Tavern on the Square
You'll see seasonal offerings, fresh fish and local produce on the menus here, ranging from crab cake benedicts to a dinner entrée of pan-seared Maple Leaf duck breast.
Dining options pair well with our handcrafted coffee, ales, cider, wine and spirits-offering upscale classics and modern inventions.
Fresh, inventive offerings make this Tavern an inviting space any time of day or night.
It was fine for overall ambiance. There for breakfast - nothing extraordinary about menu or food. Biggest downer was the wait for food. Over an hour from ordering to serving - extremely slow.
We enjoyed the ambiance at Tavern on the Green, but it took way too long to get our drinks from the bar and food from the kitchen. We have been there two other times and had the same issue then. Management really needs to figure out how to be more efficient in the bar and kitchen.
It would be worth the experience to visit, as this is such a special and unique restaurant with a warm and "hip" vibe. Unfortunately 4 of the 5 meals ordered not as good as we were hoping for. Ambience great!
Food could could be better.
Well done by the staff, we were seated late, we were offered free apps as a comp will done! Drink service while we were waiting AWESOME!! once seated everything was great! Food and service were impeccable!!
You can’t go wrong at any McMenamin’s and Tavern on the Square does not disappoint! Outstanding food and service and we will definitely go back again!
I have had several wonderful breakfasts at Tavern on the Square, and a couple of mediocre dinners, so I will recommend for breakfast. I've also had several great lunches at the theater which I think are prepared by T on the S, so I will recommend that as well. Dinner, not so much.
Our server was very personable and mostly did a great job.
My son ordered the creole gumbo, which stated on the menu that it had a trio of vegetables served with it. It did not - no veggies. My husband enjoyed his ravioli with short ribs. I ordered the mushroom and goat cheese pizza, which was ok, but was overwhelmed by the crispy onions on top. My side Caesar salad has so little dressing on it that we were not sure if thee was any at all. Our server brought me some in a cup, and that helped, but much of the romaine was the tough outer leaves.
Excellent meal, service and ambience. One of us wanted to order the gumbo, but concerned on the level of the heat level and the server brought a little taste. It was perfect! Loved my Boozy Hot Chocolate drink, too. A nice touch to a great meal. We will be back.
Our 2nd time & we enjoyed it as much as the first!
Great atmosphere, wonderful food and great service. Beautiful place. Go!
Our waiter took our sarcasm and joking fairly well. The food was good but very overpriced for what you get.
Gumbo - gumbo DOES NOT have tomatoes in it...
Not sure if you all were aware but a real traditional gumbo does NOT have tomatoes 😊
Plenty of parking, takes reservations, really nice staff and good food. We had pretty standard breakfast items French toast and eggs Benedict and they were great. Very Family friendly we really like that.
Fun atmosphere & very nice lunch. Service was excellent & friendly. We had all been here before & will surely be back again.
Although my sisters order was in error the staff was so gracious they still get 5 stars.. the food was very good, and at a value. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. And we will be back!
McMenamins schoolhouse is always a fantastic place to visit, with several options for dining and hanging out. The Tavern on the Square is the main restaurant, and offers a lovely, almost nostalgic, setting for a fantastic meal. Our server was prompt, warm, and welcoming. At no point during the meal were we left wanting something. The only downside to our meal was that the food seemed to have a lot of salt and the appetizers were incredibly large portions. However, this will probably not stop us from returning in the future to Tavern on the Square.
Great food and atmosphere. We had our Valentine's dinner there. Can't recommend it more highly.
After order was taken, waitress brought silverware for our dishes -- large spoon for a soup style seafood dish -- told her no - pork porterhouse had been ordered and a ravioli dish -- not the seafood -- she agreed she had made a mistake and would correct it -- low and behold what came to our table but the ravioli and the seafood gumbo dish! Had to wait another 15 mins at least for them to bring what had originally been ordered. Their saving grace was that we were charged only for our drinks, starter and the ravioli.
A night of great service and quality food and drink. They had the big game showing in a small room off the main area with the sound down, which worked for those of us who didn't want to watch. Thank you!
The entire Anderson School facility is terrific; all the bars and dining areas are typical McMenamins kitschy, stylish, and homey.
The service was laughably poor and the food was below average...costs were pretty high as well.
We will go back to Anderson, as well as other McMennamins properties, but this was a really sloppy and poor performance
Service wasn't the best I've ever had, water glasses were empty more than once and our plates sat on the table for a while after we were finished. The food was OK, I don't think it justifies the price point at all, but it was OK. Some things are better than others. The decor is great and the grounds of the Anderson School are really nice - definitely recommend going, but maybe just for drinks and skip the overpriced food.
Fun place to take a group of friends. Food was good. Burger was a bit bland. Ravioli was amazing.
Great staff and great food!
When we arrived for our Friday night reservation we were greeted with smiles and seated immediately. The dining room is a psychedelic delight. Lots of cool stuff to look at. Service was spot on. Professional and friendly without feeling canned or rushed. Food was delicious. I had a steak, she had ravioli. We shared carrot cake for dessert. Drinks complimented the food perfectly. I went with Hammerhead and a whiskey flight. She enjoyed lattes.
