Beautiful location. Food is ok. Menu on the fancier side yet not completely delivered. Servers take a while in bringing the food and beverages to the table. Might be understaffed.
Server was very slow and made mistakes. On the otherhand she rushed us through our meal with cocktails only half finished when the entre came. This was after our party requested her to not put the order in for 10/15 minutes.
5 star prices, 3 star experience!
A lovely meal with my husband for his birthday! Great food, perfect service!
Celebrated my best friend’s birthday, our waiter was Maitland, he was good. Not hovering but there when needed. Food was good atmosphere was awesome.
Tavern on the Green has always been overpriced, but it used to be nicer. The deal was, you pay too much for mediocre food, but you get to enjoy eating outdoors in Central Park. This deal becomes far worse, however, when the hostess refuses to give you a table outside for no good reason, and you have to eat the mediocre food indoors on a beautiful day. There were about 10 free tables available outside when we arrived, and they remained free throughout our meal; but the hostess coldly insisted that none were available. Tavern has obviously entered late-stage restaurant decadence: pretentious and unfriendly staff, overpriced food, overall bad value. Will not return, and would not recommend to a friend. Hire a nicer hostess.
Hot coffee, brought cold milk without spoon to steer. When asked for a spoon he brought a soup's spoon.. Food was cold. Brought desert without utensils. Next table Sat 10 min after us and got served 10' before us. Some tables had umbrellas ours was under the hot sun...
This was my first time at Tavern on the Green and it was amazing!! This will for sure be a staple every time I visit NYC. Our waitress was so attentive and made us feel so welcome. I will 100% recommend this place to everyone!!
I would have given it 5 stars.... except... We were in NYC for a very special occasion. We were meeting old friends from California that we hadn't seen in 8 years. We were going to wrap up our mini vacation together with a dinner at the T.O.G.
I was very careful in making sure to get our reservation in through Open Table on the first day that was allowable. This was a big deal and I didn't want to miss it. I had even written in the comments section about why we were coming to their restaurant.
Our reservation was for weeks in the future, so I knew we were in !
Then came the phone call from the restaurant. They informed me that a large group had reserved the entire restaurant for that night and that our reservation had to be "moved"... I was as much dumbfounded and I was disappointed. Our perfect last dinner had been bought out by a corporation !
When we arrived at the restaurant for "lunch" that day, they brought us a glass of champagne as a consolation. A fairly poor attempt to make up for what had happened from such an upscale and well-respected establishment. It put a damper on our last day, but our dinner that night at another restaurant brought the mood back up before we had to say goodbye.
We loved everything except the music… which didn’t feel right for a place so elegant!
Lunched outdoors. Such a lovely setting and very quiet. So much better than sitting on a noisy street somewhere. Service was outstanding. Food is definitely overpriced but it was good and you are paying for the setting. Plus we spent over two hours there and we’re never rushed.
We visited for my mom’s birthday. Service was great.
Tavern on the Green has beautiful outdoor seating underneath a canopy of lights--just breathtaking for a romantic evening dinner. The hostesses/waitstaff were extremely friendly and accomodating, too. I am grateful for such a memorable experience!
Great ambience and food was overall really delicious. There however was mold on the bottom of the bread which made us feel uneasy. We let them know and sent the bread back.
Wonderful classic nyc Central Park restaurant great service
We had reservations for Tavern on the Green for a late lunch. We showed up 45 minutes early and got in without issue. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was fantastic. The food was good, but not overly impressive.
Rude hostess but alleviated by other staff
I haven't been to Tavern on the Green in ages so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was very pleased with the initial greeting from the hostesses to our server, Jamie (who has a warm, friendly personality), to the beautiful outdoor seating area and our delicious meal. My friend and I enjoyed several items on the menu including the crab cake, the roasted figs with arugula and air dried beef, the octopus/chorizo salad and the wild mushrooms. My only regret is that I waited so long to return to the landmark restaurant; but I will be back before the cold weather sets in. By the way, the DJ was very good, playing a variety of music without being a distraction or impairing our ability to have a conversation.
