Tavern In The Village Ratings and Reviews
It was a cold night, but we were welcomed warmly for our first visit. We had a reservation and got seated right on time. The service was outstanding and the wait staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs and requests. The food was very fresh and tasty. The hummus appetizer was plentiful and delicious. We had the crab cake sandwich, beef stroganoff and steak salad. I would recommend any of these. We will be back to try some of the other dishes.
I’ve been to this restaurant many times, mainly because it is convenient to where I live; however, the overall quality level has declined to the point that I will hesitate to return in the future.
The Tavern menu is predictable and rarely changes. Even the “specials” are predictable. Boring, people! The overall noise level can be difficult, as well.
Truly healthy options are limited, and preparation of said options is ill-considered. For example, for dinner I recently ordered my go-to dish, the salmon salad. The greens were not fresh, having been “prepped” (so the waiter told me) early that morning. This means that the chopped greens, which were not of first rate quality to start, were sitting for many hours in the fridge. By the time they arrived at my place, they were wilted, degraded, and tasted as though they’d been soaking up beet juice for hours. The portion of salmon on top did nothing to change the fact that the salad itself was poorly prepared. Needless to say, I sent it back to the kitchen.
IF I go back, I guess from now on I will have to send a special request to the chef to prepare my green salads freshly and from scratch. It seems an inconvenience for a regular customer to have to do this, don’t you think?
We haven't eaten at this restaurant for quite some time. After this dining experience we remember why. First, the chef was unwilling to make a simple accommodation for a relatively simple side dish. Second, the Panko shrimp was a disappointment. This could have been a spectacular entree except that the chef chose to use smaller shrimp - jumbo shrimp would have done the trick. Finally, no manager stopped by the table to inquire about our satisfaction with the meal. I didn't see a manager stop at any other table either. Needless to say we won't be dining at this restaurant again.
Quite loud and a bit difficult to visit without leaning in and over table. Someone with us really liked the filet mignon. My Asian chicken was a bit oily and had too many brussel sprouts rather than nice mix of veggies. The benefit of loud setting is that people nearby cannot hear your conversation.
I went with my parents for a special dinner. Our server was great, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. My mother got the salmon special, and was very happy. My dad mixed it up with the wedge salad, a spicy soup and sliders, and loved it. I enjoyed the beef stroganoff. There is s sweet fireplace and the seating is homey and comfortable.
As always, the food was healthy, beautiful and reasonably priced. Our table was in the middle of the restaurant and not good for conversing with loud groups all around us. Disappointing. Better to ask for a booth along the edge. Service started off really slow and got better which is also unusual for Tavern. Usually they are right on the mark with impeccable timing and sense as to the pace you want to eat. Not one of our best nights out, but this place is still my favorite local restaurant for finer dining.
We've been to both the Tavern in the Village and Tavern Mission Farms and like both quite well! We don't live close to either, but family does so it's a prime dining place for meeting family. Found my new favorite dish there - the bow tie pasta with chicken was excellent! Love the spice you get with the red pepper - light dish but great flavor! Will definitely order again!
nice, quiet, relaxing dinner. our server was very attentive without being overbearing. gave us plenty of time to chill and chat with our wine. sommelier was outstanding in explaining and guiding us through the wine list. we may have found a new favorite bottle of wine... food was delicious and the portions were just right. really, just a nice casual dinner, which is exactly what we were looking for. we look forward to returning soon!
The Tavern in the Village is always a delight to visit and enjoy. I have never been disappointed and this week’s Ladies Luncheon is no exception. . We have ladies of all ages in our little group and it never fails to disappoint. We go all the way from appetizers, soups, combos and full meals. Every item is always served with a smile, the right temperature and always pleasant waiters. Thank you for always being perfection!