We had a great time and look forward to visiting again soon.
Our server was excellent. The staff supported each other in timely immediate needs. The chef did a great job. It was not noisy. Three adults and one three year old could enjoy a conversation. Kids menu good. This was my third time to The Tavern. I would continue to go back.
This was my 2nd time at The Tavern At The Square and it was awesome.
I read many reviews and I must admit, some love it and others do not. I will tell you about my personal experience. We made reservations for four. Someone had given our table away, however they found us another one and we were quickly seated.
Our server was fun, engaging, and made recommendations on different rums for a family member. She was attentive and we never went without anything, or waiting a long time in between courses
The table of four we had three different burgers, and one flat iron steak. Every person raved at the table on their meal. We all ate everything and even had dessert and a cappuccino after.
A group of four people, dinner, two drinks each, two coffees and three desserts was a little over $200.00. It was delicious and reasonable for the food, atmosphere, and service.
My husband and I took our girls for lunch and a movie on a Saturday. What a fantastic spot! Very unique and the service was great!
Breakfast was amazing. Had the beignets and butternut squash bowl! Yum. And the Bloody Mary was amazing!
Let's start with possitives! Our server was great....attentive, quick, polite, responsive and kind! Atmosphere was nice as well! Good music and nice suroundings.
My drink was delicious. Fresh juiced fruit is what I like and that's what I got!! Price on a beautiful drink was completely reasonable!
Okay...negatives: Dinner was ok. And ok was all it was. It wasn't bad but it didn't wow us. For price, we hoped for a little more. Not more quantity....there was plenty on the plate. But the food was JUST "ok".
Breakfast, however was bad! Not even ok. Just bad 👎. Cold food, bacon was flaccid and inedible, bread looked so good and homemade....and was terrible. My poached eggs were basically hard boiled, and hollandaise sauce was just wrong. Neither of us could get that food down....it really was that bad.
And I hate to say it, but worse than the food was the beer. 1 IPA on tap and it was ok-ish. Worse than ok. We ended up walking around the town to get a good beer. That was the real disappointment. The grounds at mcmenamins were so so awesome and we had wanted to just stay there exploring all that was offered....but in the end you have to have good food and good beer to get people to stay.
It was a disappointment again to dine at Tavern on the Square. The quality of the kitchen and the service have not improved. My wife ordered tea with her breakfast and they brought it to us seeping in... cold water. The service tray for my coffee had ketchup stains on it and cream spilled inside the sugar cup. These are silly mistakes that give an impression to the customer that the service staff is oblivious.
I ordered the Butternut Squash Hash with poached eggs from the menu and the rest of us ordered the breakfast buffet. My dish was tasty, which was a pleasant surprise, but I noticed they ran out of baby kale and substituted with arugula. The buffet was average - bacon overcooked, french toast sticks were dry, but the fruit salad and mini muffins were decent. A few of the buffet dishes were dirty.
Overall, the low quality of the service/kitchen is something the managers need to address with better training of the staff and/or better retention of good employees.
Great food, fantastic service, all in all a perfect choice for our New Year’s Eve dinner!
New Years Eve dinner with friends- food was great- restaurant was busy- our server was great but swamped. Seating for 6 is not the best. Round table (good) but in a direct walkway- very busy. This restaurant has mainly booths for 4 and tables for 2. Not well set up for larger groups. That said- we had a fabulous dinner and would definitely book here again!!
prices way overboard. atmosphere average. food barely acceptable.
We decided to have Christmas dinner here. I wish I remembered our waiter's name because he was great! My husband ordered the sirloin and I the prime rib. Drinks were tasty and fresh. We've eaten here before, but it seems they've stepped-up the game - no surprise as we went to this particular restaurant when Anderson School first opened.
Loved the festive mood and felt right at home.
I had a delicious prime rib dinner and my date had a fantastic hamburger. The service was superb. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. We will definitely return!
Nice Xmas lunch. My scramble was relatively ordinary, and the sausage in it was particularly underwhelming, but my partner's gingerbread pancakes were particularly delicious. Nice serving sizes too, for the most part, though my eggs again seemed bit meager: like too much space is being given to nonsense like toast and potatoes, vs. adding another egg and giving a substantial, special-feeling amount of scramble. We'll be back: good place. I wouldn't order a scramble again though, most likely.
The atmosphere is fun and our server Amanda couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. The food was just ok but we had been told that about the restaurant in advance. A little disappointing but the drinks were good!
Really enjoyed Tavern on the Square. During a busy evening, the service was nicely paced, food was very good and service was friendly. The clams and salmon were perfectly cooked. Very nice restaurant overall.
Butternut squash hash for weekend breakfast was amazing. Sweet potatoes were caramelized below and provided a light crunch. This was a meal designed for 2–my husband had to help, but with his full-sized eggs Benedict, he could only indulge in a few forkfuls. Expensive, but amazing.
Terrific all the way around. We went to the movie and that was great too
I LOVE Tavern on the Square! I've had lunch a few times in the summer in the garden area. It was lovely to eat inside! The atmosphere is so pretty. Our server, Dani, was so sweet and friendly. I look forward to going back soon. Thank You!
