularly the chick pea bites and the lamb tostadas. For myself, I'm not sure I'd rush back, but I have some friends who would love it, and I will definitely take them there.
The ambiance was fine for our party of 4 plus a small baby in stroller. The place is open, split into dining and bar areas with interesting murals on the wall and good music, mostly reflecting 1980's alternative hits. The tables were a bit tightly packed; we were fine getting around, but challenging for the waitstaff. The food was excellent. Small plates and sharing is the way to go--we ordered a potpourri and everything except one dish (eggplant fritters) were unique and garnered praise. Special callouts to the chickpea frites, lamb meatballs, and summer bean salad with hummus. But, the highlight of the night was the ceviche dish--everyone in our party contemplated seizing the plate and slurping down the sauce. In fact, once the fish was gone, we asked for more bread for dipping, which points out our one criticism--service. For the first hour of our meal, waitstaff were attentive, filling water glasses, checking on us, etc. However, when we were ready for a second round or wanted to ask for bread to dip into the aforementioned delicious sauce, we had to ask repeatedly, with a revolving door of servers seemingly haven taken over. Same for dessert--we were ready to order after dinner drinks and dessert, but had a near endless wait before any waitstaff bothered to ask if we were interested. The pomegranate custard was good, but nothing outstanding. Cappucino's and coffee similarly standard fare. All in all, an excellent dining experience and fun, exciting atmosphere. However, improvement in the service would put this place to the top of my list for dining in the Fort Channel Point area.
Loved the 80s music playing and energetic vibrancy of this restaurant. That said, I know better to come for a romantic night on a Thursday night! Luckily, I was able to adapt.
Decor was a mix of casual and elegant. I think I would recommend different chairs and tables. They are sturdy but do not seem appropriate to the casual elegance of the ceilings and rest of décor.
We really liked the drink menu and think that is the strength of this gastropub. We felt open to try different things than we normally would have, since we were celebrating my birthday. Kudos to the wine list as well the espresso martini, mango lassi.
The ceviche plate, duck empanadas and fried cauliflower were gorgeous. If I may give feedback on the rest of the dishes we had, I would be mindful of not adding as much oil and salt in the Cioppino and I would have preferred the oysters to have not been breaded. I strongly believe adorning them with a bit of lemon juice, or a light sauce would let their flavor shine all the more.
But despite these small details, we are happy that there are more places to eat in, in Fort Point!

The small bites menu works very well for this chef as his dishes are big on flavor - a small portion works well. The food is well prepared with good attention to detail. Service is good and the dining area is attractive.
Our group of 4 ordered the small plates in groups of 3 throughout our visit. Food was delivered in a timely fashion and our server was experienced enough to take our orders at appropriate time intervals. Each dish was more delicious than the previous one we sampled. I would recommend the following: eggplant fritters, fried cauliflower, cioppino, and the porchetta flatbread (a huge portion.) One member of our group requested a particular whiskey, which was unavailable. I was impressed when our server was able to offer a substitute whiskey equally as good.
If you want to be able to converse comfortably, request a booth as Tavern Road is HIGHLY "energetic!"
Long on our Radar after Chef Lou's Reel Chef stint featuring Animal House, we were thrilled to bring friends from CA to this popular eatery. The lively atmosphere, TVs over the bar and human energy, cued us in for a great night ahead. Service was spectacular...the small plates, perfect for sharing came out promptly, hot, hot, hot and with enthusiasm. We enjoyed plates from each of the three menu categories. Under the watchful and encouraging eye of our waitress, we sampled among other things, sweet potato samosas, chickpea fritters enhanced by a delectable tomato jam, fried eggplant and goat cheese , sea bream ceviche, oysters, lamb tostadas, and my favorite, Peruvian chicken thighs! The meal concluded with lighter than light lemon cream zeppolis! As my friend Scott so accurately stated, " Tavern Road is rockin'!"