Tavern on the Green was an ideal location for an outdoor dinner with guests from out of town - outdoor dining free of traffic noise. Service was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. The food was excellent from the tomato soup appetizer to entrees which included salmon, roast chicken and braised beef and ending with desserts of creme brulee and a blueberry tart.
We very much enjoyed our meal! Wish there was a no playing cellphone videos on speaker though. The people next to us were watching something and it was really loud. Food and service were great!
Best place in town
I love this place - really a well maintained establishment
I haven’t been since the reopening snd it was fantastic!
It’s not what it used to be. However, it does deliver.
The staff is very accommodating and professional. They sat us down but made a mistake and asked us to move, which was odd but they were very accommodating in picking out a table we liked. The outdoor patio is an oasis inside a bustling city and the food was very good. The breakfast pizza is great and the biscuits are some of the best out there…. would like for them to be able to sell just a basket of those. It’s not your fathers Tavern but the newer version is every bit as enjoyable, maybe more.
The service was exceptional and the drinks and desserts were great.
Absolutely the best brunch and service in New York😊
This was an incredible experience all around! Patio is beautiful and the jazz band was just perfect. Food, drinks, staff were all A+. One of the highlights of my trip to NYC, we all loved it. Will definitely be back some day!
Mommy and Son NY Trip ☺️❤️
Estuvimos muy contentos, disfrutamos la vista, los platillos estaban muy ricos y bien presentados.
Los meseros muy amables y serviciales.
Nos gustó ver la cocina
Had a lovely brunch here, outdoors. Food and drinks were excellent. Service, once someone showed up, was friendly.
We sat for 10-15 minutes without a server and watched tables that arrived after us being served promptly. When I flagged someone down, he was very friendly and took care of us right away.
It was also awkward when we were seated (with a young child and a very pregnant woman in our party) at a full-sun table when many shady tables were empty. When we asked to be moved to a table about 10 feet away (or ANY table in the shade), the staff, although not impolite, acted like it was an extraordinary request. About 4-5 staff members hemmed and hawed and considered all kinds of options while we stood there waiting. The hostess told us a couple of times that she could not move us. She definitely put protocol and red tape ahead of customer satisfaction in that moment. The staff seemed paralyzed to make a decision until a manger (presumably) stepped in and finally seated us at a table in the shade.
Overall a great experience with perfect food and ambiance. Just more awkward than what you’d expect from an upscale restaurant. We still plan to return.
My husband and I got married on 9/18 and we decided to do brunch at tavern on the green.
Tavern on the Green is an experience!! We loved eating outside at night and the live music was just lovely; it all made for a wonderful time. The food was also enjoyable and the creme brulee was my favorite of the evening!
Couldn’t say 5 for service because the restaurant was swamped. We were told to consider no cocktails due to increíble delay. Our server was excellent but the restaurant definitely was not able to handle the crowd that night.
Food great drinks great ambiance superb just an all around good time
I hated giving only four stars for service as our waitress was excellent, but whoever was working the bar was extremely slow. It took quite a long time to get one glass of wine. The manager did notice and comped our dessert.
The jazz group performing made the evening even more special. We asked for a specific song and they played it. Tavern on the Green is certainly a place to go for a special occasion.
One cannot believe that you are in the middle of Manhattan. The patio, dining outside is a treat. Atmosphere, food and especially the service is outstanding. The band and the singer is such a treat and so is the dancing. One could not ask for a better dining experience anywhere. We were celebrating out anniversary and the staff make it extra special for us. Cannot wait to return again. This is a neighborhood restaurant for us.
We sat in the courtyard. The noise level is low when they don't have live music. Live music puts the noise to moderate but we could still talk and be heard. We are all vegetarian, and had the cauliflower steaks, which are large slices of cauliflower char grilled. They also have a seasonal roast vegetable dish which isn't on the menu so it's worth asking the server if it is available. It comes with a miso sauce. The outdoor setting is magical. The service was perfect. We thought the food was pretty good value for money.
The food was good, but the service wasn’t great and it was extremely noisy. Overall, other evening was a disappointment.
outstanding ambiente, great service, Michael and his coworkers super friendly and helpful
love this plays, great life music
